Rick Perry: ´We Don´t Have The
Resources´ To Secure Texas Border

Breitbart Texas, by Bob Price

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 6/17/2014 1:15:52 PM

HOUSTON, Texas—Governor Rick Perry (R-TX) appeared on Fox News’ Fox and Friends show and said Texas lacks the resources and manpower to secure the 1,200 mile Texas border with Mexico. The comment sent shock waves through a Texas grassroots discussion thread on Facebook this morning of activists who are seeking a special session call from the Governor to deal with the issue of border security. In the video, Governor Perry tells the hosts of Fox and Friends, "We don´t have the resources, nor the manpower to be able to do that (secure the border) for the 1,200 miles. If we did,

Comments:
Why would he say this when "other Texas elected officials, speaking on condition of anonymity have told Breitbart Texas that Texas does, in fact, have the resources to conduct not only a surge operation..." I have always been a huge fan of Rick Perry and wanted him to be our nominee before he suffered that meltdown. I don´t understand what´s going on here. Maybe some Texas Ldotters can further inform.

Let Texans loose to take care of their border. It´ll get done right and the Mexicans will go home.

Another insightful comment from #1. He/she never fails to impress.

OP, I´m glad you have been a supporter of Governor Perry in the past. I´m disappointed, however, that you will accept anonymous sources for information about what is happening in Texas. If the "unnamed sources" know how Texas can secure the border, I wish they had offered specifics. Surely you don´t believe Rick Perry and Greg Abbott are willing to just let the state be overrun if something could be done.

Although Mr. Price didn´t discuss it in his piece, if the DPS conducts a "surge", there is still the problem of what to do with the people they intercept. The State of Texas has no authority to deport them. All the DPS can do is turn them over to the Border Patrol, which is federal, and we know what happens then.

The Texas Rangers are part of the Department of Public Safety.

Here is a link that explains the duties of the DPS and the Rangers. Scroll down to see the section on Border Security. A reader will see that State officials are mostly limited to intelligence analysis in coordination with the feds. http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/TexasRangers/specialUnits.htm

I do agree, however, that Joe Straus spend too much time enjoying his power and not enough trying to get things done. A special session is called for, although that is an enormous expense to Texas taxpayers.

I would tend to agree with Perry. It is not the states responsibility to take other funds and spend it to protect the border. That responsibility is one of those few in the US Constitution that REQUIRES the Federal Government to protect its citizens and its borders. What´s ironic is that this is one of the few charges of the Fed and they have done a miserable job doing that. Arizona has been battered by this administration for taking some of this responsibility in their own hands. What does that tell US. I.E. Get out of our way, we are going too inundate this country with illegals. (The Cloward and Piven stategy.)

I like Governor Perry. I am really shocked he believes Texans will fall for these excuses. In a crisis, you pull from the human resources you have from all sectors to address the emergency. We have tens of thousands of well-paid law enforcement, National Guard, Texas Rangers, etc. If Perry wants to prove he has the right stuff to be President, well, HERE is his opportunity. Our state is the largest recipient of the rapists, murderers, drug cartels, gang members that are pouring over the border. He needs to start acting like Texans are in grave mortal danger DAILY -- because we are!

Joe Straus is just a democrat in disguise. Conservatives have been trying to get rid of him for years, but the Texas Legislature is full of former democrats, and is therefore more "moderate" than one would think. If this issue at all depends on Straus, don´t look for anything to happen unless he receives extreme political pressure. He only cares about his power and the perks, not anything else.

#8, the funds have to be authorized and that will require a special session of the Legislature. Yes, it will happen. But, it´s unfair and uninformed to heap blame on the governor´s head for not spending money he is not authorized to spend.

I haven´t researched this statement, but it is my understanding that the National Guard is now just that: National. The state and governors have yielded a lot of control of the National Guard units to the Feds (or the Feds have usurped the power) To defend the Texas border, the governor would have to use the State Guard. Then all they could do is try to prevent illegals from crossing the border. Once in, they become a federal responsibility and, as others have pointed out, we know what happens at that point: Obama sends out the Welcome Wagon and provides a lawyer.

Virtually every key House Republican, from Speaker John Boehner on down, has vowed to oppose a conference committee with the Senate´s immigration bill passed last year. And lawmakers working to craft legislation to address the tens of thousands of children streaming across the southern U.S. border say it won´t touch citizenship for illegal aliens, increased visas, or any other topics than border security. But a key veteran of the immigration wars on Capitol Hill is warning that legislation to amend a 2008 law being cited for cumbersome, years-long deportations would theoretically open the door to a conference committee on the controversial

HOUSTON, Texas--Despite the border crisis that involves more than 1,000 illegal immigrants entering the country each day, Texas Democratic Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee apparently believes the U.S.-Mexico border is "under control." On MSNBC she recently said, "I disagree it is in devastating condition. I think with now 21,000 border patrol agents it is under control." She added that Border Patrol agents told her that "they are able to do their job, even though they had been called into service to change diapers and make formula."

President Obama’s defiant emphasis on executive action reveals a larger failure looming for his legacy: His inability to work with Republicans means that he’s unlikely to score even one significant legislative achievement over the final years of his presidency. Unless Democrats win back the House and hold onto the Senate in November, a scenario dismissed by most political analysts, Mr. Obama has said goodbye long ago to his biggest accomplishments in Congress. They occurred back in 2010, when Democrats controlled the House and Senate, and Mr. Obama signed into law Obamacare, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform act and a two-year extension
