An elderly man is ripped from his bed in the dead of night. Blindfolded, the last thing he feels is the blade slitting his throat. A taxi driver, made to kneel on the side of the road, trembling as a gun is put to his head and the trigger is pulled. In one summary execution, the bodies of five men are shown convulsing under the force of the bullets being fired into their backs. (Snip) “For seven years we lived in a prison. The people who have come now [ISIS], are better than the Maliki army,” Maher, 36, told the Telegraph. He wouldn’t reveal his name for fear putting his family in danger. “All of Mosul feels this way.”

CIA rendition jet was waiting
in Europe to Snatch Snowden
Register [UK], by Duncan Campbell    Original Article
Posted By: mark34- 6/14/2014 9:22:59 PM     Post Reply
As the whistleblowing NSA sysadmin Edward Snowden made his dramatic escape to Russia a year ago, a secret US government jet - previously employed in CIA "rendition" flights on which terror suspects disappeared into invisible "black" imprisonment - flew into Europe in a bid to spirit him back to America, the Register can reveal. On the evening of 24 June 2013, as Snowden arrived in Moscow from Hong Kong intending to fly on to Cuba, an unmarked Gulfstream V business jet - tail number N977GA - took off from a quiet commercial airport 30 miles from Washington DC. Four ways Edward Snowden changed the
world – and why the fight´s not over

Thursday marks one year since the Guardian published the first in a series of eye-opening stories about surveillance based on documents provided by Edward Snowden. The events in the 52 weeks since have proven him to be the most significant whistleblower in American history – and have reverberated throughout the world. But along with the changes Snowden sparked, vital questions remain about how and if the National Security Agency and its global spy apparatus will truly be reformed. Many wheels are finally in motion, but will the US Congress and the courts actually respond in a meaningful way?

Donald Sterling tells NBA

Banned Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling does not plan to pay the $2.5 million fine levied by the NBA, Sterling´s attorney wrote in a letter to the NBA, a person with first-hand knowledge of the letter told USA TODAY Sports. The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the letter, which was sent on Thursday. (Snip) Blecher, a well-known antitrust attorney, also contends that the fine violates Sterling´s due process rights and said the matter will need to settled in court. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver on April 29 fined Sterling $2.5 million and issued him a lifetime ban.

Former Iran official describes alleged

The former head of Iran´s nuclear program is laying out in detail how the U.S. and other intelligence agencies allegedly carried out a constant campaign of sabotage against his country. According to Fereydoon Abbasi, who spoke to an Iranian newspaper, the U.S. would prevent companies from sending equipment to Iran -- but would then put that kind of equipment on the black market, having ensured it would actually damage Iranian operations. He claims the U.S. would find out, via the U.N. nuclear agency, what parts Iran was trying to get and from whom, and plant everything from viruses to explosives

Iran requested on Monday a special meeting of a U.N. committee on the United States´ refusal to grant a visa to Tehran´s new U.N. ambassador appointee, but it has so far refrained from calling for any specific action, the committee´s chairman said. The United States said on Friday it would not grant a visa to Hamid Abutalebi because of his links to the 1979-1981 Tehran hostage crisis when radical Iranian students seized the U.S. Embassy and held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days. Abutalebi has said that he acted only as a translator. Iran has asked for a meeting of the U.N.

CIA and White House under pressure
after Senate torture report leaks
The Guardian (UK), by Spencer Ackerman    Original Article

A leak of the major findings of a landmark Senate inquiry into the CIA’s post-9/11 torture of terrorism detainees led, on Friday, to intensified pressure on the White House and the CIA to release the inquiry speedily and with a minimum of redactions. The classified study, prepared by the Senate select committee on intelligence, concluded that the CIA’s interrogations, secret detentions and outsourced torture sessions were “brutal, and far worse than the agency communicated to policymakers.” More suspected terrorists underwent the agency’s post-9/11 treatment, which largely lasted from 2002 to 2006, than the CIA has publicly admitted,

Despite recent tensions in relations between Israel and the United States, defense officials in the Jewish State are confident enough in the strength of the alliance to take on debt based on the expectation of future military aid. According to a Defense News report, Defense Minister Moshe Ya´alon has received government backing to purchase $2 billion in Pentagon-approved arms and aircraft, including the troubled V-22 tilt-rotor Osprey. After months of internal dialogue in the Finance Ministry and negotiations with the Pentagon´s defense contractors, Israel will enter into a US-approved deferred payment plan (DPP) to purchase the military

Top Jeb Bush adviser Mike Murphy, who did not even pay attention to Dave Brat´s campaign like Breitbart News did, has falsely been claiming that Cantor´s embrace of amnesty for illegal immigrants was not the reason he lost last Tuesday. Liberal writer Mickey Kaus had enough of Murphy´s nonsense and slammed him on Twitter on Friday evening. Kaus became Brat´s de facto press secretary and top advocate on Twitter in the last months of the campaign because Kaus, like Brat, opposes amnesty for illegal immigrants because it would hurt American workers. RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – It´s perhaps appropriate that President Barack Obama is vacationing this weekend in California, where the state flag features a roaming grizzly. The restless president, who has compared himself to a caged animal on recent wanderings by declaring the "bear is loose," took a long Father´s Day weekend away with his wife and older daughter. The visit to the desert resort area of Palm Springs is one of the ways Obama has been trying to escape during his sixth year cloistered in the White House. ISIS, the brutal insurgent/terrorist group formerly known as al Qaeda in Iraq, has seized much of western and northern Iraq and even threatens towns not far from Baghdad. From where did ISIS spring? One of George W. Bush´s most toxic legacies is the introduction of al Qaeda into Iraq, which is the ISIS mother ship. If this wasn´t so tragic it would be supremely ironic, because before the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, top Bush officials were insisting that there was an al Qaeda-Iraq axis of evil. Their claims that Saddam Hussein´s men were training members of al Qaeda how to

Anaheim, CA - President Obama, appearing emboldened after his recent move to cut carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants, on Saturday ridiculed members of Congress who deny climate change or plead scientific ignorance as an alibi for avoiding an uncomfortable truth. Speaking in gleefully sarcastic terms to a commencement ceremony at the University of California, Irvine, Mr. Obama likened those who deny climate change to people who would have told John F. Kennedy, at the dawn of the space program, that the moon “was made of cheese.” He saved his most scathing words for lawmakers who say they are not qualified to
