Making progress at whittling down a once-enormous debt, the Democratic National Committee on Friday reported it had reduced its level money owed to less than $5 million for the first time since July 2012. The DNC raised $8.6 million in May but still owed $4.9 million to vendors who produce campaign ads, mail and data providers. The central party also reported it had $7.9 million in the bank. The Republican National Committee also faced a Friday deadline to report its fundraising in May. The GOP´s central committee had not yet filed its forms. The DNC amassed significant debt as it spent

The Obama administration’s latest proposal to curb carbon emissions at existing power plants threatens to drive up energy costs, Murray Energy chief executive Robert Murray tells FOX Business Network’s Neil Cavuto. Murray and the company he founded have filed four lawsuits against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over regulations that target the coal industry. Four state attorneys general have joined those efforts. Earlier this week, Murray Energy sued the EPA over a new set of rules that aim to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions by 30% from 2005 levels. The proposed regulations raised more questions over the future of the coal industry and electricity

MADISON, Miss. —Ladies and gentlemen, the circus has come to Madison County. As the wild Republican Senate runoff here tumbles to a climax next week, what began as a bare-bones campaign against Sen. Thad Cochran has bloomed into a full-blown political carnival. Insurgent conservative Chris McDaniel, once viewed as a gadfly state legislator propped up by a lonely pair of well-funded national groups, is now at the center of a colorful and unwieldy activist entourage scrambling to grab a piece of his anticipated success. The names and faces crowding around McDaniel would be familiar to voters in any number of

Speaker John Boehner blasted the White House over a range of issues — from Iraq to the blooming scandals with Veterans Affairs and the Internal Revenue Service — saying the perception of a casual observer might be that the president doesn’t really have a clue. “You look at this presidency, and you can’t help but get the sense that the wheels are coming off,” Mr. Boehner said, The Hill reported. Mr. Boehner also pointed to Mr. Obama’s overseas policy as a particular failure — a view that seems to be shared by most of America, given recent poll numbers finding

Rep. Trey Gowdy took a time-out from the somber cause of politicking to tell a two-plus minute story of his recent dream that opened: Speaker John Boehner, Sen. Lindsey Graham and Maryland’s Rep. Andy Harris all died and went to Heaven. “I had a horrible dream last night,” he began, to a Maryland GOP crowd. “In my dream, John Boehner, Lindsay Graham and Andy Harris all tragically died and went to Heaven on the same day. It could happen, I guess … for two of them for sure.” So St. Peter approached and said, “Look, I know you’re big shots

Does the Left really need another organization whose sole purpose is to attack conservatives? Apparently so, according to David Brock, founder of Media Matters for America, head of the liberal American Bridge PAC and board member of the liberal Priorities USA Action. Brock is going to bring his special brand of bias to the re-launched American Independent Institute -- an obvious mock name considering it will be anything but independent. The goal of the institute will be to expose the “nexus of conservative power in Washington,” according to Dylan Byers of Politico. "Nexus of conservative power." Doesn´t that sound a

California regulators are investigating whether Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California have violated state law in connection to patients struggling to find doctors under Obamacare. Officials at the California Department of Managed Health Care said they are looking into whether consumers were misled by inaccurate provider lists and the difficulty some patients are still having at locating a physician in narrower networks statewide. "We began our review based on a pattern of complaints that came to our help center regarding provider access," agency spokeswoman Marta Green told The Times. Treasury Department officials said Friday that there´s no reason to believe that former IRS official Lois Lerner came to them with the tax agency´s improper scrutiny of Tea Party groups. To back that up, Treasury said it handed over a wide range of communications between Lerner and its own employees, as requested by GOP investigators, according to a letter obtained by The Hill. In that letter, Alastair Fitzpayne, a Treasury assistant secretary, told House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.) that there´s no evidence suggesting "Lois Lerner communicated with anyone at the Treasury Department" about the IRS´s treatment of

In an interview with The Daily Beast, the victim of Hillary Clinton’s first criminal client, an alleged rapist whom she successfully defended, spoke out against the 2016 hopeful’s women’s rights record. The victim, whom the Daily Beast did not name, was raped as a 12-year old by two men in an attack that left her in a coma for five days and hospitalized for months afterwards. Clinton, then a 27-year-old attorney in private practice, represented her alleged rapist in court, and reduced his sentence to one year in prison. Friday morning’s House Ways and Means Committee hearing quickly became tense when Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) and IRS commissioner John Koskinen got into a heated exchange over the agency’s alleged loss of two years worth of emails involving former official Lois Lerner. At the close of Koskinen’s prepared remarks, Camp immediately went for the gut in thanking the commissioner: “What I didn’t hear him from that was an apology to this committee.” “I don’t think an apology is owed,” Koskinen replied. And we’re off. “There’s not a single e-mail has been lost since the start of this investigation.” The back-and-forth

WASHINGTON — The White House said Wednesday it has found no emails between any person in the executive office of the president and a top Internal Revenue Service official who has been connected to the improper scrutiny of political groups. Hillary Clinton — the woman assumed to be the next Democratic Party presidential nominee and quite possibly the next president — is evidently a big snooze. According to Mediate, her interviews to promote her book on CNN and Fox had underwhelming numbers. In the case of Greta Van Susteren’s show, she sent people fleeing midway. More importantly, her book itself is a sales disappointment and, I would wager, even more disappointing if you could ascertain how many who did buy it read actually past page 15. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was in single digits. No, I haven’t read it
