Publishing Source: Hillary Book a ´Bomb´
Weekly Standard, by Daniel Halper

Original Article

Posted By:MissMolly, 6/17/2014 5:00:50 AM

In an email this evening, a veteran publishing source calls the latest Hillary Clinton book, Hard Choices, a memoir of her State Department years, a "bomb." The source is referring to the early but underwhelming sales figures. "Between us, they are nervous at S&S [Simon & Schuster]," says the source, who gave permission for his email to be published. "Sales were well below expectations and the media was a disaster." According to this source, a Simon & Schuster insider, "They sold 60,000 hard covers first week and 24,000 ebooks." The publishing house was "hoping and praying for 150,000 print first week."

Nice job of spreading the wealth, PIAPS.

What will follow is a predictable spin, "I was misquoted", "During editing, ideas were tossed around to help make the complex understandable", ad nauseum. Or my favorite, "My dear, dear friend who is my ghost writer went rogue".

From earlier in the week: Fear not, ... her book will be in the bargain bin the day after the election. Same was true with ´´Village.´´. Attention Walmart shoppers: Hil and Bill are on the Board of Directors. Might not find it there at discount.

ALSO, we got her lies for free when she was co-president and when NY elected her. That was like milk through the fence; we ain´t buying the cow.

The only part I find unbelievable is that they were expecting it to do twice as well as it did. I think I remember they gave her $8 million for her fist book, and now 14 mil for this. They cannot imagine that they will get that kind of money back. This kind of deal is to enhance the reputation of the publishing house. Maybe that given the right circumstances the book would miraculously sell. (i.e., were HRC to become the dem nominee, the publisher would move a lot of books), but deals like this are not about sales, are they?

Again, the sages here at L.com called it correctly. We could have saved S&S a lot of money but they deserve this failure for publishing a book by a lying loser and rejecting a lot of competent authors by doing so.

#8, unfortunately there are a few (perhaps displaced Yankees) in flyover country who still read this rot. I recall seeing ´Living History´ in the hands of many Hillary-looking types on airplanes.

As they said of Bruce Springsteen´s endlessly hyped live album: shipped gold, returned platinum.

The book business can always make a book appear a winner, with wealthy authors buying up multi copies, added to the hype of phony multi million dollar advances. Hillary did not receive 14 million outright cash. She signed a contract with tons of hyped bonuses that may never materialize, i.e., if the book sells 200 million copies, she will receive $5 million; if the book is made into a movie, she will receive another $3 million, and so on. All hype.

A boring book by a boring person. For past Hillary fans, the thrill is gone.

The poor book sales will not dramatically affect HRC or SS financials. They are however a peek into Hillary´s political future: She will win elections only if "no one" is running against her. If the Dems can find a candidate with a modicum of charisma and reasonable verbal skills (that eliminates Biden) HRC will not get the nomination.

#5 and #17: You are spot on. The Teachers´ Unions alone will balloon Hillary [so to speak] onto the bestseller lists. And yes, the Hillary Re-Education Camps will feature it prominently along with "It Takes A Village Idiot" and "Living A Lie But Calling It History".

I picture the future as in that Obama campaign commercial as a takeoff of the 1984 Apple ad; the Beast Herself on the big screen talking to chained-down open-mouthed drones [us] about having a ´conversation´, a ´dialogue´...

And therein lies their problem #23, their bench is very shallow. They have Warren, Biden Cuomo, Schumer, Reid, Pelosi, and a host of other left wing radicals to put up after Obama is finished his destructive second term.

The scary part is that any of those could win if the GOP selects another Dem lite to run against them.

It isn´t about communicating ideas or even about popularity. It´s about a significant revenue source that exceeds the strict limits of campaign donations. A wealthy individual can only donate so much money, but he could buy a million dollars worth of books to line Hillary´s pocket. The book is laundering the donations, period.

Of them all, the perfect coffee book, the title most fun to display. ....... "THE CLINTONS BELONG IN PRISON" by Melrose Larry Green, longtime Howard Stearn regular !

