Chalabi’s Chance?
New York Sun, by Editorial

Well, well, well. Guess who has gone calling on Ahmad Chalabi. Why, if it’s not Brett McGurk, the senior aide of the State Department in respect of Iraq. He’s just fetched up at the home in Baghdad of the founder of the Iraqi National Congress. Mr. Chalabi is the visionary who won the Iraq Liberation Act of 1995. He’s the man whom the Left likes to blame for allegedly making up intelligence to trick America to going to war for Democracy in his country. The State Department hated him above all others. Now it’s come a-calling. This news was brought

Emails: IRS official sought audit

WASHINGTON -- Congressional investigators say they uncovered emails Wednesday showing that a former Internal Revenue Service official at the heart of the tea party investigation sought an audit involving a Republican senator in 2012. The emails show former IRS official Lois Lerner mistakenly received an invitation to an event that was meant to go to Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa. Grassley presumably received Lerner´s invitation. The event organizer apparently offered to pay for Grassley´s wife to attend the event. In an email to another IRS official, Lerner suggests referring the matter for an audit, saying it might be inappropriate for the

An anti-amnesty group is calling on its supporters to mail their “gently used” underwear to President Obama in protest over the flood of illegal immigration through the southern border. "Instead of using our tax money to buy illegals 42,000 pairs of new underwear, we would like to send the illegals and DC politicians a message by mailing them our used underwear, and some of our pairs are in really bad shape due to the bad economy and all of the jobs illegal immigrants are taking from Americans,” William Gheen, the president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) said.

From the announcement by Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) that Congress is considering filing a lawsuit against the Obama administration to the lawsuit against the IRS by the National Organization for Marriage, momentum is building for legal action against the corrupt and venal executive branch. Boehner’s lawsuit would be advisory in nature; the so-called “political question doctrine” often invoked by the Supreme Court generally prevents any judicial action against the executive branch when Congress’ prerogatives are trampled. George Will suggested this week that the law be changed to allow Congress standing against the president. But that is unlikely,

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) rescued 168 child victims of sex-trafficking and arrested 281 suspected pimps in its annual countrywide sex-trafficking crackdown last week. Operation Cross Country was carried out in 106 U.S. cities, according to an official FBI press release. This year´s effort marks the eighth time the FBI has carried out its national child sex-trafficking sting; since 2003, approximately 3,600 sexually exploited minors have been recovered as part of the agency´s Innocence Lost program. RICHMOND, Va. — A Virginia man who has fathered children with several women has agreed to get a vasectomy to reduce his prison term by up to five years in a child endangerment case that has evoked the country’s dark history of forced sterilization. None of the charges against Jessie Lee Herald, 27, involved a sexual offense. Three American friends have been taken to hospital after reportedly becoming ´possessed´ by evil spirits while playing with a Ouija board. Alexandra Huerta, 22, was playing the game with her brother Sergio, 23, and 18-year-old cousin Fernando Cuevas at a house in the village of San Juan Tlacotenco in south-west Mexico. But minutes into it, she apparently started ´growling´ and thrashing around in a ´trance-like´ state. Meanwhile, Sergio and Fernando also reportedly started showing signs of ´possession´, including feelings of blindness, deafness and hallucinations. Paramedics were called to the house and took the trio to hospital, according to Alexandra´s parents.

In just one month, the president´s job approval rating has shifted a full 9 points against him. Though Obama was still upside on approval by 5 points (43-48%) back in May, he now faces a 14 point deficit of 40-54%. With a surprisingly wide margin of victory, Congressman James Lankford won the Oklahoma Republican U.S. Senate primary, defeating former Speaker of the State House of Representatives T.W. Lankford now becomes the prohibitive favorite to replace outgoing Senator Tom Coburn, who is retiring with two years remaining in his current term. This was a very different race from the one taking place in Mississippi. Despite negative ads run against Lankford by conservative groups, the Oklahoma contest was not an example of an “establishment” Republican or RINO versus a Tea Party candidate. In

Women vote Democrat because they are smarter, Obama said to a White House audience Monday afternoon. He made the remark at the end of a talk at the White House Summit on Working Families. “Somebody asked: ‘Well, it’s well-known that women are more likely to vote for Democrats,’ to which I said, women are smarter,” Obama said. “This is true.” The rest of Obama’s talk centered on paid maternity leave, a minimum wage of $10.10, flexibility in the workplace, and access to childcare. He blamed Congress for moving slowly after he asked it to raise the minimum wage and when

Thad Cochran’s political resurrection began with a campaign shakeup and ended with a Hail Mary television ad. Just three weeks ago, in the dead of night on June 3, the Mississippi senator’s staff sat shaken and dejected, crestfallen at the results of a primary that deprived the six-term incumbent of an electoral majority. With Cochran forced into a runoff fight against an aggressive and energetic challenger, a dark mood shadowed his backers in Washington and Mississippi.Yet almost immediately, the Cochran coalition began bouncing back. Even on that gloomy night of June 3, Cochran adviser Stuart Stevens was insisting to staffers: “We’re

Senior Obama administration officials’ closed-door briefing to senators Tuesday night revealed that the White House did not anticipate and was not prepared for the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS), which has wreaked havoc in Iraq and seized many key cities in recent weeks. Top State Department and Defense Department officials joined senators Tuesday evening for a briefing on the quickly developing chaos in Iraq and future U.S. plans for a response. Sources familiar with the brief said that the administration officials repeated talking points issued over the past several days in both open and

National conservative groups are angry after incumbent Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran pulled off a victory in the state’s GOP run-off — likely because of his campaign’s outreach to Democratic voters. “It’s disgraceful that self-described GOP leaders like Mitch McConnell, John McCain, the Chamber of Commerce and the NRSC would champion a campaign platform of pork barrel spending and insider deal-making, while recruiting Democrats to show up at the polls,” Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks said after the results came in. Tuesday’s closely-watched run-off came after conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel edged Cochran in votes in the initial election earlier this month.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has had a rough time of it ever since she asserted that both she and her husband were “dead broke” and “struggled” after leaving the White House in 2001. “A few weeks before they left the White House, the Clintons were able to muster a cash down payment of $855,000 and secure a $1.995 million mortgage,” Politifact observed. “This hardly fits the common meaning of ‘dead broke.’” Clinton might have taken the public backlash over this minor gaffe in stride, but she didn’t.
