IRS commissioner won´t
apologize for lost e-mails

USA Today, by Gregory Korte

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 6/20/2014 10:20:41 AM

WASHINGTON -- The commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service refused to apologize to Congress for losing e-mails related to its targeting of conservative groups, saying it´s still attempting to recover the data and it´s too soon to know how many e-mails are missing. "I don´t think an apology is owed," Commissioner John Koskinen told the House Ways and Means Committee. "Every e-mail has been preserved that we have." In his most contentious hearing since becoming commissioner six months ago, Koskinen testified about efforts the IRS has made to recover e-mails that were lost when Lois Lerner´s computer hard drive crashed

Comments:
Of course he won´t and he never will. The neverending audiacity of the Democrats is just stunning. Sandy Levin said there was no conspiracy behind the computer crash, but rather an e-mail system that was "entirely underfunded and wholly deficient." Un.be.lievable.

Those overworked, underpaid, patriotic tax collectors are the real victims here! They fuel the engines of our republic, and we just don´t appreciate them.

Email isn´t stored on hard drives. The sooner these no term limit dinosaurs in Congress learn what servers and raids are, the better. The simple fact that they bought this excuse to begin with proves they need a special investigation, because the longer the IRS has to cover up, the harder it will be ro prove.

They need to move in, toss out eveeyone, and lock the whole place down, and take it apart, one server at a time. In the meantime, every computer specialist, contractor, and employee needs to be arrested and charged with conspiracy to cover up a crime until one of them sings.

And trust me, one of them will, for immunity. No one will go to jail for that old fart. They also need to find out where they store date offsite, and do the same there. We all know who they are covering for. Time to end the games.

Paul Ryan is right, don´t believe them, but explain why not, and take some ACTION!

Could this be the reason for under funding. More than 318000 federal workers and retirees owe just over $3.3 billion in back taxes.

These hearings are televised for only one reason and that is to give the committee members political advertising. First, one side (this time the republicans) can wave their arms, make ridiculous statements and look as if they are doing their jobs. Then the other side (today it´s the democrats) make speeches about themselves and how caring they are. Once there is an issue that comes before that committee has been identified, an independent outside investigation should be started. Let real ´investigators´ look into it, ask appropriate questions, have subpoena power and treat it more as a legal investigation. This is all a dog and pony show and wastes everyone´s time.
The IRS proved today that it is willing to allow misinformation to be published, won´t correct it in a timely manner and then claim it is being fair, open and honest. I don´t know who looked more foolish: the congressmen or Koskinen and we pay these people to do a job. They should all be fired immediately.

Congress does not understand lawlessness. The IRS is out of reach of Congress. Shouting "I do not believe you" reflects a failure to understand the problem.

They need to subpoena HP techs that declared the hard drive unrecoverable.

I have never seen a hard drive where nothing could be recovered.

Recovery process typically involves removing the platters from the drive case and put the platters on a reader that can scan the discs and read anything that is there. If there was nothing there then it was because it was erased.

Completely erasing a hard drive is hard.
Re formatting does not erase it because it only writes a new table but the data is mostly still there.

The only way to erase the disk is to run a wipe disk program on it. It´s not something that is necessary in order to put the drive back into service. It´s a program that takes a long time to run on a hard drive. You can´t do it by accident. You can usually tell it to write over every sector a number of times with random data in order to make the data un retrievable. Did the HP techs find the hard drive had no data on it?

If the drive was encrypted then all that is needed is the password. Perhaps she forgot her password. But IT usually keeps that information. Servers are not usually encrypted since they are always kept behind guarded doors and don´t meet with the kind of risks that laptop drive encounter.

Congress doesn´t have much in the way of enforcement power without help from the executive branch. However, they could zero out the IRS budget until such time as they "magically" find the e-mails.

Face it. Our country, by our own definition is now a third world nation. Our president behaves illegally and elected congress does nothing but talk, dither, and cower. Our Supreme Court can be bought or extorted. Elected officials do nothing. Tax collecting is corrupt. Tough military people are assigned offices in broom closets while other, more ambitious brass wussify the ranks. In my lifetime I have seen patriotism, once a noble and natural sentiment denounced as "radical loon" behavior. Our government needs to be hosed out completely.

