Lexington Ky. — Police are still searching for a man involved in a shooting Friday night that left a Marine dead and his wife injured. Friends say 26-year-old Jonathan Price and his wife were out celebrating his wife´s birthday at Austin City Saloon on Woodhill Drive in Lexington on Friday, but the celebrations took a tragic turn as the couple walked through the parking lot back to their car. Lexington Police say around 1:30 a.m. the two were approached by a gunman who asked them for money and then friends say the unthinkable happened. "They had guns to their heads,

White Privilege.

Also, most states forbid concealed carry permit holders from bringing their weapons into establishments that serve alcoholic beverages, even if the person does not drink even a drop of alcohol (also a CCW requirement in most places). Net result: law-abiding Americans, including this Marine newlywed, are low-hanging fruit for criminal predators who use whatever weapons they want, wherever they may be.

Looks like Lexington is no better than Louisville in terms of black-on-white violence.

If this Marine returned home, only to be killed on US soil, shouldn´t we question who the real enemy is ?

Trenton — It wasn’t an expensive lunch, but it may be costly. Six public officials face possible prison time after they were charged today with filing fraudulent applications for free school lunch for their children — accused of stealing $10,000 in benefits, despite household incomes that in some cases exceeded $100,000. (Snip) The charges come in a wake of a report by the Office of the State Comptroller, which found what it called "widespread fraud" in the National School Lunch Program throughout New Jersey school districts. The report followed a series of news stories in The Star-Ledger documenting abuses by top officials

Los Angeles — Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detectives investigating a beating last week on a train platform are now investigating a homicide. The 65-year-old victim, now identified as LA resident John Whitmore, was standing on a Metro-Blue Line Imperial/Wilmington train platform on Friday afternoon June 13, when he was accosted and assaulted by two black females. The assault happened about 1:20 p.m. in Willowbrook. Whitmore was waiting for a train when the two women — for unknown reasons — began to hit him with their fists. Officials said they also kicked the man who collapsed on the ground.

University of California President Janet Napolitano said Friday that a new panel of 75 to 100 people will oversee UC´s efforts to deal with sexual violence at its 10 campuses. The announcement comes just days before the state auditor is expected to issue a report on how UC´s flagship campuses - UC Berkeley and UCLA - handle sexual assault complaints. State lawmakers had authorized the audit during an emotional hearing in Sacramento in August after nine UC Berkeley students and alumnae accused campus officials of treating their assault allegations far too lightly. For more than a decade, the CIA has deployed drones, satellites, spies, informants and tracking devices to thwart al-Qaeda in Pakistan. The spy agency also considered a plan to wage war with toys. Beginning in about 2005, the CIA began secretly developing a custom-made Osama bin Laden action figure, according to people familiar with the project. The face of the figure was painted with a heat-dissolving material, designed to peel off and reveal a red-faced bin Laden who looked like a demon, with piercing green eyes and black facial markings. There are times that I have senior moments and forget certain names and events but after the recent Obama Iraq war implosion, I´m convinced most political pundits are suffering from them as well. What is unusual is that this revision of history is being committed by conservatives who should know better. Recent commentary by Glenn Beck, George Will and Charles Krauthammer indicate that they have significant memory lapses about why we went to war in Iraq. They now suggest that it was a wrong decision whereas my complaint is that we took too long to invade and oust Saddam Hussein.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) cancelled its longtime relationship with an email-storage contractor just weeks after ex-IRS official Lois Lerner’s computer crashed and shortly before other IRS officials’ computers allegedly crashed. The IRS signed a contract with Sonasoft, an email-archiving company based in San Jose, California, each year from 2005 to 2010. The company, which partners with Microsoft and counts The New York Times among its clients, claims in its company slogans that it provides “Email Archiving Done Right” and “Point-Click Recovery.” Sonasoft in 2009 tweeted, “If the IRS uses Sonasoft products to backup their servers why wouldn’t you choose

All the time I was growing up in Atlanta, the face of Robert E. Lee was taking shape on the side of an enormous granite mountain just outside town. He loomed like a god above us, as much a presence as any deity, and God knows he was accepted as such. It was only much later that I began to question his sanctity, and then to hate what he stood for. When I was in elementary school, the face of Lee on Stone Mountain was a rough-cut thing, weathering and wasting as the generation that began it in 1912—a generation

The decision this past week by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to rescind federal trademark protections for the Redskins may ultimately tip the balance in the controversy over the 80-year-old name of Washington’s football team. If so, that would be a shame. Not because there’s insufficient reason to consider the name “disparaging to Native Americans,” as the patent office determined. Many of us recoil at the reference to skin color as a team identity. The problem is that the Redskins case is just the latest example of a federal agency going beyond its brief to inappropriately insert itself in

‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T,” the song goes. It is easy enough to spell, but for some vocal critics of President Barack Obama, it seems exceedingly hard to do. As the president moves toward the land of the lame ducks, his political enemies are calling for blood. That’s no shocker at this stage of a presidency. In this case, the cuts go deeper. For some, it is not enough to disagree. Some high-status public figures seem determined to demean, denigrate and ridicule the president of the United States. On June 12 the Speaker of the U.S. House stepped to a podium and insulted Obama for his handling of

US Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived in Iraq´s capital, Baghdad as Sunni insurgents expand their control of towns across north-western Iraq. In Egypt on Sunday, Mr Kerry warned that Sunni militants Isis´ "ideology of violence and repression is a threat not only to Iraq but to the entire region". On Sunday rebels--spearheaded by Isis militants--captured border crossings to Syria and Jordan. The strategically important airport in the northern Tal Afar has also fallen. The town controls the main road from the Syrian border to Mosul, Iraq´s second biggest city, which was captured by the rebels two weeks ago.

With much of the Obama administration´s foreign policy in tatters, John Kerry is clear on at least one goal he hopes to achieve by the end of his time as secretary of state: having lesbian, bisexual, and transgender ambassadors representing the United States. In remarks to a GLIFAA (formerly Gays and Lesbians in Foreign Affairs Agencies) Pride event in the Ben Franklin Room at the State Department, the secretary ran through a litany of accomplishments by the Obama administration that benefit the "LGBT/gay community." A hundred years ago next week, in the small Balkan city of Sarajevo, Serbian nationalists murdered the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary and his wife. The least loved institution in America today is the U.S. Senate, and one of the reasons it is reviled is a zero-sum approach to women´s medical care. It´s time we changed that and adopt modern policies that make sense instead of using women´s medical issues as an election-year power play. One of the most rational ways for Washington to break this gridlock is to approve oral contraception for over-the-counter purchases by adults. Since "the pill" was first approved 44 years ago, it´s been one of the most proven and tested pharmaceuticals of our time. It is safe, reliable, effective, and presents