Sixty thousand copies the first week and all down hill from there. This was a major miscalculation by the Publisher who should have known better than to dish out advance money to a known liar and charlatan.

Next time consider the source and fact check the book. This will become a used penny book on Amazon before the year is out.

Something to watch is the book´s value on the secondary market. If a book is popular, a used copy will sell not far below the publisher´s price because of demand. If it remains popular its value will eventually exceed the publishers price. My guess is Hillzabub´s Choices will soon be a dime a dozen.

I have heard many times in the past that political parties will literally buy up truckloads of copies of their potential presidential candidates´ books to make it look like they are very popular, and that the book´s author is is a very hot candidate.

The books are actually stored & eventually released a few at a time so no one will notice the truth. The whole thing is done to get & keep popular momentum going for their party´s candidate.

If the DNC is not doing this now for Hillary like they did for her and Bill´s previous books, then this one fact alone speaks volumes about what the DNC really thinks about Hillary & her chances of winning a race for US President.

Maybe the DNC just realized that the global situation has gotten so seriously bad in the last 6 years that our country (and the entire world actually) desperately need a real leader... someone whose strength comes from experience, integrity and an ethical backbone made of tempered steel. Someone who has the ability to assemble a strong network of like-minded, reliable, principled, and honest individuals willing to do & inspire the hard work necessary to restore order to our country again.

It seems the Democrats just realized that all they have available is Hillary and The Dude......

I´d like to amend my post #48 a bit... Amazon itself dropped the price of the Beasts book from $35 to $21 already. More deadly is that private sellers are offering the book for $15 brand new. Dead in the water.

Other private sellers are offering the book for just under $16 used. That will drop before the week is over because nobody will buy a book used when they can get one new for $15. Expect the price to drop under $15 sometime this week.

Hillary and prominent Democrats have an advantage in book sales. Libraries, unions, think tanks, universities, government departments, and thousands of activist groups will faithfully buy a few copies of even the most worthless dreck to support the cause.

Even in the Red states the rank and file public employees often favor the Democrats. And decisions about what to buy or not buy are often made by them.

The Republicans are not automatically supportive or nearly as well organized in small day to day decisions.

The reviews on amazon are almost as entertaining as lucianne. If my local supermarket puts it in the free container box I might pick it up. But only if it is triple ply. Single ply just isn´t as effective as toilet tissue and I´ve used triple ply ever since I learned it´s bad for the environment. I refuse to read it but I assume it begins with "It was a dark and stormy night." And ends with "And they lived happily everafter."

There is no limit to how many books a political backer might "purchase" from a candidate. Say Soros purchases a million copies, Hillary now has a million or so in her pocket to "personally" roll into her own campaign. And don´t tell me that this huge, and undeserving, advance WASNT a campaign contribution.

A Flashing Green Light

The tens of thousands of Central Americans who have crossed America’s porous borders over the last year came on the assumption that once on U.S. soil they would never have to return to their countries. The instigators of this influx correctly viewed Obama’s de facto support for amnesty as a flashing green light. After all, how seriously were they going to take U.S. immigration law under a president who treated border security as a punch line to a joke? In 2011, Obama loudly mocked conservatives, the very ones who foresaw today’s mushrooming crisis, as malcontents crying wolf about a vulnerable border. “You

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s stunning primary loss has left a bit of a mess in Virginia’s seventh congressional district, with Democrats weighing whether to invest in the race and allies of GOP nominee David Brat alleging that Mr. Cantor’s backers are pulling money away from his campaign. Democrats, who had all but conceded the general election before nominating college professor Jack Trammell at the last minute, now must decide whether to spend money in a district that leans heavily Republican. But Mr. Brat, in securing one of the biggest political upsets in recent memory, must now find a way to

Jackson, Miss. State Sen. Chris McDaniel has scheduled a Wednesday news conference to describe what his campaign says is evidence of voting irregularities surrounding the June 24 GOP runoff and to discuss his next steps. McDaniel led voting in the June 3 primary but lost in a June 24 runoff with U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran for the Republican nomination. The matter could end up in court. Mississippi College Law professor Matt Steffey says that wouldn´t be the easy way out for McDaniel. "The law makes it difficult to challenge an election," said Steffey, "because in our society that´s the thing that´s supposed to

