Boko Haram militants have abducted 60 more girls and women and 31 boys from villages in northeast Nigeria, reports claim. The apparent kidnapping in Kummabza, 95 miles from Borno state capital Maiduguri, is minutes from Chibok, where more than 200 schoolgirls were taken hostage on April 15. It has renewed fears over the safety of civilians amid a military state of emergency that has failed to curtail near-daily attacks by Boko Haram fighters. Security forces denied the kidnappings. Nigeria´s government and military have been widely criticized for their slow response to the schoolgirls´ abduction more than two months ago.

Why is this our problem?
Muslims have been doing this for hundreds of years, and were the primary slave traders for the US in the 1700´s and 1800´s.

This may be something we can do nothing about. Seems like a matter for the Nigerian government to take care of. And Nigerian outrage should be pressing them to do so.

This is not for the American president, his wife, or our military to meddle in.

Moncks Corner residents enjoy

U.S. Speaker of the House John Boehner was in Moncks Corner earlier this month, according to a story posted Wednesday on The Berkeley Independent´s website. Abbie Brown of Brown´s BBQ got a phone call after the lunch rush on June 6 asking if someone special could come in for lunch. Boehner and his entourage of Capitol Police agents came in, and were later joined by former congressman Henry Brown, according to the story. Boehner had been in town to play golf earlier that day with the former congressman, the story said.

The game is up. No one will now believe that the United Kingdom can deliver a substantively different deal in Europe. The FCO´s ploy of doing a Harold Wilson--that is, making some piffling changes and presenting them as a significant new deal--has been discredited almost before it began. If David Cameron couldn´t prevent the appointment of Jean-Claude Juncker as President of the European Commission, no one will believe that he can deliver a more flexible EU, with more freedom of action for its member nations. I suspect this is one of those situations where normal people get the point more

It was retired Army Major Del Henty who first raised the alarm. Spotting the convoy of caravans making its way through the West Sussex village of Findon towards its picturesque village green at around 2.45pm on Tuesday he knew trouble was brewing. The convoy turned out to be a group of travellers intent on pitching their caravans on Nepcote Green--where for 300 years a traditional sheep fair has been held each summer--for what could have turned out to be weeks, if not months. [Snip] Last year a larger group of travellers moved onto the green and caused what local residents and councillors

Britain has moved a step closer to leaving the European Union after David Cameron declared “war” on Brussels over the nomination of Jean-Claude Juncker. [Snip] The result emboldened Eurosceptic MPs and Ukip supporters who want to leave the EU. However, Mr Cameron said he would wage a “long, tough fight” to reform Brussels before campaigning for Britain to remain in the EU in an in-out referendum he has promised to hold in 2017. The Prime Minister said the decision to nominate Mr Juncker, an arch-federalist facing questions about his drinking habits, represented “a sad day for the EU”.

From the start, David Cameron has loathed European summits. [Snip] Take, for example, today’s summit to decide the next president of the European Commission. Cameron knows that most of his counterparts regard Jean-Claude Juncker as a fairly useless, wine-soaked uber-federalist. But yesterday, they were all (with the possible exception of Hungary) set to vote him in as president--all except Britain, which is the only country to denounce the whole scam. If this is the way the system works, Cameron says, he wants a new system. There is an element of Mr Smith Goes to Washington about all of this. Cameron

David Cameron faces a looming and crushing defeat over Jean-Claude Juncker because he fatally embraced Angela Merkel, a woman known in German politics as the black widow. [Snip] If Mr Cameron made one mistake in his campaign to stop creeping “political union” by stopping the European Parliament from transforming the commission into a crypto “government”, with a president chosen by MEPs after EU elections, it was the naivety of trusting Chancellor Merkel. It is popularly imagined that the size of the British state has shrunk dramatically since the socialist Seventies, but figures released by the Office for National Statistics suggest otherwise. In 1977, some 40.7 percent of households received more in benefits (including in-kind benefits such as health and education) than they paid in taxes. That proportion has now risen to 52 percent. It hit a peak in the middle of the recession of 53.5 percent and has fallen slightly. But even with that small decline, most people would be surprised--if not shocked--to discover that a majority of Britons now take out

Comparisons between Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney have been greatly exaggerated, Hillary Clinton says. Clinton practically rolled with laughter when PBS’ Gwen Ifill noted humorlessly that her own husband has been “forced” to defend her recent comments about being “dead broke” after leaving the White House. What was humorous in that remarks is known only to Clinton. “I shouldn’t have said the, I think, five or so words that I said,” the former secretary of state said. “My inartful use of those five words doesn’t change who I am.” Later in the interview, Ifill asked if Clinton had become the Democratic adaptation of

Were Lois Lerner’s allegedly lost emails actually destroyed? An Ohio-based trade association, the International Association of Information Technology Asset Managers (IAITAM), isn’t so sure, and they don’t find IRS commissioner Koskinen’s explanation of their loss very plausible. IAITAM administers internationally accepted certifications for information technology professionals. According to the group’s standards, if Lerner’s supposedly malfunctioning hardware was properly destroyed, there would be records of it. Dr. Barbara Rembiesa, president of IAITAM, questions whether there is documentation of the destruction of the files. Who performed the work, says Rembiesa, is important because not all IT professionals are IAITAM certified. “The notion

What transpired in the Mississippi Senate run-off is a red line for many conservatives across the country, because the Republican Party establishment essentially took a civil war and escalated it to a war for independence. It’s one thing to oppose your base in a primary. It’s entirely another to despicably play the race card against your base, and bolster the legitimacy of the propaganda of our race-baiting opponents on the Left. But that’s exactly what the Kamikaze pilots running the GOP did. As a result, Chris McDaniel won Republican voters handily on Tuesday, but still lost the run-off statewide thanks
