Obama nominates Army Gen. John
Campbell to head Afghanistan exit

Washington - President Obama has tapped the vice chief of the Army to take over the U.S. command in Afghanistan later this year as America pulls out its combat troops and leaves a force of about 10,000 to train and advise the Afghan military. If confirmed by the Senate, ArmyGen. John Campbell will take over the Afghanistan post, returning to the country where he led the 101st Airborne Division’s deployment in 2010. (Snip) The 101st lost more than 130 division soldiers during that deployment - the deadliest war tour for the unit since Vietnam. Obama has also nominated Navy Adm. Bill Gortney, a naval aviator with almost 5,400 flight

Comments:
I don´t remember hearing about the terrible losses suffered by 101st Airborne Division. Since this occurred on 0bama´s watch, it makes sense that his sycophant LSM isn´t going to report these numbers freely. Putting the General who was in command then seems bad military reasoning, especially if he is being tapped to train an unknown, unvetted Iraqi force more than likely made up of Al Qaeda terrorist? Sounds like 0bama is rearranging the deck chairs again with his LGBT generals (sadly).

This is always done in the wrong way, i.e., the beltway method. What should happen is the four-star and staff should go first, then let a three star take over, etc. IOW get the flag´s strap hangers, civilian advisors, and high-level contractor politicos off the gravy train. Make it so it´s not lucrative to suck more money from the treasury and then get out troops out in an orderly fashion.

Bill Clinton and his wife are just regular folks, you should know. He says they talk to towns people near both of their mansions. They go to the grocery store on weekends and perhaps squeeze the fruit, as careful shoppers would watching their dollars in this stagnant Obamaconomy. Never mind the burly guys in cool shades nearby with curly wires running into their ears and machine guns under the jackets. Or their specially-trained defensive driver. Or the friends´ private jets that whisk them to another $200K speech. Ever the gallant husband, Bill Clinton was defending Hillary's oopsey-do claims on her book tour that the couple was

The plane was hit by six bullets, police said, killing the Pakistani woman and narrowly missing the captain. At least one bullet struck the plane's engine, police said. ISIS Targets in Iraq, US Says

Military aircraft that conducted air strikes against ISIS military targets in western Iraq are believed to have been from Syria’s air force, a U.S. official told ABC News. Such air strikes would be a regional escalation of the conflict inside Iraq where the Islamic militants have taken over cities in northern and western Iraq and threatened the stability of the Iraqi government. It would also make Syria the second country that has been hostile to the U.S. apparently helping Iraq. There have been reports of Iranian troops intervening on behalf of the beleaguered Iraqi government. ISIS fighters operate on both sides of the Syrian and Iraqi border.

White House national security adviser Susan E. Rice took time away from a variety of global security emergencies Tuesday to promote international gay rights, calling it “among the most challenging human rights issues we face.” The president’s top national security aide told about 200 gay-rights activists that the Obama administration is fostering gay rights in the U.S. to serve as an example for the rest of the world. She said President Obama has ordered a diplomatic and financial effort to promote the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender men and women around the world. “Protecting and upholding human rights,

Today marks the first Martian year -- 687 Earth days -- since NASA’s Curiosity rover landed safely on Mars. The robot has had a string of groundbreaking discoveries since it landed on the red planet in August 2012. In addition to taking a self-portrait that trumped all selfies on Earth, the rover made a major discovery in finding an ancient riverbed in an area known as Yellowknife Bay. Two mudstone slabs that the robot sampled with its drill revealed that the site once harbored mild water, the necessary elemental ingredients to support microbial life. “We haven’t proved that there was once was life,”

On Monday morning, at a White House summit on policies to help working families, Vice President Joe Biden reflected on his wealth. He said that while he wore a "mildly expensive suit" and was vice president of the United States of America, he didn´t own a stock or a bond, and as a senator, was the poorest member of the club. This bit is a longstanding part of Biden´s shtick, but was interpreted--most loudly by the Republican National Committee--as a dig at possible presidential rival Hillary Clinton. The former secretary of state has been having trouble talking about her considerable wealth, ever since she described herself as "dead broke"

A former Guantanamo detainee has been arrested in Spain for operating a terrorist cell that recruited fighters for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), Spanish police said. Lahcen Ikassrien, a 46-year-old Moroccan, and seven others were arrested in Madrid recently as part of a dozen raids in the Spanish capital, conservative watchdog Judicial Watch reported, based on Spanish news reports. Ikassrien, who spent four years at Guantanamo, reportedly recruited and sent jihadists to Iraq via Turkey to fight for ISIL, an offshoot of al Qaeda that seeks to establish an Islamic caliphate in the Middle East.

The revised program caps monthly loan payments at 10 percent of discretionary income, defined as income exceeding 150 percent of the federal poverty level for a single person. Syria has handed over the last of its declared stockpile of chemical weapons, which will be destroyed at sea over the next two months, the UN´s chemical weapons watchdog has said. The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical weapons (OPCW) announced that the final 8% of Syria´s acknowledged arsenal of chemical weapons and precursors had been loaded on to a Danish freighter. The ship, the Ark Futura, is now sailing to the Italian port of Gioia Tauro for a rendezvous with an American vessel, the MV Cape Ray, which is specially equipped to neutralise the most dangerous of the chemical agents at sea.

At immediate issue is two years of subpoenaed e-mails from former IRS official Lois Lerner to outside agencies, lost in a convenient computer crash. The possible involvement of other agencies is one focus of a congressional investigation into the heightened IRS scrutiny of conservative nonprofit groups before the 2012 election. In recent congressional testimony, Koskinen admitted that the e-mails

‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T,” the song goes. It is easy enough to spell, but for some vocal critics of President Barack Obama, it seems exceedingly hard to do. As the president moves toward the land of the lame ducks, his political enemies are calling for blood. That’s no shocker at this stage of a presidency. In this case, the cuts go deeper. For some, it is not enough to disagree. Some high-status public figures seem determined to demean, denigrate and ridicule the president of the United States. On June 12 the Speaker of the U.S. House stepped to a podium and insulted Obama for his handling of

Women vote Democrat because they are smarter, Obama said to a White House audience Monday afternoon. He made the remark at the end of a talk at the White House Summit on Working Families. “Somebody asked: ‘Well, it’s well-known that women are more likely to vote for Democrats,’ to which I said, women are smarter,” Obama said. “This is true.” The rest of Obama’s talk centered on paid maternity leave, a minimum wage of $10.10, flexibility in the workplace, and access to childcare. He blamed Congress for moving slowly after he asked it to raise the minimum wage and when

Lankford now becomes the prohibitive favorite to replace outgoing Senator Tom Coburn, who is retiring with two years remaining in his current term. This was a very different race from the one taking place in Mississippi. With Cochran forced into a runoff fight against an aggressive and energetic challenger, a dark mood shadowed his backers in Washington and Mississippi.Yet almost immediately, the Cochran coalition began bouncing back.
