Independent Journal Review, by Justen Charter

With all the news surrounding a U.S. patent office cancellation of the Washington Redskins’ trademarks, effectively forcing the team to change its name, I got to wondering, “Where does it end?” All across the nation, Americans are cheering for sports teams that have mascots that would be deemed offensive by the Obama administration’s terms. If they can get away with bullying the Redskins just because its name offends a few people, then what’s stopping them from pursuing the others? Here are 20 sports teams whose names are as laughably “offensive” as the Redskins, and what we think the PC Police

Solar-panel maker shuts down

A Toledo solar-panel manufacturer has shut down and dozens of employees are out of work. Xunlight Corp., a flexible solar-panel manufacturer that uses technology developed at the University of Toledo and is based on Nebraska Avenue, closed its doors June 30 to “resolve some matters,” CEO John Buckey said. Mr. Buckey declined to elaborate on the cause of the shutdown, but a letter provided to The Blade that appears to have been sent by Mr. Buckey to employees on July 2 said the company is closing and makes no reference to any potential reopening. “Unfortunately, payments that were committed to

Texas Gov. Perry: Illegal immigrant

Fox News, by Staff    Original Article

(Video) Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Wednesday on “Hannity” that President Obama needs to act now to stop the surge in illegal immigrants flooding across his state’s border, calling it “a humanitarian crisis that he has the ability to stop.” The Republican governor spoke out after meeting with Obama in Texas Wednesday afternoon. Both sides called the meeting “constructive” and said they agreed philosophically. However, Perry said he is concerned that Obama did not indicate he will take the immediate action he requested: to use his power as commander-in-chief to send the National Guard to secure the border. “You know,

The Border Crisis Is Obama’s Hurricane
Katrina? Don’t Be Ridiculous!

Some (including some Democrats) are saying that the crisis on the Southwestern border is President Obama’s Hurricane Katrina. But there are at least two fundamental differences between the illegal immigration fiasco and Katrina. First, the response to Hurricane Katrina was actually the largest and the fastest response to any natural disaster in history, as Popular Mechanics, as I recall, later documented. Second, President Bush didn’t cause the hurricane. The current disaster is entirely attributable to Barack Obama’s willful refusal to enforce the immigration laws, in violation of his oath of office. Is Obama’s subversion of the nation’s laws an impeachable offense?

So, how did President Obama´s meeting with Republican Governor Rick Perry go today? In a statement on Wednesday, Obama described the meeting as "constructive," but, well, this photo also exists. It´s not immediately clear what the context of this photo was — Is Perry sad? Uncomfortable? Telling a funny story? Happy, but trying to look serious? Hmm. Perhaps someone made a joke at Perry´s expense? Or maybe Perry just makes the Robert De Niro shrug face a lot for no reason. Anyway, it doesn´t matter right now. Until we know more about the context, the photo will be a Rorschach

So just who is in charge in Barack Obama´s White House? ABC´s Jonathan Karl on Tuesday asked White House press secretary why the letter from the White House to Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) inviting him to a meeting with President Obama regarding the Texas border crisis was from Valerie Jarrett. While it´s routine for staff to draft such letters for elected officials, matters of such magnitude and to other elected officials of stature are almost always in the name of the principle. The president´s spokesman, when asked why the letter was from Jarrett rather than the President, said "Valerie spends a

Embattled former Internal Revenue Service senior executive Lois Lerner cautioned colleagues against including comments in official emails that might be seen by Congress. "I was cautioning folks about email and how we have several occasions where Congress has asked for emails and there has been an electronic search for responsive emails — so we need to be cautious about what we say in emails," Lerner said in an April 9, 2013, email to IRS technology staff member Maria Hooke and Nannette Downing, manager of the IRS Exempt Organizations Exam Unit. Screenwriter James Vanderbilt will make his directorial debut with the film, which will also star Cate Blanchett. Robert Redford has signed on to play Dan Rather in Truth, a film based on the 2005 memoir Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power. The book, written by Rather´s producer Mary Mapes, centers on the firestorm that erupted in September of 2004 after Rather reported that George W. Bush had received special treatment while serving in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War, a report that was based on documents that turned out to be forgeries.

