A missing Valrico teen has been located in Louisiana, in critical condition with multiple stab wounds, and the registered sex offender from Georgia she was with is in custody this morning after a 40-mile high-speed chase with law enforcment. Ashley Lyon, 16, was found after someone at a Grosse Tete, La., truck stop recognized her and Steven Myers, 41, from national media coverage about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and called authorities, officials said. Myers was apprehended on westbound Interstate 10 in Lafayette about 1 a.m. today after the pursuit and taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for what

Comments:
There was a nationwide arrest warrant for the child predator Myers, who apparently tried to kill the girl when he realized the police were in pursuit. It´s too bad the Lafayette, Louisiana police didn´t gun him down on the spot. Pray for his Ashley, his victim.

Mr. Myers will soon learn that Angola is beautiful this time of year.

2 places you never want to be in prison Angola, Louisiana and Huntsville, Texas. Few people leave either place standing up.

There are two sorts of stock human dramas that play out in every age of history. The first concerns people who were once rich but are now discovering they are poor. The second is their opposite; people who were once poor who suddenly realize they are rich. Years ago there were riveting accounts in a Manila newspaper about a man, whose surname was a byword for inherited wealth, pathetically resisting eviction from his ancestral home. The man — who gave his occupation as artist — sat disconsolate in the driveway of his former home, surrounded by his books, records and memorabilia, refusing the court order to leave until hunger and the

Historians commonly date the birth of Western civilization from the Greek development of mathematics. Greek mathematics was first point of view able to regard the world as potentially comprehensible. (Snip) The Boko Haram’s AK-47s; al-Qaeda’s hijacked airliners, the humvees of ISIS, and perhaps the dirty nuclear bomb of some Jihadi militant — are objects put to creative use by people none of whom can build them from first principles. Samuel Johnson once observed that second marriages were the “triumph of hope over experience”. Johnson might just as well have been talking about life in general. (Snip) But it’s not as if Obama has forgotten Russia. He’s apparently come up with a sure-fire scheme of reducing tensions with Moscow. “U.S. Eliminates Multi-Warheads on All Ground-Based Nuclear Missiles,” says the Global Security Newswire. That should mollify Putin and signal that America has no aggressive intentions. That’s his style. Obama likes to telegraph inaction. He ruled out military action in Ukraine, ruled out ground troops in Iraq and is now ruling out

Michelle Wie won the United States Women’s Open at Pinehurst No. 2 by two strokes on Sunday to capture the first major title of her career. Wie shot a final round 70 to finish at two-under-par 278 to beat out Stacy Lewis, who posted a 66. The title is the first for Wie, 24, a fixture on the United States Golf Association scene since qualifying for the Women’s Amateur at age 10. Her best Open finish was a tie for third in 2006, but she had not cracked the top 10 in nine previous starts. Twice she withdrew (2007 and

Myself, I’m a Diet Coke guy, and I can’t even picture myself switching to Pepsi. It’s almost pathological for me, part of my world view for some reason. Maybe you have the same rock-solid brand affinity for Pampers vs. Huggies, or Crest vs. Colgate. This thought came to mind as I was totally geeking out and reading some social psychology research about why people will stick to certain beliefs, even if presented with facts that prove their preconceived notions were incorrect. Turns out, we humans just don’t change our minds much, no matter how we like to think of ourselves

Perhaps the better question is to ask why it should not become general for the same reasons that Slaughter already described. Whether in Eastern Europe or Asia, the same practice of neglect can be observed. In each place Obama has lit a pressure chamber and the steam has to go somewhere. PORTLAND, Maine — A report that scientists are calling one of the most comprehensive studies of great white sharks finds that their numbers are surging in the ocean off the Eastern U.S. and Canada after decades of decline — bad news if you´re a seal, but something experts say shouldn´t instill fear in beachgoers this summer. The study by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, published this month in the journal PLOS ONE, says the population of the notoriously elusive fish has climbed since about 2000 in the western North Atlantic. The scientists behind the study attribute the resurgence to

TALLAHASSEE — Since leaving the governor’s mansion in 2010, Democrat Charlie Crist has more than doubled his net worth, with much of the money coming from prestigious positions and consulting contracts he received from large political donors. Some were helping Crist build his net worth while knowing that the Republican-turned-independent-turned-Democrat likely would run again for governor. In 2010, Crist listed his net worth at $466,063, a number that has jumped to $1.2 million, according to financial disclosure forms he filed Tuesday when submitting his official paperwork to get on the ballot as a candidate for governor. NBC’s Chuck Todd looks at the president’s polling and concludes it is disastrous for Obama, though not necessarily for for the Democratic Party. It is one of a series of messages disassociating the fortunes of the liberal enterprise from the collapsing presidency. The new point of departure is cooperating with Iran. Hillary Clinton´s multimillion dollar fortune has caused some negative headlines during the media tour for the release of her new book "Hard Choices," which is widely seen as a prelude to a potential 2016 presidential campaign. "They don´t see me as part of the problem," Clinton said of Americans who are upset about income inequality, adding, "Because we

‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T,” the song goes. It is easy enough to spell, but for some vocal critics of President Barack Obama, it seems exceedingly hard to do. As the president moves toward the land of the lame ducks, his political enemies are calling for blood. That’s no shocker at this stage of a presidency. In this case, the cuts go deeper. For some, it is not enough to disagree. Some high-status public figures seem determined to demean, denigrate and ridicule the president of the United States. On June 12 the Speaker of the U.S. House stepped to a podium and insulted Obama for his handling of

Noted management expert and Internal Revenue Service Commissioner John Koskinen was apparently called out of retirement — like the Ted Williams of evasive, unapologetic bureaucrats — to destroy what is left of his agency’s credibility. At immediate issue is two years of subpoenaed e-mails from former IRS official Lois Lerner to outside agencies, lost in a convenient computer crash. The possible involvement of other agencies is one focus of a congressional investigation into the heightened IRS scrutiny of conservative nonprofit groups before the 2012 election. In recent congressional testimony, Koskinen admitted that the e-mails

There are times that I have senior moments and forget certain names and events but after the recent Obama Iraq war implosion, I´m convinced most political pundits are suffering from them as well. What is unusual is that this revision of history is being committed by conservatives who should know better. Recent commentary by Glenn Beck, George Will and Charles Krauthammer indicate that they have significant memory lapses about why we went to war in Iraq. They now suggest that it was a wrong decision whereas my complaint is that we took too long to invade and oust Saddam Hussein.

Women vote Democrat because they are smarter, Obama said to a White House audience Monday afternoon. He made the remark at the end of a talk at the White House Summit on Working Families. “Somebody asked: ‘Well, it’s well-known that women are more likely to vote for Democrats,’ to which I said, women are smarter,” Obama said. “This is true.” The rest of Obama’s talk centered on paid maternity leave, a minimum wage of $10.10, flexibility in the workplace, and access to childcare. He blamed Congress for moving slowly after he asked it to raise the minimum wage and when

US Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived in Iraq´s capital, Baghdad as Sunni insurgents expand their control of towns across north-western Iraq. In Egypt on Sunday, Mr Kerry warned that Sunni militants Isis´ "ideology of violence and repression is a threat not only to Iraq but to the entire region". On Sunday rebels--spearheaded by Isis militants--captured border crossings to Syria and Jordan. The strategically important airport in the northern Tal Afar has also fallen. The town controls the main road from the Syrian border to Mosul, Iraq´s second biggest city, which was captured by the rebels two weeks ago.
