The West will pay for losing its
backbone in Iraq and Ukraine

Telegraph [UK], by Lord Powell

Original Article

Posted By:Attercliffe, 6/19/2014 6:12:17 AM

´Has the West gone soft?” That is the question I and others were asked to address yesterday at the Margaret Thatcher Conference on Liberty, hosted by the Centre for Policy Studies--and given recent events in Iraq, it is a question that is more urgent than ever. [Snip] But there has also been an avoidable decline in the West’s will to act--in short, our backbone. There is none of the passion, none of the moral sense that inspired foreign policy in the time of Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan. We are not driven by the desire to see freedom triumph.

Comments:
There´s a bio of Lord Powell at Wikipedia.

"He served as a key foreign policy advisor to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher during the 1980s" among other things.

Note to a friend, November 9, 2012: "Here is my prediction: Mr. Obama will continue to put the U.S. in a diminished and, yes, subservient position in the world. He will continue to say appealing things in public and go on TV with his flash smile. But what he does behind the scenes will be a very different matter."

We remain under Mr. Obama´s spell. And yes, Lord Powell, we have "gone soft."

The West is being led now mostly by pacifist and wimps, only interested in social issues and short-term personal glory. Luckily we had real leaders during WWII, so we at least had a good 50-60 year run.

The reason we lost is because the majority voted for Obama so they can get their Liberal UTOPIA FANTASY and/or GOV CHECKS.....they didn´t give a darn about millions of innocent lives that would be affected and millions who would die in wars and results from destruction of our economy...like the Veteran´s Administration and Hospitals running out of money and doctors retiring because the gov has made it impossible for them to work with this insanity...so people will die as a result. I could go on and on. MADMEN can be found anywhere at any time who are more than willing to takeover control...and YOU STUPID VOTERS gave the MADMEN that power. As a result of your stupidity.......you have innocent blood on your hands and If you even make it into heaven, you will have to give account for your deeds. Revelation 20.

World leaders are very concerned about climate change, not so much concerned that there is a cancer spreading throughout the whole world that is about to consume it. Until we can define the enemy truthfully and understand their stated goals, we are impotent to form a strategy to defeat them. Our enemies know it and use it to their advantage. They know it is just a matter of time until they defeat the West. Once we went down the road with the philosophy of waging war with a politically correct mindset, they knew they had the advantage. They are not dumb, they are determined to recreate the caliphate and I am not sure if the West has the will to stop them.

Crying over spilled milk won´t do any good other than to be a reminder that the softening of America´s resolve began in the 60´s with "Flower Power", New Age flabbiness of resolve, and the dumbing down of the educational system. Then came the introduction of "new math", "conflict resolution", "grief counseling", and the end of academic and sports competition.

The softening took on new and greater power with the elimination of winners and losers, paving the way toward mediocrity in children who grew up to be mediocre adults with a sense of entitlement and no sense of the pride that comes with doing a job better than others.

This cultural decay over the decades has also resulted in the feminization of the American male and the attendant reluctance to make difficult decisions; the easy way out became the testosterone-free way out. Obama is a prime example of this - don´t make any hard choices unless someone else can take the blame if they go south.

Add to this the removal of strong moral virtues and eternal verities like honor and patriotism, accomplished by removing God from the schools and from public life. Then top it off with the West´s "backbone" becaming godless, relativistic, multi-cultural pabulum, and thereby diluted.

We have lost America´s can-do spirit and her uniquely-American determination.

The West´s backbone is now in traction and unless we start back into some serious strength-training, we are truly osteoporotic and wheelchair-bound.

I don´t understand lack of spine.

No one in the White House or Congress have to face enemies, yet they lack the spine to do anything about it. The men who get sent to confront the enemies of America actually face the enemy and yet do not lack spine.

Somebody actually explain it to me

OK, #10, since you asked, I´ll explain it to you.

In order to have spine, one must: (a) have principles, (b) that are worth dying for, and (c) recognize enemies who must be killed in order to protect those principles and all who believe in them.

Ergo, nobody in the White House or in Congress satisfies those 3 conditions, so they lack spine. This is also known as the Political Invertebrate Phenomenon.

Poster #8 has a great post outlining just what is happening in the world today. And to answer #10´s question, you have to realize that members of congress´s, both houses, higest priority is to get re-elected. As such, they will go great lengths to convince voters just how great a person is and how much freebies they are going to provide to them. I ask, just where is this once great nation heading? And is there anyway to change course back to what once was?