The Obama administration posted a notice Wednesday of its intention to rebuild the White House bowling alley with “green” materials, but cancelled the notice later in the day. The General Services Administration said in a notice posted online at 11:04 a.m. that it was looking to rebuild the two lanes located in the Eisenhower office building adjacent to the West Wing. But the notice was abruptly canceled at 4:05 p.m., after the proposed renovations were the subject of several news articles. WASHINGTON — Gov. Rick Perry’s border summit with the president will take place in the most exclusive chopper in all the land, as Marine One whisks them across Dallas. Perry, one of Barack Obama’s loudest antagonists, requested a meeting on Monday during the president’s two-day Texas visit and pointedly pre-rejected any “quick handshake on the tarmac.” White House spokesman Josh Earnest revealed moments ago that this would indeed be no pedestrian encounter. “The president and Gov. DENVER — President Obama is traveling to Texas on Wednesday and will come face-to-face with liberal and conservative critics of his government’s handling of a humanitarian crisis on the southern border, including Gov. Rick Perry. Just a day after Mr. Obama asked Congress for nearly $4 billion to address the influx of unaccompanied children, aides continue to say the president will not travel the extra distance to the Texas-Mexico border to see the detention centers where thousands of Central American immigrants have been held. He will, however, attend a previously planned immigration meeting in Dallas, as well as Democratic fund-raisers

The White House on Tuesday formally requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to deal with an influx of Central American minors along the southern border. But the proposal was quickly met with broad skepticism among Republican lawmakers, who were doubtful that the package would be approved quickly — if at all. Administration officials said the request is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at building more detention centers, adding immigration judges, and beefing up border patrols and air surveillance. President Obama has said he hopes such steps will both speed deportations and discourage adults from sending children on

Sarah Palin on Tuesday joined a growing chorus of Republicans calling for the impeachment of President Obama, writing in a Breitbart op-ed that the influx of young illegal immigrants over the southern border "is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, ´no mas.´ " Mixed/careless metaphors aside, this is nothing but bad news for Republicans — especially four months until the 2014 election. Palin is hardly the first GOP politician to raise the issue of impeachment over the past couple years. Others include Sens. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Reps. Starting next week, House Republicans will launch a highly visible—and likely tumultuous—three-week process of bringing to the floor legislation to authorize their promised lawsuit against President Obama over his use of executive actions. "In theory, you could report out a resolution tomorrow and vote on it," said a House GOP aide on Tuesday. "But that is not the approach [the leaders] want to take." Rather, the aim is to display—if not actually engage in—a more deliberative process, even if amid controversy. This drawn-out script builds toward a potentially dramatic floor vote held just days, or even hours, before the House adjourns on

Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis. The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns. But as the

WASHINGTON — Congressional Democrats said Tuesday that they had developed legislation to override the Supreme Court decision on contraceptives. The bill would ensure that women have access to coverage for birth control even if they work for businesses that have religious objections. The bill, developed in consultation with the Obama administration, would require for-profit corporations like Hobby Lobby Stores to provide and pay for contraceptive coverage, along with other preventive services, under the Affordable Care Act. The measure could be on the Senate floor as early as next week, Senate Democrats said. “Your health care decisions are not your boss’s

Fate hasn´t been kind to Hillary Clinton, at least not in its most recent phase. In 2008, when the plate was set for the national Democrats, she lost the nomination to Barack Obama, of scant years and no gravitas, who soared out of nowhere to wrench destiny from her on the unspecified promise of "change." Now, "change" has come, and people don´t like it. Iraq changed from a safe, stable ally (just ask Obama) to a terrorist haven, one of the reasons why, though no fellow Democrats seem likely to edge her, her chances of winning the White House seem dim. Despite Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson vowing to "stem the tide" of unaccompanied illegal minors across the southern border with Mexico, thousands more are expected to enter the United States by the end of the year. With the system being overwhelmed, Border Patrol agents are concerned about minors who have admitted to being MS-13 members, a brutal street gang from El Salvador that has been successful in infiltrating American communities. Agents are also concerned about minors who have committed acts like torture and murder in their home countries before heading north to the United States. "We have six minors in Nogales

Kirsten Powers snapped at Bill O’Reilly tonight after he told her she doesn’t know what she’s talking about on immigration, and told O’Reilly she’s tired of him mocking liberals every day on every single issue just because “they care about people.” Powers argued that O’Reilly’s getting his facts wrong and that immigrants coming to the U.S. back in the day (like the Irish) were poor and uneducated, much like the immigrants O’Reilly is so worried about today. O’Reilly dismissed Powers and told her, “You don’t seem to really know what you’re talking about.” That really set Powers off. “I am