Where are the back ups? Backing up is part of a daily routine and is considered of the utmost importance in any business. I would think the government would consider backing up even more important, especially an agency such as the IRS which is in the business of proving they are right on a daily basis. You just don´t wipe out historical information where collecting money is concerned.

Just try telling the IRS they don´t know what they are talking about if they allege that you owe them more money. They will throw documents at you that date back years. So we are expected to believe that the IRS "lost" e-mails? Government systems have built-in redundancy because they know "s***" happens.

This is just business as usual for the IRS. Sat in a continuing education class offered by the state´s CPA society 30 years ago. Learned then that the IRS staff in several centers had an attitude problem and they SHREDDED EVERYTHING on their desks (Letter, returns, forms, inter-company correspondence). They fine us huge when we can´t product documents no matter how old, yet they get bonuses and promotions for incompetence.

The wrong question is being asked here. Of course the guy is going to say no to there being anything bad on the emails. The statement should have been: "Listen, you´re the IRS, part of the Federal Government. Emails are not kept on local hard drives, they´re kept on email servers which are backed up and archived. This is not a peer to peer network from 1984. There is no single hard drive crash in a government agency that can take someone´s entire email for two years away. Now, you have a choice sir...produce the emails or you´re going to jail."

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. On October, 2011, amid a lethargic economic recovery, President Barack Obama – a man who prided himself on ending wars, not starting them – touted his foreign policy successes. Early Sunday, Campbell, who was wanted for a previous murder, ambushed 23 year-old rookie officer Melvin Santiago outside of a Walgreen’s. According to authorities, Campbell, 27, allegedly told a by-stander, “Watch the TV news later, I’m going to be famous,” reports the New York Post. But the cold-blooded killing fostered little sympathy

Planned Parenthood staffers are using taxpayer money to instruct underage girls in dangerous and violent sex practices — including whipping, bondage and choking, according to a new video released by the anti-abortion group Live Action Tuesday. The uncensored footage obtained by The Daily Caller shows staffers telling investigators posing as underage girls to experiment with violent sex play in response to generic questions about sex. Staffers at two clinics in Colorado explain to the investigators that a variety of painful sex acts — including biting, chaining, gagging, whipping, choking, using nipple clamps, and more — are completely safe and normal

On April 1, the U.S. economy dropped a whopping 2.9 percent for the first three months of the year (no fooling). The American workforce participation rate fell to a 40-year low. One-third of people aged 18-29 have moved back in with their parents. Millions of Americans this summer will enjoy yet another “staycation”: They just can’t afford to go to the beach or the mountains, even for a week — again. (Snip) Forget that the United States is deep into what Mr. Obama dramatically declares a “humanitarian crisis,” that the Middle East is a powder keg about to blow, that Iraq has all but fallen to Islamist terrorists. (Why not forget; the president has.)

A Fox News exclusive reported this morning by Jana Winter inexplicably buried the lede. Winter reports that several dead children have been discovered “washed up along the riverbank” of the Rio Grande, but fails to note that there have been no reports by the Obama administration on this. This indicates a pattern of covering up dead illegal alien kids by the Obama administration. It was two weeks before news was reported on the sole child death acknowledged by the Obama administration, Gilberto Ramos, a 15 year-old boy from Guatemala whose body was found in the Texas brush dead from the

Professor Stephen Hawking is backing the academic boycott of Israel by pulling out of a conference hosted by Israeli president Shimon Peres in Jerusalem as a protest at Israel´s treatment of Palestinians. Hawking, 71, the world-renowned theoretical physicist and former Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, had accepted an invitation to headline the fifth annual president´s conference, Facing Tomorrow, in June, which features major international personalities, attracts thousands of participants and this year will celebrate Peres´s 90th birthday. Hawking is in very poor health, but last week he wrote a brief letter to the Israeli president to say he

