City Light leader fell for copper con
Seattle Times, by Caitlin Cruz

Last year, two men claiming to be members of the Cherokee Nation who had traveled from Oklahoma came to Seattle with a simple goal: score some scrap copper. Dressed in beads and fringed suede, with one wearing a cap that said “Native,” they headed to the offices of Seattle City Light, where they chanced upon its superintendent, Jorge Carrasco, in the lobby. They told him they ran a nonprofit that taught disabled children how to make jewelry and needed some copper wire. Minutes after meeting them, Carrasco authorized the men to be given some scrap. But the two were actually

Comments:
Two weeks ago, it was disclosed that Carrasco had hired a company to write articles at Google praising him and City Light. Last week, the City council voted him a raise because he was a very important person and the city was ´lucky´ to have him the head of City Light. Seattle, will someday be the Detroit of the Northwest.

The workers helping load the trucks didn´t say anything for fear of being thought "insensitive" to the plight of these poor natives and their children. Don´t tell me political correctness doesn´t cost you a thing.

FTA: "Police described the men as members of a family of Romanian “gypsies” carrying on a “nationwide scam” that included “father, son, grandkids and son-in-law.”"

The only surprise here is that American Gypsies are no different than those here in Europe. Here, they steal the copper lines next to the train tracks that control the safety signalization. Nobody has been killed so far by a collision or derailment, but it´s only a matter of time.

Now that the horse is gone, somebody closed the barn door. Institute these tough new rules...with increased paperwork and bureaucratic oversight...to ensure that this never happens again.

Sounds like DC...or the State Department.

Seattle loses 20 tons of scrap metal but is able to retrieve it with the help of law enforcement. The IRS loses 20 thousand pieces of e-mail among its upper management and - that´s it. Gone.

If investigators would watch "My Fat Gypsy Wedding" they might accidently see one of the younger men getting married. Watched that one night and almost fell out of my chair laughing. Once was enough! This particular night they were paving driveways for Big Dollars.

Common sense calls for repeal

I don’t believe the Second Amendment was ever intended to support the kind of gun craziness we contend with today, but since it’s always used to ward off any common-sense gun reforms, maybe we ought to just fix the Constitution and be done with it. Yes, I know the odds against that are immense, but maybe we could start by nibbling away at the idea that the Constitution is infallible or that the founders had the answers to everything. They were smart men but neither perfect nor prescient. One of the ways they showed how smart they were, was that they made

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The state Fish and Wildlife Department doesn´t know what killed a cougar found on a beach in Bellingham. The Bellingham Herald reports the young adult male weighed about 110 pounds and showed no obvious signs of injury or disease. The big cat´s carcass was found Friday by a man walking on Squalicum Beach. Wildlife Officer Ryan Valentine speculated it may have eaten something poisonous or possibly drowned. It´s unusual to find a cougar on a beach but the predator may have been looking for deer, using Squalicum Creek as a travel corridor. The department says the carcass was taken into

In the season of resurrection, it’s fitting that he’s with us once again — bearded, prophetic, moralistic, promising to exalt the humble and cast down the mighty from their thrones. Yes, that’s right: Karl Marx is back from the dead. Not on a Soviet-style scale, mercifully, and not with the kind of near-scriptural authority that many Marxists once invested in him. But Marxist ideas are having an intellectual moment, and attention must be paid. As Timothy Shenk writes in a searching essay for The Nation, there are two pillars to the current Marxist revival. One is the clutch of young intellectuals Shenk dubs the “Millennial Marxists,”

With Iraq in danger of falling apart, new troubles on the Mexican border and other problems mounting up in Washington, President Obama on Thursday will try to the shift the narrative by reconnecting with average Americans. The president will travel to Minneapolis on Thursday and spend a day “in the shoes” of a mystery woman identified only as Rebekah. The woman, whose last name has yet to be revealed, recently wrote a letter to Mr. Obama, inspiring the president to visit her and learn more about her daily struggles. The White House is painting Thursday’s event as the first in

