Obama will send 300 ‘advisers’ to
Iraq, open to ‘targeted’ action

Washington Times, by Dave Boyer and Maggie Ybarra

President Obama said Thursday that he is sending up to 300 military advisers to Iraq to aid in the urgent fight against advancing Sunni militants, ramping up U.S. involvement in the country less than three years after he withdrew all American troops. Speaking after a White House meeting with his top national security advisers, Mr. Obama stopped short of ordering airstrikes against the insurgents but said he might take “targeted” action if necessary. The president emphasized that he won’t send U.S. troops back into combat in Iraq. “American combat troops are not going to be fighting in Iraq again,” Mr.

What is the Doofus-in-Chief going to order when people start shooting at his 300? He is a far cry from King Leonidas and will most certainly botch the whole operation.

Besides, we have been advising the Iraqis to defend their own country since 1991. They haven´t gotten the idea yet.

When Valerie Riviello, a nurse at a Veterans Affairs facility in New York, saw the clinic restrain a sexual assault survivor to a bed for seven consecutive hours, she released the woman. The next day, Ms. Riviello said, she was removed from her post as senior nurse manager and given a full-time desk job that prohibited her from contact with patients. She eventually was reprimanded and is facing a 30-day unpaid suspension for releasing the woman. Now, Ms. Riviello is one of more than 50 whistleblowers who say the Veterans Affairs Department retaliated against them for trying to do their

BAGHDAD — The extremist group battling its way through swaths of Iraq and Syria declared the creation of a formal Islamic state Sunday, building on its recent military gains and laying down an ambitious challenge to al-Qaeda’s established leadership. In an audio statement posted on the Internet, the spokesman for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria announced the restoration of the 7th-century Islamic caliphate, a long-declared goal of the al-Qaeda renegades who broke with the mainstream organization early this year and have since asserted control over large areas spanning the two countries. The move signifies “a new era of

In the 2012 election cycle, Democrats rallied around a Republican “war on women” narrative that often went without effective pushback from the GOP and arguably – combined with a far more sophisticated ground game – handed them control of the Senate, if not the White House. But on Monday, former Hewlett Packard CEO and 2010 California GOP Senate nominee Carly Fiorina will launch a new super PAC to focus on both issues, Breitbart News has learned. The UP Project, which stands for "Unlocking Potential," will seek to help Republicans win back the Senate by directly confronting Democrats and their "war

Writing in American Thinker about Megyn Kelly’s forthcoming interview with Bill Ayers, Karin McQuillan recalls something that I wrote in 2008, which I had completely forgotten. She refers to Ed Lasky; the first quote is McQuillan’s, the second is Lasky’s, and the third is mine: Ed Lasky’s many articles, including this one predicting an Obama Ayer’s-style radical assault on education (think Common Core) and another with the prophetic 2008 quote of Powerline’s John Hinderaker: Regarding the Obama campaign’s demands for a DoJ investigation of the 527 group ads criticizing his long association with Ayers, John Hinderaker at Powerline asks: Obama’s

Dear Secretary Clinton, Please consider this in the nature of a friendly intervention. You have a money problem. It’s time to deal with it before it gets worse. Actually, you have two money problems. The first is how you talk about it. The second is how you collect it — or, to be more precise, the fact that you’re still frenetically collecting it. Let me be clear at the outset: The issue isn’t that you’re rich, or even that you and your husband became rich after leaving office. American voters don’t have a problem with wealthy candidates or even wealthy ex-presidents

The tea party had waged wars against President Obama’s health-care plan and government spending. But in early 2012, it was beginning to sound its next battle cry, one that is now deepening the split within the Republican Party: “crony capitalism.” On the sixth floor of a Washington office building, Barney Keller, a 20-something communications director and researcher for the conservative group Club for Growth, was searching the Web for information about the Export-Import Bank. The little-known government agency provides tens of billions of dollars annually in financing to help foreign buyers purchase U.S. planes, trucks and other goods. Every few

Unanimity at the Supreme Court

For a panel that’s supposed to be irrecoverably partisan, the justices of the Supreme Court just did a pretty good job this week resolving divisive legal issues unanimously. On Thursday, the court settled an abortion-related free-speech case and then an executive-power question without a single dissent. This followed an important case where the justices agreed to restore lost Fourth Amendment protections for the digital age. Four years ago, President Obama planted the seeds of bitter discord with a remarkable broadside against the court in his State of the Union address. Liberal pundits dutifully followed his lead and played up disagreement

