A new Field Poll released Tuesday shows that 50% of registered voters in California approve of President Barack Obama´s job performance, while only 39% disapprove. However, there a striking divergence between the Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay areas on the one hand, and the rest of the state on the other. Outside the coastal counties, the president´s disapproval rating in the Field Poll is 46%, while his approval rating is only 42%. The president´s strong overall numbers in California are almost an exact mirror image of the president´s job approval rating average at RealClearPolitics, in which 41.6% approve and

The state should split, but not 6 ways for heaven´s sake. If you split a 20 mile-wide strip along the coast you would have 90% of liberals west of the Mississippi. San Diego would remain with the inland part of California. I think the country should split the same way. Give the liberals their coastal urban enclaves. Get rid of San Fransicko and LA and the state would have a chance to restore jobs and freedom from the marxists in the Capitol.

Astounding how many people want America destroyed. They will, of course, ultimately regret it.

After tea party candidates suffered defeats in Tuesday’s primaries — including in the Oklahoma Senate primary, where multiple marquee tea party names like Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin stumped for a candidate who lost decisively — former John McCain campaign strategist Steve Schmidt told a Morning Joe panel that “the tide is coming out” on the tea party and outside groups’ influence over GOP nominations. “Some of these outside groups — I don’t know if they’re vanity plays that they’re doing, when they go in there for McDaniel, go in for Oklahoma,” MSNBC political analyst Chuck Todd said. “You look

At the end of the 1960s, the Los Angeles Police Department decided it needed a better way to handle situations, such as confrontations with barricaded gunmen or hostage takers, that presented a high risk of deadly violence. So it created Special Weapons and Tactics units, known thereafter as SWAT. In the decades since, these units have spread nationwide, contributing to a startling militarization of local police agencies. The American Civil Liberties Union now raises troubling questions about the blurred lines that come with arming and training domestic law enforcement officers as though they are an extension of the U.S. military.

Conservative Groups Angry After Thad

National conservative groups are angry after incumbent Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran pulled off a victory in the state’s GOP run-off — likely because of his campaign’s outreach to Democratic voters. “It’s disgraceful that self-described GOP leaders like Mitch McConnell, John McCain, the Chamber of Commerce and the NRSC would champion a campaign platform of pork barrel spending and insider deal-making, while recruiting Democrats to show up at the polls,” Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks said after the results came in. Tuesday’s closely-watched run-off came after conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel edged Cochran in votes in the initial election earlier this month.

Responding to a question about the IRS scandal, White House spokesman Josh Earnest on Tuesday said the White House is committed to "cooperating" with both "legitimate" and "illegitimate" congressional oversight. "But I´ll go through it again, because it´s pretty entertaining," he told a reporter. That reporter wondered if the IRS´s two-month delay in telling Congress about Lois Lerner´s missing emails was "acceptable to this White House." "[W]hat would Congress have done had they known about it in April or May or whenever the commissioner first learned about it?" Earnest responded. "The fact of the matter is that this

After Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS) eked out a runoff victory over tea partier challenger Chris McDaniel Tuesday, in large part because African American Democrats voted in the open race, Inside Politics’ John King wondered if he would forget about the voters who put him over the top, or use their participation as a springboard for a larger conversation about voting rights within the Republican Party. “The question is now he’s Republican nominee, overwhelming favorite to keep this Senate seat in Republican hands,” King said. “What does he do: say thank you and forget, or might this be a turning point?

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — With an unusual assist from African-American voters and other Democrats who feared his opponent, Senator Thad Cochran on Tuesday beat back a spirited challenge from State Senator Chris McDaniel, triumphing in a Republican runoff and defeating the Tea Party in the state where the movement’s hopes were bright. “We all have a right to be proud of our state tonight,” Mr. Cochran said at his victory party in Jackson, Miss. “This is your victory.” Mr. McDaniel, speaking in Hattiesburg, was angry, and he did not hesitate to say so. “There is something a bit strange, there is

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) survived the most intense challenge he’s ever faced in his 41-year political career, winning a runoff against conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel. The Associated Press called the race for Cochran, who is up 6,880 votes with 99.9 percent of precincts reporting. A source close to McDaniel told Breitbart News that he is considering legal challenges over ballots. Democrats who voted for Cochran on Tuesday but voted three weeks ago in the Democratic primary in the state were not allowed to vote in Tuesday’s election. Election results indicate Cochran´s late appeal to Democratic voters

Noted management expert and Internal Revenue Service Commissioner John Koskinen was apparently called out of retirement — like the Ted Williams of evasive, unapologetic bureaucrats — to destroy what is left of his agency’s credibility. At immediate issue is two years of subpoenaed e-mails from former IRS official Lois Lerner to outside agencies, lost in a convenient computer crash. The possible involvement of other agencies is one focus of a congressional investigation into the heightened IRS scrutiny of conservative nonprofit groups before the 2012 election. In recent congressional testimony, Koskinen admitted that the e-mails

As the president moves toward the land of the lame ducks, his political enemies are calling for blood. That’s no shocker at this stage of a presidency. In this case, the cuts go deeper. For some, it is not enough to disagree. Some high-status public figures seem determined to demean, denigrate and ridicule the president of the United States. On June 12 the Speaker of the U.S. House stepped to a podium and insulted Obama for his handling of

With a surprisingly wide margin of victory, Congressman James Lankford won the Oklahoma Republican U.S. Senate primary, defeating former Speaker of the State House of Representatives T.W. Lankford now becomes the prohibitive favorite to replace outgoing Senator Tom Coburn, who is retiring with two years remaining in his current term. This was a very different race from the one taking place in Mississippi. Thad Cochran’s political resurrection began with a campaign shakeup and ended with a Hail Mary television ad. Just three weeks ago, in the dead of night on June 3, the Mississippi senator’s staff sat shaken and dejected, crestfallen at the results of a primary that deprived the six-term incumbent of an electoral majority. With Cochran forced into a runoff fight against an aggressive and energetic challenger, a dark mood shadowed his backers in Washington and Mississippi.Yet almost immediately, the Cochran coalition began bouncing back. Even on that gloomy night of June 3, Cochran adviser Stuart Stevens was insisting to staffers: “We’re
