Oversight Report: Obama’s
Use of ‘Bully Pulpit’ Led

WASHINGTON – A House committee report maintains that the rhetoric used by President Obama in disparaging the nation’s campaign finance system impelled the Internal Revenue Service to undertake an extensive review of the tax status of conservative groups. The report compiled by the staff of the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee, “How Politics Led the IRS to Target Conservative Tax-Exempt Applicants for their Political Beliefs,” claims the president’s use of the “bully pulpit” led the IRS to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, leading to often lengthy delays in the process. According to the report, Obama’s public blistering of the U.S.

Comments:
How much did this cost the taxpayers when it´s obvious that´s what led to the targeting of conservative groups. That was the cue to the IRS. Of course Elijah Cummings states that it is: “partisan,” and fails to show “any White House involvement or political motivation in the screening of tax-exempt applicants.” I wish they would quit wasting time on reports and go after these criminals with a vengeance.

Note to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. The IRS did not act on its own because they were influenced by White House rhetoric. They were directed and it was coordinated, as is the cover-up. Is this the best you can do?

Top Senate Democrats are sick of waiting for the House to take up comprehensive immigration reform. If Republicans don’t act in July, President Obama will, they warn. After all, he still has a pen and phone, right? Via The Hill: "We´re at the end of the line," Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) said Thursday during a press briefing in the Capitol. "We´re not bluffing by setting a legislative deadline for them to act. "Their first job is to govern," Menendez added, "and in the absence of governing, then you see executive actions." Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) piled on. (Snip) White House

Republicans on the Hill cheered the 9-0 Supreme Court decision that found President Obama’s January 2012 appointments to the National Labor Relations Board were unconstitutional, while the top Democrat in the Senate maintained that the White House was in the right. Obama branded them “recess appointments,” but the Senate was actually in pro-forma session at the time. In September of that year, 41 GOP senators filed an amicus brief in support of the case brought against the presidential appointments. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled the appointments of Sharon Block and Richard Griffin were unconstitutional

Politics: After she destroyed Arthur Andersen in a flawed and subsequently overturned prosecution, the Senate has confirmed Leslie Caldwell to lead the DOJ´s criminal division, giving her a mandate for even more mayhem. You´d think someone who had thrown 85,000 people out of work, as this former Enron task force chief prosecutor did in her indictment of Arthur Andersen, before the whole thing was thrown out by a 9-0 Supreme Court, would go quietly from the public spotlight. Not so with Caldwell, a notoriously anti-business activist who in concert with the Obama White House is instead failing upward. Her appointment over 700

Charles Krauthammer sat down with Greta Van Susteren tonight to react to the Supreme Court decision limiting President Obama‘s power of recess appointments. Krauthammer said Obama knows he’s “beyond the bounds” of the office, but at this point he feels he can “abuse the Constitution” if he needs to. The 9-0 decision, he said, was a “major rebuke” to Obama which stated nothing more than if the Senate says it’s not in recess, it’s not in recess. And the fact the Supreme Court ruled this way suggests to Krauthammer that John Boehner‘s lawsuit against the president over executive actions “might

After days of getting hammered by Republican members of Congress on Capitol Hill over the last few days, IRS Commissioner John Koskinen sat down with Wolf Blitzer on The Situation Room Thursday afternoon and attempted to defend his agency’s reaction to the scandal involving Lois Lerner’s missing emails. “I apologize to anybody who had their applications held up needlessly,” Koskinen said. everybody needs to be confident that the IRS is going to treat them fairly, Republicans, Democrats, whatever organization they belong to. It’s a serious matter.” Blitzer honed in on the question of the missing emails, getting Koskinen to agree that

The Supreme Court this week admonished the Environmental Protection Agency for overreaching in regulating greenhouse gases. The Clean Air Act covers polluters that emit 250 tons per year (or in some cases, 100 tons). This standard makes no sense if applied to greenhouse gases. Thousands of establishments from elementary schools to grocery stores would be, absurdly, covered. So the EPA arbitrarily chose 100,000 tons as the carbon dioxide threshold. That´s not "tailoring," ruled the Supreme Court. That´s rewriting. Under our Constitution, "an agency has no power to ´tailor´ legislation to bureaucratic policy goals by

