Delta apologizes for
Ghana giraffe gaffe

Atlanta Journal-Constitution [GA], by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:snakeoil, 6/17/2014 7:47:11 PM

Delta Air Lines, under a deluge of worldwide ridicule, issued an apology Tuesday for using an image of a giraffe to represent Ghana, where no giraffes live (except perhaps in zoos). Delta tweeted the celebratory message Monday after the U.S. team defeated Ghana 2-1 in their World Cup game. The tweet showed a photo of the Statue of Liberty with a "2" next to it and a photo of a giraffe with a "1" next to it. The counter-tweets and web-based news stories came fast and furious, with such headlines as "Delta discovers that there are no giraffes in Ghana"

Comments:
But giraffes are much cuter than animals actually found in Ghana such as the spiting cobra.

Astronomers in America have told the US congress that the search for extraterrestrial life is “plausible and warrants scientific inquiry”. Dan Werthimer and Seth Shostak of the SETI Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley presented evidence to the House Committee to secure further funding to find alien life in outer space. “In the last fifty years, evidence has steadily mounted that the components and conditions we believe necessary for life are common and perhaps ubiquitous in our galaxy,” said Werthimer in his written testimony. “There may even be primitive extraterrestrial life in our own solar system, perhaps on

He’s accused of using a weapon to force Waffle House employees into the back of a restaurant so he could steal money. But it’s the weapon he used that really caught witnesses’ attention. The suspect was carrying a pitchfork. The suspect, identified as Jeffrey Willard Wooten, 50, was wearing coveralls and a ski mask when he entered the Buford Highway breakfast eatery Thursday night, according to Norcross police. After forcing employees into a back room, Wooten went after cash, police said.

CROSSVILLE — There are two popular quotations from the writings of Thomas Jefferson that have been shown to be still relevant to our culture. “When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty” and “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” Taken together they demonstrate why the right to bear arms is central to keeping our individual liberty. By now everyone must be familiar with the citizen standoff of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) paramilitary in Nevada by rancher

A planet warmed by human-produced greenhouse gases poses significant risks already to people, cities and nations today and not just in the far-off future, according to a report the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will release at the end of this week. And those risks could mean "abrupt or drastic changes" that could lead to unstoppable and irreversible climate shifts like the runaway melting of Greenland´s glacial ice or the rapid drying out of South America´s Amazon rainforest, the Christian Science Monitor reports. The dangers of a warming Earth aren´t limited to animals like polar bears. They´re immediate and very human,

The source is referring to the early but underwhelming sales figures. "Between us, they are nervous at S&S [Simon & Schuster]," says the source, who gave permission for his email to be published. "Sales were well below expectations and the media was a disaster." According to this source, a Simon & Schuster insider, "They sold 60,000 hard covers first week and 24,000 ebooks." The publishing house was "hoping and praying for 150,000 print first week."

At any other time, the growing crisis on the Mexican border, with tens of thousands of unaccompanied young people crossing illegally into the United States, might dominate the news. Yet the situation has received less attention than it might amid the furor over House Majority Leader Eric Cantor´s primary defeat, the collapse of Iraq, the continuing Bergdahl matter, and Hillary Clinton´s book tour. They´re all genuinely important news stories, and they´ve crowded out disaster at the border. But whether or not many people noticed, this was the week in which the Obama administration´s attempts to deflect blame for the border

I know, I know, the recent ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Levant) gains have everyone scared. No doubt, the Islamophilic administration will want to step in, and save Islam from itself once again. Let me advocate a course of action that will make sense (snip) Let the Muslims kill each other. After the administration blundered on Benghazi, on the Arab Spring, and Syria, Heaven itself has afforded it one last chance to set itself right. It is almost impossible for the administration to screw it up. All it has to do is nothing. Yes, Nothing!

Wikipedia has an article describing the six times Republican politicians suggested impeaching Barack Obama, the most serious of which was a hearing by the House Judiciary Committee “formally titled ‘The President’s Constitutional Duty to Faithfully Execute the Laws,’ that has been viewed as an attempt to begin justifying impeachment proceedings”. (Snip) The problem with the “Obama is unimpeachable” argument is that he has already been impeached as Leader of the Free World. Any observer of Obama’s collapse will have noted his marginalization in international councils. Britain flatly refused to go along with him in enforcing a Red Line in Syria.

Bill Clinton is by far the most admired president of the past quarter century, a new poll shows, underscoring how much he has done to burnish his profile since leaving the White House in 2000. Asked which president of the past 25 years they admired most, some 42% of respondents named Mr. Clinton in the new Wall Street Journal/NBC News/Annenberg Survey. That was more than twice the share that named any other president. The other three presidents of the quarter century all polled about the same: 18% said they most admired President Barack Obama; 17% named George W. Bush; and 16%

In the letter, the president called for Congressional authorization for this action. And this was the statement released by the Press Secretary’s office. Today, consistent with the War Powers Resolution, the President transmitted a report notifying the Congress that up to approximately 275 U.S. military personnel are deploying to Iraq to provide support and security for U.S. personnel and the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Hardly anyone accepts the IRS’ claim to have lost two years of Lois Lerner’s emails. Those most familiar with government record retention requirements, and the technology used, probably are the most skeptical. The supposedly lost emails cover January 2009 to April 2011, the period when Lerner is suspected of targeting conservative groups with heightened and invasive scrutiny. Those emails also pertain to communications Lerner may have had with agencies other than the Internal Revenue Service. That’s key, because many suspect that the Obama White House knew about, and may have coordinated, the targeting.

Highly organized and bloodthirsty, the radical Islamist army called ISIS took but a few days to subjugate the cities of northern Iraq as it dreams of taking over the entire country — while President Obama played it cynically cool. The group’s stunning, barbaric march prompted the President on Friday to offer to review a range of options because America has “a stake in making sure that these jihadists are not getting a permanent foothold in either Iraq or Syria.” Returned now to the White House from a long-weekend family vacation in California, the President must face the awful reality that he dodged
