America’s expanding police state
Washington Times, by Tammy Bruce

With so much happening internationally and the number of scandals, crises and general screw-ups of the Obama administration here at home, it’s worth noting a disturbing development here on the domestic front: a rapidly expanding police state. On my radio program last week I had the pleasure of speaking with Cheryl Chumley, a reporter for The Washington Times, about her new book, “Police State USA: How George Orwell’s Nightmare is Becoming our Reality.” (Snip) Mrs. Chumley’s chapters in “Police State USA” provide a treatise on all the elements of society that are under attack as big government seeks to sustain

Comments:
I post a lot of articles from Cheryl Chumley here as she says plenty in limited space and is quite concise in her thinking.

Sadly, you can no longer trust the "cop on the corner." Too many cops are becoming drunk with power.

At the same time liberals tolerate a more lawless and violent society, because it helps justify a larger police state.

When I was growing up, the local cop was someone you could talk to. He was also the guy who kicked you in the pants and brought you home to your parents when he found you making mischief. I cannot relate to the camo-clad storm troopers in many of today´s police departments.

But the police are justified. They are abused by citizens; almost totally abandoned by laws, lawyers and the courts; and are generally unappreciated for doing a dangerous job. Would you want your son/daughter to be a cop? If you were Maureen Faulkner, would you want your husband Danny to be a cop?

Most of the cops I knew were only marginally on the the ´good´ side of the law as kids. Some weren´t even on that side at all.

Things really started going bad back in the 60s when the police took it upon themselves to wage war on the hippies. Of course before that the Southern cops were beating up on civil rights protestors, and they had always been beating blacks. Then civil review boards became fashionable, and later cops were spending all their time defending against "racial profiling" charges. Lately, the advent of the Napolitano Gestapo put cops in SWAT gear and had them training to kill conservatives.

Shots were fired this week near the U.S. border with Mexico, with a U.S. official saying they came from a Mexican law enforcement helicopter, something that a Mexican official denies. The Mexican helicopter crossed into Arizona and fired two shots near U.S. border agents, a U.S. law enforcement official said Friday. No one returned fire, and the helicopter returned to Mexico. No one was hurt in the incident, which happened about 6 a.m. local time Thursday about 100 yards into U.S. territory, the official said on condition of anonymity. However Murray, who garnered 5.2 percent of the vote, announced Wednesday he is not giving up without a fight and will contest the race. His reason? Caracas - A blackout cut power to much of Venezuela on Friday, snarling traffic in the capital Caracas and other major cities as authorities scrambled to restore electricity after the outage, which twice interrupted a presidential broadcast. Pedestrians streamed into the streets of Caracas as the blackout shuttered the underground metro trains and left frustrated drivers honking in the chaos without stoplights. Government ministers in the late afternoon said they expected power would be restored shortly. It was the second nationwide major electricity outage in less than a year. President Obama is now reaching terminal velocity, like a skydiver plunging toward earth. Except he doesn’t have a parachute. There’s a mighty splat coming soon. With his approval rating at 40 percent, down 6 points from early June, and just 29 percent of Americans convinced the country is on the “right track,” the president is doubling down on his strategy of blaming Republicans for his failures. And he’s shifting into hyperpartisan drive, traveling the country to campaign for Democrats, many of whom wish he’d just stay away. Worse, the news just keeps getting well, worse: The Veterans Affairs scandal is blazing, with

Lois Lerner, the controversial director of the tax-exempt organizations division at the Internal Revenue Service, has a long sordid history of targeting conservatives. But for his two-day excursion to Minnesota this week, the president boasted that he’s got little in the way of a formal agenda, has few firm plans, and warned Secret Service that he’s feeling “super loose” and could end up doing any number of things. “I don’t know. Republicans are in the strongest position to win back the Senate since losing it eight years ago. Over several months, the party has expanded its range of targeted seats, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has helped defeat insurgents it didn’t want representing the GOP in the midterm elections. This sober realization came to Democrats on Wednesday, as Tuesday night’s primary results showed they cannot count on Tea Party candidates upsetting more-electable incumbents. And Democrats are increasingly realizing that President Obama’s approval rating will probably remain mired at 45 percent or lower until

This would fly in the face of those who claim that immigration is an economic boon to native born Americans: The CIS report found that over the last 14 years, people who were born in the United States held 114.8 million jobs in 2000, and held 114.7 million jobs in 2014, a drop of 127,000.
