Most transparent administration
ever telling local police to

This isn’t a matter of an Obama administration official whispering in local law enforcement’s ears or sending a vague memo. They’ve been actively interfering in public records requests and lawsuits: The Obama administration has been quietly advising local police not to disclose details about surveillance technology they are using to sweep up basic cellphone data from entire neighborhoods, The Associated Press has learned. Citing security reasons, the U.S. has intervened in routine state public records cases and criminal trials regarding use of the technology. This has resulted in police departments withholding materials or heavily censoring

ISIS terrorists exterminated hundreds of Shiites in a mass grave in Iraq this week. They trucked them to a ditch and shot them dead. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon condemned the recent upsurge of violence in Iraq Monday and called on the terrorists to respect international humanitarian law. India.com reported: A statement issued by Ban’s spokesperson on Sunday night stated that reports of mass executions by ISIL were deeply disturbing and underscored the urgency of bringing the perpetrators of such crimes to justice, Xinhua reported. ”The secretary general warns against sectarian rhetoric that could further exacerbate

Sometime around 1212, mystics in Europe cooked up the idea that kids could part the seas, reach the Holy Land, reclaim Jerusalem, and convert the infidel Muslims. Thousands of children in Northern Europe flocked to the Mediterranean in response to such rumors, but when they reached the shore, the seas would not part, and many of them died as they scattered home in hunger. We are witnessing a sort of children’s crusade on our own southern border. Thousands of young, poor would-be immigrants — 90,000 this year alone — have swarmed across the border, the logical fruition of the entire cynical

Why Was Hillary Clinton Laughing

As a lawyer in the 1970s, Hillary Clinton defended a child rapist. Is it disturbing that in a taped interview recorded years later she is heard laughing over how she succeeded in securing a more lenient sentence for him? It’s hardly unusual for a criminal trial lawyer to gossip about a courtroom triumph on behalf of a less than admirable client, often with gallows humor and over drinks after a hard day’s work. But it’s highly unusual for a lawyer to boast and laugh about such a circumstance in an on-the-record interview with a journalist—and pretty much jaw-dropping when the lawyer is

So now Bowe Bergdahl is back in the U.S. And the five Al-Qaeda terrorists we released for him are in Qatar—doubtless on their way to Iraq or Afghanistan. The prospect of an American defeat in both countries makes the exchange look more than usually stupid, and we’re entitled to ask just what’s going on in the Obama administration. We remember the Fall of Saigon and nervously await the possible evacuation of the Embassy in Baghdad, as Obama plays golf. We’ve seen crazy rulers before. There was a time, during the Napoleonic Wars, when most of Europe’s crowned heads were barking mad.

Highly organized and bloodthirsty, the radical Islamist army called ISIS took but a few days to subjugate the cities of northern Iraq as it dreams of taking over the entire country — while President Obama played it cynically cool. The group’s stunning, barbaric march prompted the President on Friday to offer to review a range of options because America has “a stake in making sure that these jihadists are not getting a permanent foothold in either Iraq or Syria.” Returned now to the White House from a long-weekend family vacation in California, the President must face the awful reality that he dodged

As seems the rule in the Obama era, America has few good choices for handling the Iraqi mess, but subcontracting the solution to Iran, as the Obama administration is evidently contemplating, is probably the worst. President Obama & Co. know the situation calls for some US action, but, typically, are taking their time weighing all options. By the time they finally decide, it may be too late. Last week swarming jihadi fighters captured large swaths of Iraq in a well-planned offensive, making mincemeat of Iraq’s army and ransacking its US-supplied arms in the process (not to mention more than $1 billion in

As Rep. Raul Labrador launched his upstart bid for House Majority Leader on Friday, he ran into a big problem: He didn´t have his colleagues´ phone numbers. House Republican members and GOP aides, in interviews with the Washington Examiner over the weekend, said that the Idaho Republican has made concerted attempts to woo his colleagues, whose votes he is asking for in Thursday´s secret-ballot election for majority leader. But events over the weekend showed why Labrador´s bid to upset House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., for the conference´s influential No. 2 post remains a long shot. Labrador, a Tea Party

Hardly anyone accepts the IRS’ claim to have lost two years of Lois Lerner’s emails. Those most familiar with government record retention requirements, and the technology used, probably are the most skeptical. The supposedly lost emails cover January 2009 to April 2011, the period when Lerner is suspected of targeting conservative groups with heightened and invasive scrutiny. Those emails also pertain to communications Lerner may have had with agencies other than the Internal Revenue Service. That’s key, because many suspect that the Obama White House knew about, and may have coordinated, the targeting.