NBC Senior White House Correspondent Chuck Todd´s Nixonian defense of the IRS earlier this week was so intellectually dishonest and filled with lies of omission, regardless of your political beliefs, no intellectually honest person can watch without marveling at the mendacity. In a mere 90 seconds during a segment called "My Take" on his MSNBC show "The Daily Rundown," Todd used his admittedly impressive political and analytical skills to mislead his audience into believing the IRS scandal is something it´s not. Let´s start at the beginning, with Todd´s statement that "the question [of the IRS scandal] at hand is whether

Henry M. Paulson, Jr. should be remembered as U.S. Secretary of the Treasury during the 2008 economic crisis. He saw to it that favored banks received government bailouts costing the American people plenty. Along with a group of economic experts, he insisted that some financial institutions were “too big to fail.” According to his style of thinking, there aren’t any economic laws; there are only opportunities to increase government domination of the nation’s economic life. In the June 22nd New York Times, Paulson transformed himself from economic wizard to climate expert. Because he has experience poorly combating an economic crisis, he

Congressional investigators say they uncovered emails Wednesday showing that a former Internal Revenue Service official at the heart of the Tea Party targeting scandal also sought to audit Republican Senator Chuck Grassley in 2012. According to the emails, former IRS official Lois Lerner mistakenly received an invitation to an event that was meant for the Iowa Senator. An event organizer had offered to pay for Grassley´s wife, Barbara Ann, to attend the event. In an email to other IRS officials, Lerner suggests referring the matter for an audit. ´Perhaps we should refer to exam?´ Lerner wrote in a December 4,

Thad Cochran’s political resurrection began with a campaign shakeup and ended with a Hail Mary television ad. Just three weeks ago, in the dead of night on June 3, the Mississippi senator’s staff sat shaken and dejected, crestfallen at the results of a primary that deprived the six-term incumbent of an electoral majority. With Cochran forced into a runoff fight against an aggressive and energetic challenger, a dark mood shadowed his backers in Washington and Mississippi.Yet almost immediately, the Cochran coalition began bouncing back. Even on that gloomy night of June 3, Cochran adviser Stuart Stevens was insisting to staffers: “We’re

The former sexting pol has been noticeably absent at recent public events attended by Abedin, including the Gordon Parks Foundation Awards Dinner in Manhattan earlier this month. President Obama is now reaching terminal velocity, like a skydiver plunging toward earth. Except he doesn’t have a parachute. There’s a mighty splat coming soon. With his approval rating at 40 percent, down 6 points from early June, and just 29 percent of Americans convinced the country is on the “right track,” the president is doubling down on his strategy of blaming Republicans for his failures. And he’s shifting into hyperpartisan drive, traveling the country to campaign for Democrats, many of whom wish he’d just stay away. Lois Lerner, the controversial director of the tax-exempt organizations division at the Internal Revenue Service, has a long sordid history of targeting conservatives. Under the direction of Lois Lerner, the Federal Election Commission sued the Christian Coalition in the 1990s. She harassed the Christian Coalition for three election cycles. Eventually, she lost her case. At one point Lerner even asked a targeted conservative if Pat Robertson prayed over him. (Sound familiar?) In 1996, while at the FEC, Lois Lerner harassed Republican Senate candidate Al Salvi and made him this outrageous offer, “Promise me you will never run for office again, and

Republicans are in the strongest position to win back the Senate since losing it eight years ago. Over several months, the party has expanded its range of targeted seats, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has helped defeat insurgents it didn’t want representing the GOP in the midterm elections. This sober realization came to Democrats on Wednesday, as Tuesday night’s primary results showed they cannot count on Tea Party candidates upsetting more-electable incumbents. And Democrats are increasingly realizing that President Obama’s approval rating will probably remain mired at 45 percent or lower until

National conservative groups are angry after incumbent Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran pulled off a victory in the state’s GOP run-off — likely because of his campaign’s outreach to Democratic voters. “It’s disgraceful that self-described GOP leaders like Mitch McConnell, John McCain, the Chamber of Commerce and the NRSC would champion a campaign platform of pork barrel spending and insider deal-making, while recruiting Democrats to show up at the polls,” Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks said after the results came in. Tuesday’s closely-watched run-off came after conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel edged Cochran in votes in the initial election earlier this month.
