The Real Story of the IRS Scandal
Tribune Media Services, Inc., by Jonah Goldberg

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 6/18/2014 5:41:24 AM

‘Congressional investigators are fuming over revelations that the Internal Revenue Service has lost a trove of emails to and from a central figure in the agency’s tea-party controversy.” That’s the opening sentence of the Associated Press story on the IRS’s claim that it lost an unknown number of e-mails over two years relating to the agency’s alleged targeting of political groups hostile to the president. But note how the AP casts the story: The investigators — Republican lawmakers — are outraged. Is it really so hard to imagine that if this were a Republican administration, the story wouldn’t be the frustration of partisan critics of the president?

It is soooo hard to believe that Lerner´s e-mails were sorted out into various categories and folders before archiving, resulting in only some e-mails surviving and others disappearing.

It is also soooo hard to believe that the archive tapes from this time period were "re-cycled" and over written by data when reels and reels of archive tape from earlier years remained untouched.

No, it´s not hard to believe, it´s impossible to believe. There is no way that selective, partial loss of emails to and from a given individual could be lost accidentally. Period.

There would have to be collusion and active efforts to delete such items by not only ALL senders and recipients, but also by multiple IT personnel responsible for archiving and storing the multiple, time-shifted backups of those exchanges. This is simply not possible.

I have no doubt whatsoever that those emails can be found or retrieved by competent IT forensics experts. This gambit must end with criminal charges and conspirators under arrest.

Jonah is right to identify a prevalent MSM tactic: turn attention away from behavior (IRS illegalities) by inserting a partisan diversion (Republicans). Elements of this tactic can be found on a larger scale. The ACA comes to mind: attention shifted from the manner in which the act was passed (behavior) to an emphasis on its historical importance (diversion).

Lerner fears immunity. She knows which side her bread is buttered on and knows that Obama will be waiting with a nice crisp pardon for her if things go south and she is convicted of anything. Who would you fear more? Obama telling you to keep your trap shut or else, or some Republican who promises you will not be prosecuted. The only card the Republicans have to pay is to make it clear if she truthfully testifies that she will be able to keep her government benefits and pension. Money talks and folks like Lerner listen. She may change her mind about immunity then.

Issa should really scare the Hades out of the IRS cover-up artist and subpoena the NSA records of the IRS emails. Once the IRS realizes their, dog ate my homework excuse might not hold up with NSA records, there might be one or two IRS employees willing to tell the truth to save their behinds. You know they have the emails safely stored. They have everything.

The Administration does not fear congressional subpoenas. They have slow rolled, obfuscated, misled, and obstructed with impunity. They feel so empowered by their monopoly on prosecutorial discretion with the support of supine media that they have the chutzpah to claim that the e-mails of Lerner et al. disappeared into the ether. Frankly, Issa can send subpoenas to NSA, IRS, POTUS, or the Pope and it´ll be 2017 before we see anything--assuming we don´t have another convenient computer crash. Isn´t the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Issa is Charlie Brown and POTUS is Lucy.

The only way to break this chain of obstruction of justice is for the House Committee to arrest Lois Lerner for the contempt that she´s already shown, hold a hearing, and incarcerate her until she cooperates. BTW because she will be compelled by the incarceration, the Courts will see her testimony as technically involuntary and likely see the compulsion as a technical grant of use immunity. The House has the power to do this. Granted, it´s been 80 years, but the Supreme Court has viewed this process twice and permitted it. Subpoenas from Issa´s committee and other posturing is the political equivalent of reorganizing the deck chairs on the Titanic. Currently, the Progressives see the House GOP as a group led by political eunuchs.

The story isn´t Lerner or the rmails. The story is the complete collapse of the GOP and it´s why I´m changing party affiliation to Independent. This is the last straw of utter cowardice in the GOP to accept this criminal false premise as a possibility. That they are investigating whether it is even possible to happen is concrete proof they are in power for themselves and are in gact vo-conspirators with the IRS. The leaders themselves have provided irrefutable proof. They are at best yellow bellied cowards. Toodles GOP.

Does the Congress have the power to hire their own IT forensics professionals and have them sift through the IRS e-mail systems? If they do, it should be done as soon as possible. And even the threat of doing so just might flush some out of the weeds and come forward to tell the truth. Issa should use every tool avaible to him to dig through the trash and get to the botton of these scandals.

President Obama was 500 miles from the Mexican border when he spoke about the child migrant crisis Wednesday evening, but he seemed to be even farther away than that. Standing before an oddly non-descript background in Dallas (really, the president could have been anywhere), Obama kept his distance—from the border, from the thousands of refugee children in bureaucratic limbo there, and from a Congress, he told the public, that bears the brunt of the responsibility for solving the problem. It was a president who, while bitterly complaining about the partisan divide in Washington, seemed more boxed in by it than ever, taking

In assessing the future of politics, former Obama campaign manager David Plouffe offered an eye-catching prediction in The Wall Street Journal´s op-ed page Monday: The Republican strongholds of Arizona, Georgia, and, yes, Texas, are poised to become swing states over the next couple of decades. His projection shouldn´t be too surprising: When looking at the booming minority growth across the country, it´s easy to see how the political composition of certain states can change dramatically, even in once-partisan strongholds. But it´s also worth taking a closer look at what´s currently happening in those three states, through the prism of the

The border crisis is forcing President Obama to pay the price for a re-election move he made two years ago. At the time, Obama was hoping to energize Latino voters who were disappointed that he had raised deportations to record levels in an attempt to build credibility with Republican lawmakers for an eventual deal on immigration reform. So in June 2012, Obama announced a half-measure he would take on his own. Through an executive order, Obama allowed hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants who came before the age of 16 to remain in the U.S. As a campaign tactic, it was a

President Obama’s ultimate weakness may be that he believes his own blarney. A year ago, Mr. Obama boasted in a “fireside” Web chat that his “is the most transparent administration in history.” There was not the slightest hint of irony. He may actually believe it. But three-dozen organizations representing newspapermen and other journalists, mostly liberals, beg to differ. In a testy letter to the president on Tuesday, the group decried the “slick non-answers” and cold shoulders they’re getting from Mr. Obama’s representatives, who have restricted access to any information they consider embarrassing to the administration. “The stifling of free expression,” the signers

For many, it is difficult to decide whether Barack Obama is intentionally trying to destroy the United States or that he is doing so as a consequence of some type of ideology-induced stupidity. The damage wrought through the implementation of his absurd and impractical liberal “solutions” to national problems is readily evident. When Barack Obama was inaugurated on January 20, 2009 the national debt of the United States was $10,626,877,048,913. As of Jun 26, 2014, the debt was $17,512,592,730,102. Imagine that it is 1937 and time for the first Social Security payroll taxes to be assessed on workers and their employers. Two years earlier, President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s new program was successfully sold to the American public as an ambitious yet fiscally responsible, self-financing expansion of social insurance protections. The new Federal Insurance Contributions Act tax—a payroll tax of 2 percent on earnings—will pay for it. Imagine further, however, that upon 1937’s arrival, FDR and Congress decide they don’t want to risk the problematic politics associated with imposing the payroll tax. And so, despite previous assurances of fiscal rectitude,

The White House on Tuesday formally requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to deal with an influx of Central American minors along the southern border. But the proposal was quickly met with broad skepticism among Republican lawmakers, who were doubtful that the package would be approved quickly — if at all. Administration officials said the request is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at building more detention centers, adding immigration judges, and beefing up border patrols and air surveillance. President Obama has said he hopes such steps will both speed deportations and discourage adults from sending children on
