Rangel claims victory over
Espaillat in Democratic primary

New York Post, by Erin Calabrese, Lorena Mongelli*

Rep. Charles Rangel declared victory Tuesday night in his quest for a 23rd term, after outpolling persistent rival Adriano Espaillat in the bitter Harlem Democratic primary. “This is your victory, this is your congressman! Thank you so very much,” Rangel said to raucous supporters at the Taino Towers gymnasium in East Harlem. (Snip) And woe to those who had ditched Charlie. Earlier Tuesday, a confident Rangel said that the political and labor leaders who abandoned him during the race “made one hell of a mistake” — ¬implying that he might not be willing to forgive and forget.

Anger explodes over treatment of Bergdahl’s

For all the yellow ribbons strewn across his hometown in Idaho and the gratitude expressed by his parents in an emotional visit to the White House on Saturday, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl will receive a hero’s welcome when he returns to the United States after nearly five years in Taliban captivity. From military forums across the country, a groundswell of anger is rising over the Obama administration’s silence on perhaps the most controversial question surrounding the deal that freed Bergdahl in exchange for five senior Taliban members: Was he a deserter?

"I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today." -- Wimpy from Popeye "I won´t pull the football away this time, Charlie Brown!" -- Lucy, Charlie Brown Those are long running laugh lines in the comics and readers are supposed to roll their eyes as they hear those words. Maybe Americans just aren´t as smart as they used to be because the Obama Administration continually offers up excuses that are just as lame while even professional journalists take it seriously. Granted, politicians lying and making excuses is as old as mankind, but Obama´s every bit as artless

Is TV Getting More Conservative?

Over at the Free Beacon, Sonny Bunch has a nifty little piece arguing that FX’s little watched yet highly praised “The Americans” is the most reactionary show on television. And while he makes a good case, I’d contend there’s an odd, unnoticed glut of conservative-friendly TV these days, particularly on premium cable. First, let’s take “The Americans,” an excellent show about Soviet spies raising a family in the Virginia suburbs during the Reagan era. “Phillip” and “Elizabeth” are both Russian-born deep-cover KGB saboteurs who have been trained to speak and act like everyday Americans. Together they run a travel agency

STEVE WYNN: Artists, actors, people like that, they live in a very strange bubble of their own. They´re mollycoddled, they´re highly privileged. We are talking about successful artists like George [Clooney] or Barbra Streisand or any other really successful performing artist. They live in a relatively small world. The people around them are very solicitous and caring for them. They have a worldview that is, therefore, everything should be given to everybody because everything has been given to them. Is the federal government responsible for lifting millions of Americans out of poverty or trapping them in it? That question has become a political Rorschach test this year, the 50th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s war on poverty. On Wednesday, Representative Paul D. Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, is holding a third hearing on the government and the poor, featuring testimony from the “front lines.” In recent months, Mr. Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican, has loudly argued that the government has failed in its effort to end deprivation and ensure mobility.

A Rains County, TX sheriff´s deputy accused of shooting and killing a farmer´s dog for no reason has been fired, officials with the county sheriff´s office confirmed Thursday. The deputy argued that the dog, Candy, threatened his safety. Candy’s owner, Cole Middleton, is a third generation dairy farmer. After Candy died, Middleton began a campaign on Facebook that is getting national attention and said she was killed for no good reason. Last week, someone broke into Middleton’s house. He was on his tractor when the deputy arrived to investigate. Middleton could see Candy

Dozens of students plan to protest at Smith College on Thursday due to what they say is the women’s school’s refusal to make its admissions process more inclusive for transgender women after students’ negotiations with administrators failed. The Northampton, Mass., school came under fire last spring for its admissions policy after Calliope Wong, a transgender woman, was rejected because a federal student aid form identified her as male, even though she identifies as female. Since then, activists from the Smith Q&A student organization have pressed administrators to make a key change to the policy

The names of the six-member jury panel that acquitted George Zimmerman in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin have been made public for the first time, after a new court order, records show. Circuit Judge Debra Nelson, who had previously ordered the jurors´ identifying information be kept confidential, granted access to the names in a ruling March 21. Zimmerman´s defense asked the judge in June to keep the names secret until six months after the verdict. (Snip) Attempts to reach the jurors by phone and in-person Thursday were unsuccessful.

A charter plane believed to be carrying immigrants arrived this evening at San Diego’s Lindbergh Field, apparently from Texas. Three Homeland Security buses arrived a few minutes later, trailed by numerous law enforcement vehicles. There is no information as to the buses´ destination. Earlier this week, federal officials said that 140 immigrants who had been detained crossing the border in Texas would arrive Friday. But since the blockade by protesters Tuesday at Murrieta, officials have declined to provide information about the movement of the immigrants.

The Obamas have spent over 44 million dollars in taxpayer money on travel and vacations. Some are even calling him the “most well-trvaeled, expensive” president in our nation’s history. As Americans head off for the long holiday weekend, let’s take a look back at some of the president’s holiday spending. Our president vacations a lot — we’re talking $44,351,777.12 worth of “a lot,” with most expenses charged to the American taxpayer. As of March 2014, Obama has spent more time traveling internationally than any other president, taking 31 trips since assuming office in 2009. The 119 days spent overseas have

President Obama has quietly promised Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren complete support if she runs for president — a stinging rebuke to his nemesis Hillary Clinton, sources tell me. Publicly, Obama has remained noncommittal on the 2016 race, but privately he worries that Clinton would undo and undermine many of his policies. There’s also a personal animosity, especially with Bill Clinton, that dates from their tough race six years ago. A former Harvard law professor and administration aide, Warren would energize the left wing of the Democrat Party just as Obama did against Clinton in 2008. Thanks to her outspoken stand against big banks

For some time now, Elizabeth Foley and David Rivkin have had two questions about the 44th president: “How is he getting away with this? When the German botanist Philipp von Siebold sent a variety of plant specimens to the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew in August 1850, he had no idea what he was unleashing on the world. Among the various floral and tuberous growths he dispatched was a plant which, 164 years later, is leaving a trail of mayhem all across the planet. It goes by the name of Japanese knotweed, or Fallopia japonica. It presents a pleasing appearance to the eye: heart-shaped leaves, bamboo stems and pretty, little white-flower tassels. What is less obvious is this plant’s relentless killer instinct. Look through the

The vast majority of 50,000 unaccompanied youths and children who have illegally crossed the Texas border during the last few months have been successfully delivered by federal agencies to their relatives living in the United States, according to a New York Times article. Washington - Celebrating the ethnic diversity of America, President Barack Obama said more than two dozen foreign-born service members who became U.S. citizens at the White House on the Fourth of July are vivid reminders that welcoming immigrants "is central to our way of life." He pleaded anew for new immigration policies, saying the vast range of backgrounds and experiences that has made America a melting pot for more than 200 years also makes the country stronger. He argued that the system must be retooled for the U.S. to remain the greatest nation on earth. "The basic idea of welcoming
