A guard of honour and a meeting with

When the Chinese premier visited London this week he was greeted with an honour guard, a Downing Street reception and a meeting with the Queen. But one aspect of Li Keqiang’s welcome fell somewhat short in the eyes of Chinese officials – the red carpet rolled out for his arrival at Heathrow. After plans for Mr Li’s visit were shown to the Beijing government, aides complained that the carpet leading from the steps of his plane was not long enough. ‘They saw a diagram of the arrangements at Heathrow and complained that the carpet was three metres too short,’ said one of

A Taliban bomb attack on the outskirts of Kabul set ablaze 200 fuel trucks that the militants claimed were supplying foreign troops in Afghanistan, officials said. The tankers were set on fire as they sat in a parking lot waiting to enter the Afghan capital, which is currently gripped by a fraud dispute over presidential elections in June. Taliban insurgents fighting a 13-year-war against US-led forces in Afghanistan often attack western supply convoys and claimed responsibility for the late Friday night attack. Television footage showed black smoke billowing above the site of the attack, with the charred wreckage of dozens of trucks

Ukraine crisis:

BBC News [UK], by Staff    Original Article

Pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine have fled their eastern stronghold of Sloviansk amid an offensive by the military, rebel sources say. President Petro Poroshenko has ordered the military to hoist the Ukrainian flag over the city council building. Sloviansk´s rebel mayor said fighters had left, with reports saying they had headed towards the town of Kramatorsk. Ukrainian forces launched an offensive against the separatists this week after a 10-day ceasefire broke down. The BBC´s David Stern in Kiev says the military´s capture of Sloviansk - where the eastern insurgency began in April - will be a major victory for the government.

While David Cameron and his government are still reeling from the "coup" pulled off by the European Parliament last week in Brussels, when MEPs seized control of the selection of the next president of the European Commission away from national leaders, the EU elite are wasting no time manoeuvring to take away even more power from Britain and other member states in a series of smaller "coups." Only days after Patrick Moore, the disillusioned co-founder of Greenpeace, said the green movement has become a "combination of extreme political ideology and religious fundamentalism rolled into one," Greenpeace seems determined to prove Moore was right. The group has launched a fun-sucking, fundamentalist attack on the toy company Lego, claiming "Shell is using Lego to clean up its image for dirty oil drilling" in the Arctic. Greenpeace, like an environmental Bible-thumper, demands, "Lego, how will you rebuild what Shell destroys?" Maybe we’ve been conned. There’s a growing recognition that Barack Obama is an incompetent poser, working out of his depth, and his administration is the gang that can’t shoot straight. There’s a lot of evidence to support that belief. Everything he touches becomes a bloody mess, like crushed bones and bits of flesh caught in the tracks of a tank slicing through a rank of soldiers (or civilians). Iraq, Syria, Egypt — all gone, as prospects for countries with a prosperous and democratic future. The “reset” with Russia, meant to ensure that America and the replacement republic of the old

But since the blockade by protesters Tuesday at Murrieta, officials have declined to provide information about the movement of the immigrants.

President Obama has, except on fleeting occasions, routinely disdained the customary Oval Office language of compromise and coalition-building for the low arts of sophistry and belittlement. That was to be expected, given his background as a Chicago community organizer and product of that city´s corrupt Democrat political machine. But Obama has far exceeded dismal expectations. No previous American president employed the systematic distortion of fact and mendacious characterization of opponents that have typified Obama´s presidency. His "so sue me" speech last week is a classic illustration of the community organizer practicing Saul Alinsky´s 13th rule: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize

The headline of today’s jobs report, that 288,000 jobs were created in the last month, is positive. At least, it is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. However, as with most economic reports these days, there is a veneer of good news — but when you look closer, the White House is using the positive headlines to hide the growing deterioration of the American workforce. I’m sure by now people are tired of reading about the bad news, and I’ll admit I am weary of having to blow the whistle and expose the truth every
