Ukrainian Minister Calls
Vladimir Putin a ‘Dickhead’

Mediaite, by Evan McMurry

Ukraine’s acting Foreign Minister Andriy Deshchytsia cut to the chase Sunday when he was overheard calling Russian President and 2005 Super Bowl champion Vladimir Putin a “dickhead.” Deshchytsia was attempted to calm an angry crowd that was attacking the Russian embassy following the downing of a Ukrainian jet by pro-Russia separatist forces, the deadliest incident in the standoff between Ukraine and Russia. “Yes, Putin is a dickhead,” he said, but countered: “We must fulfill our international obligations, including defending the right of Russia to have an embassy in Ukraine.” At the phrase “Putin khuilo,” which roughly translates to “dickhead” among a couple other

In an interview with National Public Radio’s David Folkenflik, former CBS investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson said that the network discouraged her from pursuing stories on the Obama administration, and seemingly lost interest in her government watchdog stories to the point that they kept them off the air. Here are some excerpts from Attkisson’s interview: “You know, times I’ve been encouraged to begin covering stories about the Obama administration but then mid-stream I’ve been clearly discouraged from continuing to pursue them as the stories seem to start to get dicey, or as I seem to be able to turn up very good

I heard two explosions, one after the other, indicating that two Kassam rockets had struck my town, Sderot, Israel, at about 1:30 last Thursday morning. Having been through the big fire of last week, when a Kassam ignited a paint factory, I looked out my window for any sign of fire. I saw none. I considered going out to look for the damage, but I knew nobody would be in the streets at that hour. Nobody would be able to direct me in the direction of the bombing. I listened for ambulance or fire-engine sirens, but I heard none. I

Last week, conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt interviewed Zach Carter, who is The Huffington Post‘s senior political economy reporter. The interview’s purpose was to discuss Carter’s negative response to Hewitt’s previous interview of former Vice President Dick Cheney. The interview was lively and interesting but it did not go well for Carter, who was forced to admit his ignorance of the historical context of the situation in Iraq. Looked at one way, the interview might almost seem like pointless point-scoring. In response to Hewitt’s questions, Carter admitted he didn’t know who Alger Hiss was and that he hadn’t read The Looming

Mail Online has apologised to George Clooney for publishing an inaccurate story about him, his fiancee and her mother. It has also taken down the article from its website and is planning to give the actor an "opportunity to set the record straight." The story, published originally by Mail Online and then published, in part, by the Daily Mail, stated that the mother of Amal Alamuddin, who is engaged to Clooney, had opposed their forthcoming marriage on religious grounds. Clooney issued a statement accusing the Mail of irresponsibility in publishing what he said was "a completely fabricated story." It stated that Alamuddin´s mother, Baria,

Mark Zuckerberg’s immigration reform push had all the capital, connections and star power to merit success. But not even Silicon Valley could make this investment — and the Facebook founder’s first foray into national politics — pay off. Tech leaders poured millions into FWD.us, an immigration advocacy group that has dominated ad buys, launched elaborate hackathons and coddled conservatives in an effort to revamp the country’s immigration system. It galloped into the debate with the tech industry’s classic certainty but wound up facing the same obstacles that have halted reform for decades.

Exploding shells and rockets rattled me awake in the early hours of a misty Tuesday morning in Saigon. I scrambled to my hotel roof and watched as fireballs, smoke and debris burst across the city’s famous airport — once one of the busiest in the world, now shut down as thousands desperate to evacuate jammed the hangars. As dawn arrived, people rushed to the rooftops of nearby buildings, staring in shock at the sudden, savage attack from artillery encircling the city. Two older military transport planes made an attempt to climb into the sky, slowly twisting and turning to escape

It was not so long ago that “The View” was a coveted destination on the presidential campaign circuit. Proving that one could play with Barbara Walters and the gang was a badge of cultural honor, one that Barack and Michelle Obama, among others, proudly wore. But now “The View” is a mess. Barbara has faded into retirement from the show she created, and in a messy housecleaning, only Whoopi Goldberg remains. The latest round of firings by ABC means that the franchise is in jeopardy. The program has been slipping. When I asked Walters why she was largely avoiding politics this season, she

The White House on Tuesday formally requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to deal with an influx of Central American minors along the southern border. But the proposal was quickly met with broad skepticism among Republican lawmakers, who were doubtful that the package would be approved quickly — if at all. Administration officials said the request is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at building more detention centers, adding immigration judges, and beefing up border patrols and air surveillance. President Obama has said he hopes such steps will both speed deportations and discourage adults from sending children on

Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis. The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns. But as the

Starting next week, House Republicans will launch a highly visible—and likely tumultuous—three-week process of bringing to the floor legislation to authorize their promised lawsuit against President Obama over his use of executive actions. "In theory, you could report out a resolution tomorrow and vote on it," said a House GOP aide on Tuesday. "But that is not the approach [the leaders] want to take." Rather, the aim is to display—if not actually engage in—a more deliberative process, even if amid controversy. This drawn-out script builds toward a potentially dramatic floor vote held just days, or even hours, before the House adjourns on

WASHINGTON — Congressional Democrats said Tuesday that they had developed legislation to override the Supreme Court decision on contraceptives. The bill would ensure that women have access to coverage for birth control even if they work for businesses that have religious objections. The bill, developed in consultation with the Obama administration, would require for-profit corporations like Hobby Lobby Stores to provide and pay for contraceptive coverage, along with other preventive services, under the Affordable Care Act. The measure could be on the Senate floor as early as next week, Senate Democrats said. “Your health care decisions are not your boss’s

Fate hasn´t been kind to Hillary Clinton, at least not in its most recent phase. In 2008, when the plate was set for the national Democrats, she lost the nomination to Barack Obama, of scant years and no gravitas, who soared out of nowhere to wrench destiny from her on the unspecified promise of "change." Now, "change" has come, and people don´t like it. Iraq changed from a safe, stable ally (just ask Obama) to a terrorist haven, one of the reasons why, though no fellow Democrats seem likely to edge her, her chances of winning the White House seem dim.