Imagine that you have a child, a wanderer by nature, who gets caught up in a war that has persisted aimlessly for many years; his roaming has festered into a chronic pathology for which there is no known cure. Then imagine that the child, who had hoped to help make a change for the better, becomes so disillusioned that he or she decides that there is no choice but to just walk away into unknown territory. If that were your child, what would you do? That question, faced by Robert and Jani Bergdahl, might seem like a difficult one, but a

Democrats entered the fall of 2013 looking like a slight favorite to retain the Senate. They left the winter of 2014 looking like an undisputed underdog. What happened? The botched rollout of the Affordable Care Act hurt Democrats badly. But the damage from that debacle would have been a lot less potent if not for the efforts of one conservative group in particular. Since October, Americans for Prosperity has spent the kind of money on TV that nobody has ever seen before in the early months of a midterm election—more than $40 million. Just about all of it has targeted

Let’s face it — there was never going to be a good time for a gaffe of this scale, but it’s hard to think of a worse time for it. In Iraq, where Hillary Clinton signed off on the zero option rather than push for Barack Obama to reach an agreement for residual forces, an al-Qaeda spinoff marches on Baghdad in its effort to establish a new Islamist caliphate. In Afghanistan, fifty people died in what is largely considered a successful election campaign. In Burma, which Hillary claims as one of her crowning achievements, the winner of an election from

At any other time, the growing crisis on the Mexican border, with tens of thousands of unaccompanied young people crossing illegally into the United States, might dominate the news. Yet the situation has received less attention than it might amid the furor over House Majority Leader Eric Cantor´s primary defeat, the collapse of Iraq, the continuing Bergdahl matter, and Hillary Clinton´s book tour. They´re all genuinely important news stories, and they´ve crowded out disaster at the border. But whether or not many people noticed, this was the week in which the Obama administration´s attempts to deflect blame for the border

In an astonishing challenge to traditional Catholic doctrine, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, nominally Catholic, has taken to telling San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone that he should not attend the National Organization for Marriage’s June 19 march on the Supreme Court in Washington D.C. Cordileone is scheduled to be a featured speaker at the event, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, which is consistent with his championing of Proposition 8 in 2008. Cordileone helped raise $1.5 million for the initiative, which intended to ban same-sex marriage in the state. He once said, "The ultimate attack of the evil one is

Bill Clinton is by far the most admired president of the past quarter century, a new poll shows, underscoring how much he has done to burnish his profile since leaving the White House in 2000. Asked which president of the past 25 years they admired most, some 42% of respondents named Mr. Clinton in the new Wall Street Journal/NBC News/Annenberg Survey. That was more than twice the share that named any other president. The other three presidents of the quarter century all polled about the same: 18% said they most admired President Barack Obama; 17% named George W. Bush; and 16%

Top Jeb Bush adviser Mike Murphy, who did not even pay attention to Dave Brat´s campaign like Breitbart News did, has falsely been claiming that Cantor´s embrace of amnesty for illegal immigrants was not the reason he lost last Tuesday. Liberal writer Mickey Kaus had enough of Murphy´s nonsense and slammed him on Twitter on Friday evening. Kaus became Brat´s de facto press secretary and top advocate on Twitter in the last months of the campaign because Kaus, like Brat, opposes amnesty for illegal immigrants because it would hurt American workers. He mentioned to Murphy that talk radio host Laura Ingraham

Members of Congress called on President Obama Sunday to link up with Arab allies and quell a quick-moving crisis in Iraq, where Islamic militants swept toward Baghdad and left a bloody trail in their wake. Republican lawmakers said the administration has sat on the sidelines for too long as sectarian violence threatens to undo what U.S. troops accomplished during the war in Iraq. The bloodshed spurred by militants from an al Qaeda splinter group could topple the country’s fragile government while civil war rages in neighboring Syria, they said, offering a magnet for extremists from Iran and even western nations.

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – It´s perhaps appropriate that President Barack Obama is vacationing this weekend in California, where the state flag features a roaming grizzly. The restless president, who has compared himself to a caged animal on recent wanderings by declaring the "bear is loose," took a long Father´s Day weekend away with his wife and older daughter. The visit to the desert resort area of Palm Springs is one of the ways Obama has been trying to escape during his sixth year cloistered in the White House. "I think frankly we've all been through a cold and bitter winter and the bear has cabin fever,"

In the letter, the president called for Congressional authorization for this action. And this was the statement released by the Press Secretary’s office. Today, consistent with the War Powers Resolution, the President transmitted a report notifying the Congress that up to approximately 275 U.S. military personnel are deploying to Iraq to provide support and security for U.S. personnel and the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
