Whole Foods to Pay $800K
for Overcharging California
Consumers: Settlement

KTLA-TV [Los Angeles], by Melissa Pamer

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 6/24/2014 5:05:47 PM

After a statewide investigation found widespread pricing violations at Whole Foods Markets in California, the company has settled with three Southern California cities and agreed to pay $800,000 in civil penalties. The settlement was announcement Tuesday by the city attorney’s office in Los Angeles, where 10 Whole Foods stores operate. The city attorneys of Santa Monica and San Diego were also part of the lawsuit. “We’re taking action to assure consumers get what they pay for,” L.A. City Attorney Mike Feuer said in a news release. “No consumer should ever be overcharged by their local market.”

Comments:
I am one of those un-trendy types who has believed that Whole Foods was a ripoff from Day One. Set up to appeal to those who are prepared to pay too much to get foods they are told are superior. And who is telling them this? The entrepreneurial owners of Whole Foods, of course.

There´s a Whole Foods opening up in my town in a few weeks. I´m happy about that. Not because I would ever shop there, but because it should thin out the moonbats shopping at Market Basket.

The big question is, how can you possibly tell when you are being overcharged for something at Whole Foods? Is it when the item appears to be 3 times its normal cost, rather than just double?

So... Will that $800k find it´s way back to the "defrauded" consumers or will the government use it to line it´s own pockets to buy votes?

This was nothing more than a shake down by a socialist bureaucracy. If people want to pay $10 for hotdogs that´s their right.

In an open economy (a somewhat free market) you cannot be over charged. You pay what you are willing to pay. If you want to pay less, you shop somewhere else. Someone will always sell you the same product for less.

President Barack Obama’s request for $3.7 billion to address thousands of children entering the U.S. illegally at the Mexican border is being met by obstacles in Congress from lawmakers in both parties. Republicans, who have long advocated tougher border security, are demanding legislation to speed deportation of the minors in exchange for new spending. Some House Republicans also say the funds must be offset with cuts elsewhere. Although Obama wants to expedite the deportation of Central American children, many Democrats in Congress disagree with that approach. On July 8, the White House submitted its emergency budget request to the House of Representatives (which holds the "power of the purse" under our Constitution) to deal with the "humanitarian crisis" on our southern border. The budget request, which totals $3.7 billion, immediately drew flack from many representatives who called it a blank check. Responding in the media, White House Director of the Domestic Policy Council Cecilia Muñoz said that Congress cannot have it both ways: criticizing the administration while withholding the funding to effectively handle the crisis. Having studied the request, it seems clear to me that it

The White House on Tuesday formally requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to deal with an influx of Central American minors along the southern border. But the proposal was quickly met with broad skepticism among Republican lawmakers, who were doubtful that the package would be approved quickly — if at all. Administration officials said the request is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at building more detention centers, adding immigration judges, and beefing up border patrols and air surveillance. President Obama has said he hopes such steps will both speed deportations and discourage adults from sending children on

Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis. The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Starting next week, House Republicans will launch a highly visible—and likely tumultuous—three-week process of bringing to the floor legislation to authorize their promised lawsuit against President Obama over his use of executive actions. "In theory, you could report out a resolution tomorrow and vote on it," said a House GOP aide on Tuesday. "But that is not the approach [the leaders] want to take." Rather, the aim is to display—if not actually engage in—a more deliberative process, even if amid controversy. WASHINGTON — Congressional Democrats said Tuesday that they had developed legislation to override the Supreme Court decision on contraceptives. The bill would ensure that women have access to coverage for birth control even if they work for businesses that have religious objections. The bill, developed in consultation with the Obama administration, would require for-profit corporations like Hobby Lobby Stores to provide and pay for contraceptive coverage, along with other preventive services, under the Affordable Care Act. Fate hasn´t been kind to Hillary Clinton, at least not in its most recent phase. In 2008, when the plate was set for the national Democrats, she lost the nomination to Barack Obama, of scant years and no gravitas, who soared out of nowhere to wrench destiny from her on the unspecified promise of "change." Now, "change" has come, and people don´t like it. Iraq changed from a safe, stable ally (just ask Obama) to a terrorist haven, one of the reasons why, though no fellow Democrats seem likely to edge her, her chances of winning the White House seem dim. In fact, Obama thinks programs like DACA and a comprehensive amnesty bill are ways to solve the border crisis.