The U.S. deported Honduran children as young as 1-1/2 years old on Monday in the first flight since President Obama pledged to speed up the process of sending back illegal immigrant minors from Central America. Fleeing violence and poverty, record numbers of children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala have crossed into the United States over the past year, sparking intense debate about how to solve the problem. Monday´s flight from New Mexico to San Pedro Sula, the city with the highest murder rate in the world, returned 17 Honduran women, as well as 12 girls and nine boys, aged

President Obama is “absolutely” the most transparent president in history, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Sunday after the White House received a letter from signed by a dozen top journalists’ groups complaining about the administration’s policies toward the media. “There are a number of steps that we´ve taken to give people greater insight into what´s happening at the White House,” Earnest said in an interview with CNN’s “Reliable Sources.” The letter, signed by the Society of Professional Journalists and the Poynter Institute, among others, accuses the White House of "politically driven suppression of news and information about federal agencies." First lady Michelle Obama grabbed the political reins during a speech to the League of United Latin American Citizens in New York City, telling the crowd of admirers not to worry — that her husband wouldn’t wait on Congress to take action on immigration reform. “So make no mistake about it — we have to keep on fighting as hard as we can on immigration,” Mrs. Obama said, to a cheering crowd, Breitbart reported. “And as my husband has said, he’s going to do whatever administrative action it takes to fix this broken system.” Mrs. Obama then vowed that Congress wouldn’t get

In remarks framed as a message to the American public, actor Jon Voight emotionally aired his political grievances for several minutes in a televised statement on Saturday. Those grievances range from (but are not limited to) Benghazi, the IRS scandal, the "targeting" of conservative filmmaker Dinesh D´Souza, illegal immigration, the Hobby Lobby Supreme Court case, the treatment of war veterans, the chaos in Iraq and deep reservations about President Obama. "Five years ago, I stated that Obama would take the country apart piece-by-piece, that he would cause a civil war in this country," Voight read on Saturday in a statement on

Inquiring minds wonder if there’s a “G” in the grading repertoire. And that does not stand for “good.” Pollster John Zogby has given President Obama an “F” this week for the White House performance on the global stage, and the researcher has no imminent good news for the president. “Some people have really bad weeks. Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff got an ‘F’ after the nation’s soccer team lost to Germany. But President Obama’s week was just as bad,” Mr. Zogby says. “Israel and the Palestinians are at war again. The president should have visited the U.S.-Mexican border, where so many immigrant children are in danger and so many

On July 16, comic character Archie Andrews, of Life With Archie, will die after being shot while protecting gay friend Kevin Keller. Keller is "Archie Comics´ first openly gay character." According to the Associated Press, Keller is "a married military veteran and newly elected senator who´s pushing for more gun control in Riverdale after his husband was involved in a shooting." Archie Comics´ publisher and co-CEO Jon Goldwater said the way in which Archie will die was carefully chosen. While he could have been killed saving "Betty" or saving "Veronica," doing so for Keller was something "that would really resonate

Attorney General Eric Holder said Sunday he and President Obama have been targets of “a racial animus” by some of the administration’s political opponents. “There´s a certain level of vehemence, it seems to me, that´s directed at me [and] directed at the president,” Holder told ABC. “You know, people talking about taking their country back. … There´s a certain racial component to this for some people. I don’t think this is the thing that is a main driver, but for some there´s a racial animus." Holder said the nation is in “a fundamentally better place than we were 50 years ago.” “We´ve

President Obama is known for being competitive on the basketball court, but he´s also apparently a cutthroat pool player. Gov. John Hickenlooper, D-Colo., told reporters at the National Governors Association meeting on Sunday that the president surprised him by beat him in two consecutive games. To add insult to injury, the two were playing at the Wynkoop Brewing Company, a bar that Hickenlooper co-founded. "You know I´ll tell ya -- the man is a shark," Hickenlooper told reporters, Time reports. "I was up a few balls. I felt pretty good. I was actually wondering whether how hard should I --

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security.
