´Plot lines in Hollywood are more

The IRS ´lost´ the emails of six other agency officials associated with a scheme to target conservative organizations--in addition to those of former official Lois Lerner--and kept it a secret for months, the House Ways and Means committee learned on Tuesday. The news prompted the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to issue broad subpoenas on Tuesday afternoon for hard drives, thumb drives and other backups that Lerner and the tax authorities may have used to archive her messages. Haven´t we been told by techies in the FBI and the NSA for years now that things aren´t really lost on the hard drive and that they have software that can resurrect the most ´lost´ document?

Now would be a great time to either prove or disprove the claims by the Feds that ´lost´ things can be found.

How are they going to know the drives were the actual ones from those employees? They should jail the higher ups for contempt and start working their way down the ladder at one jailing per day until the emails are produced. Unless they have a gun held to their head libtards will not play well with others. Just a fact of life.

Currency markets overshoot – get used to it

The CBI is understandably upset by my column this morning, which urged the business organisation to stop whining about a strengthening pound. Admittedly, my sign off line was gratuitous, but then it is the function of a columnist to overstate things from time to time. More seriously, however, is it right to be concerned about the recent strength in sterling? As is usually the case in currency markets, this is less a case of sterling strength as dollar and euro weakness. Our business and interest rate cycles are all out of sync, with the UK expected to be the first of the "big four" reserve currency central banks to raise interest rates.

Stephanie Kwolek, the American chemist and inventor who has died aged 90, created the first in a family of synthetic polymers that would later be spun together into Kevlar – a lightweight fibre with myriad applications, most famously in the construction of bullet-proof vests. In the early 1960s the chemical company DuPont was searching for a way to reinforce car tyres without the use of heavy steel belts. At the time there were predictions of an oil shortage, and researchers hoped that a new lightweight-yet-strong breed of tyre would result in more fuel-efficient cars. With a team of chemists called

Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, are worth between $10 and $50 million, according to their financial disclosure forms--but taxpayers will still pony up nearly $1 million this year to fund their post-White House lifestyle. Like the three other living former presidents, Jimmy Carter and the two George Bushes, Clinton receives a $201,000 annual pension. But that just scratches the surface of the government benefits he shares with his wife Hillary. The total for 2014 also includes $157,000 for staff salaries and benefits, $414,000 for office space and $9,000 for phone bills.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will collect a $225,000 speaking fee from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in October, it emerged on Tuesday. The massive expense was confirmed just weeks after the university formalized a 4 percent tuition increase for each of the next four years. Rate hikes have nearly tripled tuition costs there since 2004. Clinton will deliver the keynote address at an invitation-only gala for philanthropists and other high-dollar donors who support UNLV. The university said private funds are being tapped to pay her speaking fee. But students see a zero-sum financial gain in which that

Boko Haram militants have abducted 60 more girls and women and 31 boys from villages in northeast Nigeria, reports claim. The apparent kidnapping in Kummabza, 95 miles from Borno state capital Maiduguri, is minutes from Chibok, where more than 200 schoolgirls were taken hostage on April 15. It has renewed fears over the safety of civilians amid a military state of emergency that has failed to curtail near-daily attacks by Boko Haram fighters. Security forces denied the kidnappings. Nigeria´s government and military have been widely criticized for their slow response to the schoolgirls´ abduction more than two months ago.

Yesterday the Mail revealed the terrible treatment meted out to great-grandmother Lily Dove, who has been told she can no longer visit her local GP. The surgery said it is unable to cope with a surge in the local population, many of them workers from Eastern Europe, so was ‘de-registering’ 1,500 patients. Mrs Dove--who has lived in the area since 1919--will find it enormously difficult to travel to another doctor three miles away. But, unbelievably, her GP in Watton, Norfolk, said that making an exception for the 95-year-old widow, and allowing her to remain on the books, would be ‘discriminatory’.

Thousands of patients are being arbitrarily struck off by GPs who say they can no longer cope with spiralling numbers. Doctors warned last night that a recruitment crisis has left surgeries with too few staff. Joe Biden sought to make political capital out of presidential rival Hillary Clinton’s recent gaffes about her wealth by claiming that he ‘has no savings account’. However, financial records shows that he’s not quite the man of the people he claims to be, with a savings account worth between $1,001 and $15,000. The 2013 financial disclosure he made in May also indicates that the Vice President and his wife, Dr Jill Biden, are worth between $1,323,970 and $162,996. Dick Harpootlian, a former Democratic Party chairman in South Carolina, also smelt blood after Hillary Clinton’s gaffes. He framed his insult in terms the fictional

The evidence of their tinkering can clearly be seen at Real Science, where blogger Steven Goddard has posted a series of graphs which show "climate change" before and after the adjustments. When the raw data is used, there is little if any evidence of global warming and some evidence of global cooling. The emails, covering the period January 2009 to April 2011, belonged to embattled former official Lois Lerner and could shed light on whether an expansive scheme to single out conservative groups for special scrutiny was guided by members of Congress or administration officials outside the IRS. ´The committee requested all of Lois Lerner’s emails over a year ago,´ said House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. ‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T,” the song goes. It is easy enough to spell, but for some vocal critics of President Barack Obama, it seems exceedingly hard to do. As the president moves toward the land of the lame ducks, his political enemies are calling for blood. That’s no shocker at this stage of a presidency. In this case, the cuts go deeper. For some, it is not enough to disagree. Some high-status public figures seem determined to demean, denigrate and ridicule the president of the United States. On June 12 the Speaker of the U.S. House stepped to a podium and insulted Obama for his handling of

Noted management expert and Internal Revenue Service Commissioner John Koskinen was apparently called out of retirement — like the Ted Williams of evasive, unapologetic bureaucrats — to destroy what is left of his agency’s credibility. At immediate issue is two years of subpoenaed e-mails from former IRS official Lois Lerner to outside agencies, lost in a convenient computer crash. The possible involvement of other agencies is one focus of a congressional investigation into the heightened IRS scrutiny of conservative nonprofit groups before the 2012 election. In recent congressional testimony, Koskinen admitted that the e-mails

There are times that I have senior moments and forget certain names and events but after the recent Obama Iraq war implosion, I´m convinced most political pundits are suffering from them as well. What is unusual is that this revision of history is being committed by conservatives who should know better. Recent commentary by Glenn Beck, George Will and Charles Krauthammer indicate that they have significant memory lapses about why we went to war in Iraq. They now suggest that it was a wrong decision whereas my complaint is that we took too long to invade and oust Saddam Hussein.

He made the remark at the end of a talk at the White House Summit on Working Families. “Somebody asked: ‘Well, it’s well-known that women are more likely to vote for Democrats,’ to which I said, women are smarter,” Obama said. “This is true.” The rest of Obama’s talk centered on paid maternity leave, a minimum wage of $10.10, flexibility in the workplace, and access to childcare. He blamed Congress for moving slowly after he asked it to raise the minimum wage and when

US Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived in Iraq´s capital, Baghdad as Sunni insurgents expand their control of towns across north-western Iraq. In Egypt on Sunday, Mr Kerry warned that Sunni militants Isis´ "ideology of violence and repression is a threat not only to Iraq but to the entire region". On Sunday rebels--spearheaded by Isis militants--captured border crossings to Syria and Jordan. The strategically important airport in the northern Tal Afar has also fallen. The town controls the main road from the Syrian border to Mosul, Iraq´s second biggest city, which was captured by the rebels two weeks ago.
