A Disaster of His Own Making
National Review, by Charles Krauthammer

Yes, it is true that there was no al-Qaeda in Iraq when George W. Bush took office. But it is equally true that there was essentially no al-Qaeda in Iraq remaining when Barack Obama took office. Which makes Bush responsible for the terrible costs incurred to defeat the 2003–09 jihadist war engendered by his invasion. We can debate forever whether those costs were worth it, but what is not debatable is Obama’s responsibility for the return of the Islamist insurgency that had been routed by the time he became president.By 2009, al-Qaeda in Iraq had been not just decimated but

I love the Doc but this particular problem is the least of Americans´ problems right now, with a lawless POTUS and Congress running roughshod over us, willfully creating a dictatorship over which We The People have no power.

I´d like to hear the Doc´s suggestions on how to counter that, not Iraq´s problems. Our priority is not Iraq, it´s America. There is a vicious, brutal, hateful enemy in our midst and they´re in our own government.

I can´t get past the first paragraph. Usually I listen to what Charles Krauthammer has to say but the introduction turned me off right away.

Bush responsible for the terrible costs? Sorry, Charles, they came to our soil on September 11, 2001. They are responsible. It is the duty of the President to keep our country safe.

Obama seems to be missing out on that point.

The good doctor is correct in his description of the facts, but he fails to address the motive of our first marxist pResident. This is exactly the outcome zippy desired. The sending of 300 advisers (how JFK of him) is just the sop for appearances sake.

It would be nice if we had an opposition party.

300 soldiers is just a drop in the bucket. What are they going to use for their own security? What kind of support will they have? Are they going to be crowed together or be strung out where they can be picked off one at a time? Are they going to be a fighting force or just "advisors"? Lots of questions to ask and no one is giving answers. Solders can not fight in a vaccum. They require lots and lots of material support and the FULL SUPPORT OF THE C in C! Which they don´t have.

For any recovery in Iraq to work the people there would have to believe they can trust America to be consistent and never elect a doofus like Obama. His very presence in office is a drag on the whole nation not just now but something that will continue to overshadow even the best of presidents. How can we convince the world we would not make this mistake again when Obama still enjoys 40% approval? How can anyone approve of this disaster?

Those 300 were Spartans (Greeks), not Persians, #10.

Iraq is not a "disaster" either way at this point. We spent money and lives in a bad, bad investment to bring "freedom" to a society and culture that is conditioned to submit to religion and power, which are one and the same in most cases.

This doesn´t portend well. Every single "decision" that Val has made for Zero in the foreign policy arena has been, at best, a miserable failure.

We are putting 300 people into a city that has armed invaders coming in. Sunni Islamists are joining ISIL in the invasion. The Baghdad denizens hate us. And our people are not to enter combat (that better be for political consumption only).

What is Val going to do when our 300 people meet up with the invaders? Are we even going to be able to protect them?

When I was in the service, we could generally assume that when the higher ups sent us places, somebody somewhere had thought all this crap through for contingencies and such. It rarely, if ever, worked out the way they planned, but at least they tried. Now I get the feeling things are run solely out of the WH Political Office, and the military people aren´t even involved.

For President Barack Obama, the humanitarian crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border is increasingly becoming a political liability, giving Republicans a fresh opportunity to question his administration´s competence and complicating the debate over the nation´s fractured Still, Obama is resisting calls to visit the border during his two-day fundraising trip to Texas, where he arrives late Wednesday afternoon. Instead, Obama will hold a meeting hundreds of miles away in Dallas to discuss the crisis with faith leaders and Texas officials, including Republican Gov. Rick Perry. The Supreme Court led by Chief Justice John G. But they also set the stage for broader rulings, and liberals voiced concern about their long-term impact. Many rely on well-established rights, such as freedom of speech and free exercise of religion, but extend those rights for the first time to corporations, wealthy donors and

The White House on Tuesday formally requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to deal with an influx of Central American minors along the southern border. But the proposal was quickly met with broad skepticism among Republican lawmakers, who were doubtful that the package would be approved quickly — if at all. Administration officials said the request is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at building more detention centers, adding immigration judges, and beefing up border patrols and air surveillance. President Obama has said he hopes such steps will both speed deportations and discourage adults from sending children on

Rather, the aim is to display—if not actually engage in—a more deliberative process, even if amid controversy. Fate hasn´t been kind to Hillary Clinton, at least not in its most recent phase. In 2008, when the plate was set for the national Democrats, she lost the nomination to Barack Obama, of scant years and no gravitas, who soared out of nowhere to wrench destiny from her on the unspecified promise of "change." Now, "change" has come, and people don´t like it. Iraq changed from a safe, stable ally (just ask Obama) to a terrorist haven, one of the reasons why, though no fellow Democrats seem likely to edge her, her chances of winning the White House seem dim.
