Warning Unheeded, Heart
Drugs Are Recalled

New York Times, by Katie Thomas

Original Article

For years, Dr. Harry Lever, a cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic, has been warning nearly anyone who would listen of his growing suspicions about generic versions of a widely used heart drug, Toprol XL. Patient after patient, he said, would visit his office complaining of chest pains or other symptoms after switching from the brand-name version, made by AstraZeneca, to a generic product, often one made in India. When he switched them back to the brand — or to another generic — the symptoms disappeared, he said. Dr. Lever wrote a letter outlining his concerns to the Food and Drug

Remember all the uproar over melamine in petfood and baby formula from China? Stop taking cheap goods from countries who hate us or desire our ruin.

There´s a time to live, and a time to die.

The list of ´side effects´ of most modern drugs APPROVED by the FDA are far more damaging than the unwellness´ they treat.

I began experiencing dizziness, which was caused by high blood pressure. The doctor referred me to a specialist, who would put me on medication. Instead, I immediately cut out caffeine, salt, lost twelve pound, and began walking three miles each day. My blood pressure is normal, now.

Repeat to me that old adage again . . ., "A man who´s his own doctor, has a fool for a patient."

Although some require certain medications, many could avoid them if they followed a weight loss, healthy diet and exercise program. The jury is presently out on salt. But the one we need is the one that has some iodine in it, not the trendy sea salt that does not. And we only need a little.

My husband used to salt food before even tasting it. No more. He had to admit he doesn´t miss it, that it was a habit. I am judicious with salt in cooking. For example, most vegetables contain a fair amount of natural salt. Our taste buds can adjust.

I am skeptical that the FDA can satisfactorialy monitor products made in this country let alone in a Third World country abroad. There are a few overseas manufacturers that seem to have good records - Teva (Israel) for one. The manufacturer´s name is on the label (sometimes in truncated form) - look them up on the internet and find out where they are located and if there is any negative information on any of their products. We need to be our own watchdogs.

Nothing we ingest - including food and drink - is free of "side effects". Those listed by the FDA are intended to be warnings of possible reactions, not probability. Medicines do heal, but many possible reactions must be given advance notice.

I wonder how many actually read those fine print monographs that accompany their prescriptions?

The situation with this generic drug is quite different. The active ingredient is the same. The delivery agents (still under another patent) are not disclosed to the generic makers. So they have to give it their best shot. In this case the medication simply didn´t work. The patients didn´t have "side effects". They experienced symptoms of the condition that was unsatisfactorily treated by the generic medication.

The article also makes it clear that extended release medications are the ones that can have this kind of problem. It´s the delivery system/ingredients.

In an interview with National Public Radio’s David Folkenflik, former CBS investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson said that the network discouraged her from pursuing stories on the Obama administration, and seemingly lost interest in her government watchdog stories to the point that they kept them off the air. Here are some excerpts from Attkisson’s interview: “You know, times I’ve been encouraged to begin covering stories about the Obama administration but then mid-stream I’ve been clearly discouraged from continuing to pursue them as the stories seem to start to get dicey, or as I seem to be able to turn up very good

I heard two explosions, one after the other, indicating that two Kassam rockets had struck my town, Sderot, Israel, at about 1:30 last Thursday morning. Having been through the big fire of last week, when a Kassam ignited a paint factory, I looked out my window for any sign of fire. I saw none. I considered going out to look for the damage, but I knew nobody would be in the streets at that hour. Nobody would be able to direct me in the direction of the bombing. I listened for ambulance or fire-engine sirens, but I heard none. I

Last week, conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt interviewed Zach Carter, who is The Huffington Post‘s senior political economy reporter. The interview’s purpose was to discuss Carter’s negative response to Hewitt’s previous interview of former Vice President Dick Cheney. The interview was lively and interesting but it did not go well for Carter, who was forced to admit his ignorance of the historical context of the situation in Iraq. Looked at one way, the interview might almost seem like pointless point-scoring. In response to Hewitt’s questions, Carter admitted he didn’t know who Alger Hiss was and that he hadn’t read The Looming

It has also taken down the article from its website and is planning to give the actor an "opportunity to set the record straight." The story, published originally by Mail Online and then published, in part, by the Daily Mail, stated that the mother of Amal Alamuddin, who is engaged to Clooney, had opposed their forthcoming marriage on religious grounds. Clooney issued a statement accusing the Mail of irresponsibility in publishing what he said was "a completely fabricated story." It stated that Alamuddin´s mother, Baria,

Mark Zuckerberg’s immigration reform push had all the capital, connections and star power to merit success. But not even Silicon Valley could make this investment — and the Facebook founder’s first foray into national politics — pay off. Tech leaders poured millions into FWD.us, an immigration advocacy group that has dominated ad buys, launched elaborate hackathons and coddled conservatives in an effort to revamp the country’s immigration system. It galloped into the debate with the tech industry’s classic certainty but wound up facing the same obstacles that have halted reform for decades.

Exploding shells and rockets rattled me awake in the early hours of a misty Tuesday morning in Saigon. I scrambled to my hotel roof and watched as fireballs, smoke and debris burst across the city’s famous airport — once one of the busiest in the world, now shut down as thousands desperate to evacuate jammed the hangars. As dawn arrived, people rushed to the rooftops of nearby buildings, staring in shock at the sudden, savage attack from artillery encircling the city. Two older military transport planes made an attempt to climb into the sky, slowly twisting and turning to escape

It was not so long ago that “The View” was a coveted destination on the presidential campaign circuit. Proving that one could play with Barbara Walters and the gang was a badge of cultural honor, one that Barack and Michelle Obama, among others, proudly wore. But now “The View” is a mess. Barbara has faded into retirement from the show she created, and in a messy housecleaning, only Whoopi Goldberg remains. The latest round of firings by ABC means that the franchise is in jeopardy. The program has been slipping. When I asked Walters why she was largely avoiding politics this season, she

Glenn Beck has set up Mercury One Children and Family Border Relief Fund to help illegals coming into the United States. He’s already raised $600,000. Beck stated that Obama would not have to step in and ask for $3.7 billion if private charities would pick up the slack and give to the swarm of illegals crossing the border. Is he kidding? Do we really need more churches and non-profits enabling this blatant attack on America? Rich people and liberal elite billionaires have no skin in the game when it comes to the consequences of illegal immigration so what do they care?
