Hillary Clinton Wants Bill to Lift Her Up—
but Obama Will Drag Her Down

Daily Beast, by Lloyd Green

Hillary Clinton’s book tour is in fact showing the limits of her charms—at a time when Barack Obama’s unpopularity may rub off on her. Once again, Hillary Clinton has reminded us that she is not a natural-born politician—unlike her husband, Bill. Questioned by Diane Sawyer about her role in what went wrong in Benghazi, Clinton slipped into monotonal legalism and disavowed her own responsibility for security breaches surrounding the murders by Islamic militants of J. Christopher Stevens, our ambassador to Libya, and Sean Smith, a foreign service officer. Dodging and weaving, Clinton punted on her own nexus to disaster:

I mis-read the headline; I thought the Beast wanted Congress to pass a law stating that everyone MUST vote for Herself.

Bill likes to ´lift up´ the Beast by damning her with faint praise. With that red nose of his [you could even say it glows], he DOES resemble WC Fields. "Judas priest, what a gallimawfrey!"

Before I continue with my string of posts on the theme of reform conservatism’s correct views on everything, let me make a brief foray into real-world politics: Yesterday Senator Marco Rubio gave a domestic policy speech, co-hosted by Hillsdale College and the YG Network, that’s worth reading if you’re interested in what a reformist vision looks like when it’s an actual Republican politician (rather than a tribe of conservative scribblers) giving it form and substance. Naturally, it strikes me as a very impressive and encouraging speech. But I think I would say that even if I were less inclined to

In Tuesday’s Republican primary runoff in Mississippi, Chris McDaniel could have run on an economic growth platform and won, but he chose to run as a clueless conservative, and he lost. The lesson from this race is clear. If conservatives forget that economic growth is the signature Republican issue, they should expect to lose. Yes, the actions taken by the Republican establishment to help incumbent senator Thad Cochran were egregious and disgusting, but if McDaniel had given the electorate any sign that he knew how to fix the economy (which is the voters’ #1 concern right now), he would have won

He’s the increasing rare Republican who doesn’t outright frighten the electorate. And the way things are going, the Indiana governor might end up being the last candidate standing. Even at a gathering of Republican bigwigs who have come together on the occasion of a speech by Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, it is hard to find very many people who are very excited about Mike Pence. And so in the lobby of the Sheraton Hotel in midtown Manhattan, at the annual New York State Republican Party dinner, two top GOP operatives were lifting up their pant legs to compare their respective argyle socks,

A shocking new report from the Center for Immigration Studies claims to prove that every single new job created in America for the last fourteen years has gone to immigrants, legal and illegal. This would fly in the face of those who claim that immigration is an economic boon to native born Americans: The CIS report found that over the last 14 years, people who were born in the United States held 114.8 million jobs in 2000, and held 114.7 million jobs in 2014, a drop of 127,000. But it’s an entirely different picture for immigrants — 5.7 million more

Bill and Hillary Clinton discussed the future president’s compulsive personality, his struggles with the loneliness of public office, his ambitions for the future, and the future first lady’s career and hopes for her daughter Chelsea in a series of interviews with an Arkansas journalist between 1983 and 1987. The interviews, recorded on more than five hours of audiotape and donated to the University of Arkansas Special Collections archives by the Arkansas reporter Roy Reed, were supposed to make the pages of Esquire. The story, which would have marked the Clintons’ first major profile in a national magazine, never ran due to space

Hillary: More Myth Than Reality

Hillary appears poised to win the Democratic nomination and then the presidency — again. “Again” is the problem with such a prediction, and it should raise questions not only unasked, but apparently subconsciously avoided. The core question is whether or not the notion of Hillary Clinton as a political titan is more myth than reality. By all accounts, Hillary Rodham had a stellar academic career – and a very politically active one. At Wellesley College she was the first student to deliver its commencement address. She had her pick of Harvard or Yale for law school. When she graduated from Yale

After completing the journey, Li stitched together video footage of himself in each state waving an American flag in front of a major landmark or monument. Uploaded to YouTube in the "spirit of Independence Day," the result is an 83-second video that will put your annual sheet cake to shame. Li told ABC News that he came up with

Malaysia Airlines (MASM.KL) Flight MH370 was most likely on autopilot when it crashed into the Indian Ocean further south than previously thought, Australian officials said on Thursday, as they charted the next phase of a so far fruitless search. The new analysis comes more than 100 days after the Boeing (BA.N) 777, carrying 239 passengers and crew, disappeared on March 8 shortly after taking off from Kuala Lumpur bound for Beijing. Investigators say what little evidence they have to work with suggests the plane was deliberately diverted thousands of kilometres from its scheduled route before eventually plunging into the Indian Ocean. LAUREL, Mississippi -- Defeated Tea Party U.S. Senate candidate Chris McDaniel issued a statement Wednesday afternoon indicated a challenge of Tuesday night´s results from his Republican runoff with Sen. Thad Cochran was still a possibility. "The conservative movement is alive in Mississippi," McDaniel said. "The Republicans who voted last night made it clear they´re looking for conservative change in Mississippi. "But the results also tell another story," McDaniel continued. "They tell the story of some members of our party who are willing to engage in tactics unbecoming of the party of Ronald Reagan. It´s no wonder so many conservatives don´t feel welcome

In fact, that´s all that the Army said: We have no reason to believe that he engaged in any misconduct." Bergdahl electrified the national discourse last month after he was freed in a prisoner swap involving five members of the Taliban held at Guantanamo Bay. As charges against his character emerged, the narrative quickly shifted from Bergdahl as POW to Bergdahl as despicable deserter, unworthy

I’m gratified that Senator Paul responded to my criticism of the constitutionality of his plan for a federal bill to reenfranchise some felons, but I’m afraid that his response is quite unpersuasive. Senator Paul seems to think that states can decide who votes in state elections but that the federal government has the final say on who can vote in federal elections, but that is just not true. The U.S. Constitution itself explicitly gives the authority to decide who votes in federal elections to the states (consistent, of course, with other constitutional guarantees, like the prohibition of poll taxes). President Obama is now reaching terminal velocity, like a skydiver plunging toward earth. Except he doesn’t have a parachute. There’s a mighty splat coming soon. With his approval rating at 40 percent, down 6 points from early June, and just 29 percent of Americans convinced the country is on the “right track,” the president is doubling down on his strategy of blaming Republicans for his failures. And he’s shifting into hyperpartisan drive, traveling the country to campaign for Democrats, many of whom wish he’d just stay away. Worse, the news just keeps getting well, worse: The Veterans Affairs scandal is blazing, with

Ordinarily, President Obama’s days are planned out to the smallest detail. But for his two-day excursion to Minnesota this week, the president boasted that he’s got little in the way of a formal agenda, has few firm plans, and warned Secret Service that he’s feeling “super loose” and could end up doing any number of things. “I don’t know. Republicans are in the strongest position to win back the Senate since losing it eight years ago. Over several months, the party has expanded its range of targeted seats, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has helped defeat insurgents it didn’t want representing the GOP in the midterm elections. This sober realization came to Democrats on Wednesday, as Tuesday night’s primary results showed they cannot count on Tea Party candidates upsetting more-electable incumbents. And Democrats are increasingly realizing that President Obama’s approval rating will probably remain mired at 45 percent or lower until

What was humorous in that remarks is known only to Clinton. “I shouldn’t have said the, I think, five or so words that I said,” the former secretary of state said. “My inartful use of those five words doesn’t change who I am.” Later in the interview, Ifill asked if Clinton had become the Democratic adaptation of