Millions of people disappear without a trace, leaving behind chaos and anarchy while a lone hero emerges to stand between mankind and the end of the world. For some, this is known as the Rapture, the preamble to the apocalypse. For Hollywood, it means a biblical blockbuster. “Jesus explicitly warned about ‘that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven,’” said Craig Detweiler, professor of communication at Pepperdine University. “But producers and directors can’t resist the temptation to speculate.” HBO on Sunday premieres its latest series, “The Leftovers,” based on the book of the same name

As part of the American Civil Liberties Union’s recent report on police militarization, the Massachusetts chapter of the organization sent open records requests to SWAT teams across that state. It received an interesting response. As it turns out, a number of SWAT teams in the Bay State are operated by what are called law enforcement councils, or LECs. These LECs are funded by several police agencies in a given geographic area and overseen by an executive board, which is usually made up of police chiefs from member police departments. In 2012, for example, the Tewksbury Police Department paid about $4,600

Republicans broadly share a belief in smaller government, but they are sharply divided over issues including perceptions of Wall Street, the power of big corporations, the value of immigration and free trade, according to a new study of the contours of the American electorate. The findings provide timely insight into the political battle that unfolded this week in Mississippi, where Republican Sen. Thad Cochran narrowly defeated conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel in a bitterly fought runoff that exposed the broader tensions within the GOP coalition. That election pitted the business and establishment wing of the Republican Party against the populist-conservative

The Supreme Court ruled unanimously Thursday that President Obama exceeded his constitutional authority in making high-level government appointments in 2012 when he declared the Senate to be in recess and unable to act on the nominations. Obama made appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) at a time when the Senate was holding pro forma sessions every three days precisely to thwart the president’s ability to exercise the power. “The Senate is in session when it says it is,” Justice Stephen G. Breyer wrote for the court, stressing that if the Senate is able to conduct business, that is

Facebook’s News Feed—the main list of status updates, messages, and photos you see when you open Facebook on your computer or phone—is not a perfect mirror of the world. But few users expect that Facebook would change their News Feed in order to manipulate their emotional state. We now know that’s exactly what happened two years ago. For one week in January 2012, data scientists skewed what almost 700,000 Facebook users saw when they logged into its service. Some people were shown content with a preponderance of happy and positive words; some were shown content analyzed as sadder than average.

The Keystone Pipeline project was expected to create tens of thousands of high paying jobs in the oil industry. The project itself would create 20,000 construction jobs. And the pipeline would bring oil from Canada and North Dakota to refineries in the United States. The proposed project would have extended from Alberta, Canada to Illinois, transporting approximately 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Estimated cost is $1.7 billion. But Obama rejected the plan in 2011 and 2014. Democrats are beholden to the radical green movement – the poor and middle class be damned. Now this… Canada pulled the plug on Keystone and will

Here, in another exclusive excerpt, Klein describes how Bill’s health is a preoccupation of the Clintons. A pair of black, armor-plated SUVs swung into a suburban cul-de-sac and crunched to a stop in the driveway of the Clintons’ home in Chappaqua, New York. A wall of burly Secret Service agents jumped out and surrounded the man who emerged from the lead vehicle. It was mid-summer 2013, and Bill Clinton looked shrunken and weary.

President Obama will ask Congress to provide more than $2 billion in new funds to control the surge of illegal Central American migrants at the South Texas border, and to grant broader powers for immigration officials to speed deportations of children caught crossing without their parents, White House officials said on Saturday. Mr. Obama will send a letter on Monday to alert Congress that he will seek an emergency appropriation for rapidly expanding border enforcement actions and humanitarian assistance programs to cope with the influx, which includes record numbers of unaccompanied minors and adults bringing children. As thousands of disease-riddled criminals storm across our borders, is it really time to mince words? President Obama appears to have an Agenda for America that stinks worse than a Border Patrol bus depot crammed with urine-drenched illegals. Is the man trying to protect and defend us, or does he want us to kick the bucket, run down the curtain, and join the choir invisible? On January 29, 2014, the Department of Homeland Security advertised for a vendor to escort 65,000 “unaccompanied alien children,” indicating that they not only knew the alien invasion was coming, they planned it.

Hillary Clinton is just too unlikable (remember that Barack Obama called her “likable enough” in one of the most memorable back handed compliments of recent political memory), and too transparently greedy, self-serving, and out of touch. Not to mention the appalling foreign affairs crises the United States faces in the wake of her term as Secretary of State. Her brand is tarnished. Facing a horrific expansion of terrorism in the Mideast, a meltdown of public support at home and major rebukes by the Supreme Court, the president remains fixated on No. 1. “I’m finding lately I just want to say what’s on my mind,” he told a Minneapolis audience Friday, and then ticked off a series of complaints about — surprise — Republicans. “They don’t do anything, except block me and call me names,” he said. “If they were more interested in growing the