Hillary Clinton has a “secret deal” with her top aide Huma Abedin to keep her troublesome husband Anthony Weiner out of the spotlight, sources tell Page Six, as the former secretary of state mulls a run for president. Clinton aides have insisted Weiner “stay out of public life for two years,” and that he “avoid causing any further embarrassment to Huma or Clinton,” according to our sources. The former sexting pol has been noticeably absent at recent public events attended by Abedin, including the Gordon Parks Foundation Awards Dinner in Manhattan earlier this month. President Obama is now reaching terminal velocity, like a skydiver plunging toward earth. Except he doesn’t have a parachute. There’s a mighty splat coming soon. With his approval rating at 40 percent, down 6 points from early June, and just 29 percent of Americans convinced the country is on the “right track,” the president is doubling down on his strategy of blaming Republicans for his failures. And he’s shifting into hyperpartisan drive, traveling the country to campaign for Democrats, many of whom wish he’d just stay away. Worse, the news just keeps getting well, worse: The Veterans Affairs scandal is blazing, with

Lois Lerner, the controversial director of the tax-exempt organizations division at the Internal Revenue Service, has a long sordid history of targeting conservatives. Under the direction of Lois Lerner, the Federal Election Commission sued the Christian Coalition in the 1990s. She harassed the Christian Coalition for three election cycles. Eventually, she lost her case. At one point Lerner even asked a targeted conservative if Pat Robertson prayed over him. (Sound familiar?) In 1996, while at the FEC, Lois Lerner harassed Republican Senate candidate Al Salvi and made him this outrageous offer, “Promise me you will never run for office again, and

Ordinarily, President Obama’s days are planned out to the smallest detail. But for his two-day excursion to Minnesota this week, the president boasted that he’s got little in the way of a formal agenda, has few firm plans, and warned Secret Service that he’s feeling “super loose” and could end up doing any number of things. “I don’t know. I’m just going to make it up as I go along,” Mr. Obama said during a town-hall meeting at Minneapolis’ Minnehaha Park, one of the few planned activities during his two-day stay in the Twin Cities. “I’m like a caged bear,

Republicans are in the strongest position to win back the Senate since losing it eight years ago. Over several months, the party has expanded its range of targeted seats, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has helped defeat insurgents it didn’t want representing the GOP in the midterm elections. This sober realization came to Democrats on Wednesday, as Tuesday night’s primary results showed they cannot count on Tea Party candidates upsetting more-electable incumbents. And Democrats are increasingly realizing that President Obama’s approval rating will probably remain mired at 45 percent or lower until

In the absence of a special prosecutor, the best opportunity for piercing the veil of secrecy and evasion that surrounds the IRS handling of groups perceived as enemies of the Obama administration lies in civil litigation. (snip)The absence of any official judicial inquiry into the inner workings of the IRS processes is why it is so important to note that yesterday saw the beginning of the discovery phase in the lawsuit by Z-Street a pro-Israel organization that was told its application for tax exempt status was being delayed because: …these cases are being sent to a special unit in the DC

Simply because of the Fifth Amendment. Does invoking the Fifth Amendment indicate guilt? I mean, I love how conservatives always tell me how much they love and admire and basically want to have sex with the constitution – except they’d probably get paper cuts with that old parchment paper – but when somebody actually exercises their constitutional rights, it’s a big problem.

A shocking new report from the Center for Immigration Studies claims to prove that every single new job created in America for the last fourteen years has gone to immigrants, legal and illegal. This would fly in the face of those who claim that immigration is an economic boon to native born Americans: The CIS report found that over the last 14 years, people who were born in the United States held 114.8 million jobs in 2000, and held 114.7 million jobs in 2014, a drop of 127,000. But it’s an entirely different picture for immigrants — 5.7 million more

Comparisons between Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney have been greatly exaggerated, Hillary Clinton says. Clinton practically rolled with laughter when PBS’ Gwen Ifill noted humorlessly that her own husband has been “forced” to defend her recent comments about being “dead broke” after leaving the White House. What was humorous in that remarks is known only to Clinton. “I shouldn’t have said the, I think, five or so words that I said,” the former secretary of state said. “My inartful use of those five words doesn’t change who I am.” Later in the interview, Ifill asked if Clinton had become the Democratic adaptation of

It was the elephant on the back of the elephant in the middle of the room. In a recent interview with Rusty Humphries, Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio made news by saying that the Obama administration was “incompetent” and that its current dumping of illegals in Arizona is intentional. Yet perhaps even more shocking was a 45-second segment of the interview that has received scant attention: A claim by Arpaio that he’s close to discovering who forged Barack Obama’s birth certificate. His comments were made between 9:59 and 10:44 in the interview and began as an explanation of why he
