Presbyterians Vote to Divest
Holdings to Pressure Israel

New York Times, by Laurie Goodstein

Original Article

Posted By:EagleEye, 6/20/2014 9:05:50 PM

Detroit - After passionate debate over how best to help break the deadlock between Israel and the Palestinians, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) voted on Friday at its general convention to divest from three companies that it says supply Israel with equipment used in the occupation of Palestinian territory. The vote, by a count of 310 to 303, was watched closely in Washington and Jerusalem and by Palestinians as a sign of momentum for a movement to pressure Israel to stop building settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem and end the occupation, with a campaign known as B.D.S., for Boycotts, Divestments and Sanctions.

Comments:
If this were not the 0bamaNation, the current Presbyterian church might rightfully find itself on a terrorist watch-list, assets frozen, IRS audits. Oh, that only happens to the Tea Party.

Many are staying in the Presbyterian USA church because grandma is buried out back. What they don´t know is that she´d leave too if she could.

Another ex-Presbyterian here (my sister and her family are still active). There are many, many factions in the church; my particular one is the Presbyterian Church of the U.S. Not U.S.A., but U.S. As thirteen-year-olds we had to learn the history of the church before joining as adult members. Now I am a non-denominational Christian, mostly because many branches of the church have abandoned Israel, and have knuckled under to seemingly every fashion of the day. I like to stick to the text of the Word.

There has never been a nation of people called Palestinian.

Get a copy of the book ´From Time Immemorial" by Joan Peters. From just one of the book reviews; The great merit of this book is to demonstrate that, on the Palestinian issue , these experts speak from utter ignorance. Millions of people the world over, smothered by false history and propaganda, will be grateful for this clear account of the origins of the Palestinians.´

These people are Arabs who no Arab country wants because they never were part of any Arab country. They were Arab nomads who wandered from place to place. At the start of their being organized by nationalist agitators who made themselves wealthy from fleecing donations of money and goods from countries who have ignorant political leadership.

All of "organized religion" really does need to read Dietrich Bonhoeffer, particularly his "Genesis"; it is suggested that you too read same.

Bonhoeffer writes: "The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children."

He makes quite clear, in "Genesis", what is marriage, what it means, and what it means in the reflection of our relationship with God.

But then, God, for contemporary "organized religion", God is god, not really anything of any real importance as "self" is promoted over "things unseen" as "things unseen" are of no consequence to our contemporary feel-good social engineering; God is irrelevant.

Eden revisited daily as "the fall".

After 20 years of putting up with the idiot liberals that took control of the PCUSA denomination, our church finally left. You are going to see it go off the rails in the next few years. Most of the large churches are going to quit and the restraints we had on the denomination w/b gone. They are going to approve actively gay ministers, alternate paths to heaven that do not go through Christ, the view of the Bible - like the US Constitution - being a ´living document´ to be adjusted to current times, and who knows what else.

To pressure Israel? The "peace process" has been going on (and on) for decades now, and the only thing standing in the way of peace is the desire of Arabs to wipe out every Jew. Also the fact that once Muslims have conquered a country, they forever consider it Islamic territory. That´s how they feel about Spain, as well. I think the "palestinians" should get the heck out of the Land of Israel, and go back to Arabia.

Look... For conservatives, PCUSA has been a write-off for at least 20 years. It has lost so many members, I wonder if there´s anybody left who actually attends their church services on Sunday?

Like me, most Bible-believing Christians switched from PCUSA to PCA YEARS ago.

PCUSA is a hollow shell of a church by now. There´s no "there" there. Nobody´s home.

Israel has been forced to cope with waves of terrorism of various types and intensities since its founding and to this day. These waves of terrorism are carried out by various terrorist organizations (Palestinian and Shi’ite) in various arenas (internal, along the borders, overseas) and using various methods (suicide attacks, explosive devices, kidnappings and negotiations, shootings and more). In the decade since the end of the second Intifada, and since the death of Yasser Arafat and his replacement by Abu Mazen, there has been a significant lull in the number of terrorist attacks on Israeli soil, the wave of suicide attacks has subsided

Without underestimating the threat potential of the organization in light of its local achievements and murderous activities, it is worth understanding the wider context in which it has attained its achievements and strength.

Life is imitating art in Thailand — unfortunately for protesters, it’s the illegal three-fingered salute from the “Hunger Games” books and film series. After Thailand’s military council took power in a coup on May 22, it began cracking down on dissent in unique ways. It became illegal to read George Orwell’s “1984” in public or to wear shirts that say “Peace Please.” Now, the salute from “The Hunger Games” is off-limits, Business Insider reported Friday. The for-profit corporations that brought these cases to the Supreme Court—a craft store and a cabinet manufacturer—argued that the corporations’ religious convictions should excuse them from compensating their employees through the comprehensive health insurance required by law. Specifically, these private employers sought to exclude insurance coverage of several forms of birth control because, contrary to medical and scientific evidence, the corporations’ owners believe some birth control causes abortions.