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Former South Carolina state treasurer Thomas Ravenel has presented signatures to get on the ballot as an independent running for Lindsey Graham´s U.S. Senate seat. Ravenel said he gave 17,000 signatures when he arrived Monday at the state Election Commission in Columbia. Election officials will have to verify the signatures. That process is expected to take about a month. Ravenel became state treasurer as a Republican in 2007. He had to resign months after his election when he was charged with buying cocaine for himself and his friends. Ravenel says he is running to reduce the size of government,

University of Arkansas library administrators were in contact with Clinton Foundation officials the same day the university rushed to take action against the Washington Free Beacon for publishing recordings of Hillary Clinton discussing her 1975 defense of a child rapist, according to internal emails obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. Administrators scrambled to “get the lawyers involved” to draft a “cease and desist” letter to the Free Beacon the morning after the “Hillary Tapes” report, and over a week before the university admitted it did not actually own the copyright for the recordings. Additional emails revealed that other media outlets had previously

There’s a very simple solution to this Obamanation that’s occurring on the southern border. Enforce the law. By which I mean, deport them. Deport them all, not just the latest huddled masses yearning to live for free, forever, in Section 8 housing on EBT cards. No, we must deport all of the 12 or 20 or 30 million illegal aliens who are turning this country into a Third World flophouse. Can we do it? Yes, we can. A few years back, Marsha Coakley famously said, “Technically, it’s not illegal to be illegal in Massachusetts.” The ways things are going, it won’t be long before

Summertime, and the living is easy: backyard barbecues, beach books, plastic surgery. It’s the worst-kept secret in Washington. Plenty of those glowing faces returning from vacation are the result of a doctor, not a few days off. Summer, especially in an election year, is prime time for nips, tucks and other cosmetic fine tuning. Not that anyone here admits it — in the magical world of politics, public officials and talking heads are genetically blessed with hair that never turns gray, baby-smooth foreheads and barely any wrinkles. And by plastic surgery (or Botox, laser treatments, body sculpting, dermal fillers, pick your poison), we’re

JACKSON, Miss. — Mark Mayfield, one of the founders of the Mississippi Tea Party, had lost his political appetite. He stayed away from Facebook and stopped writing letters to the editor. He went to his law office, but often had little to do, since his major clients had all but cut him off. When the runoff for the Republican primary came around, pitting longtime Senator Thad Cochran against State Senator Chris McDaniel, the Tea Party challenger whom Mr. Mayfield deeply believed in, friends said Mr. Mayfield could not even bring himself to vote. Inspectors surveying Philadelphia´s Veterans Affairs benefits center in June found two stunning signs of disarray: mail bins brimming with claims dating to 2011 and other benefits that had been paid twice. More alarming, the team from the VA Office of Inspector General found evidence that staff tasked with managing pensions for the eastern United States were manipulating dates to make old claims appear new, according to a report obtained by The Inquirer. The findings are the first clear evidence that the city´s VA system is not immune from controversies that have plagued other centers and sparked a growing scandal over delayed care

Not anymore. Recently, and incredibly, Grimes officially aligned herself with the most exotic Democratic Party segments by campaigning with the doyenne of the leftist hierarchy, former Harvard professor, and now U.S. senator from Massachusetts, Elizabeth Warren. When Michelle Nunn attended a fundraiser on Capitol Hill the other day, as we reported, one of the three co-sponsors of the event was Virtual Murrell, who owns a government relations firm in D.C. The conservative National Review dug deeper into Murrell’s background and found quite a tale: Murrell was indicted in 1994 by a federal grand jury on charges that he solicited and received over $37,000 in bribes from businesses in San Francisco while serving as an aide to an Oakland city councilman. The indictment found him guilty of violating the Hobbs Act, a federal statute that prohibits elected and

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
