Just hours after he was released from prison because of a California jury´s error, an accused burglar was killed in a violent fight. "Thirty-seven-year-old Bobby Lee Pearson was accidentally released when a jury in Fresno, California, filled out a not guilty form instead of telling a judge they were deadlocked." (Via Fox News) "Police say that Willie Gray, the boyfriend of Pearson´s sister, killed him during a dispute when he returned home." (Via KGPE)KFSN reports Pearson had at least five felony convictions for domestic violence, being a felon in possession of a gun and other crimes. On his latest burglary

Comments:
So there were 3 forms for the CA jury and they couldn´t figure out which one was for hung. Are they responsible for his death?

Doesn´t the judge poll the jury following the reading of a verdict? Something like: Is this your verdict, so say one, so say you all?" Sounds familiar to me as having served on several juries. If their mistake slipped by the jurors following this, then I agree, they were far too stupid to sit in judgment of anyone. If the need arises in the future, I will definitely opt for a trial before a judge only !

However, I can only agree with previous posters ... Karma´s an itch-bay !

Apparently, voir dire kinda backfired on the defense. Seek out the dumbest individuals as ´´peers´´ and you end up getting your client released to face the real consequences of their past actions. I think in Texas, they have a saying...´´he needed killing´´. Society has a way of sweeping the streets clean.

Happy 158th birthday, Nikola Tesla. The anniversary of the Serbian-American inventor´s birth will be celebrated Thursday with cake and a flag-raising ceremony at his former laboratory in Shoreham, followed by discussions of his work at Shoreham-Wading River High School. Both events are free. Tesla, who was born July 10, 1856, in Croatia, has been credited with developing wireless technologies and devising some of the major components used in modern radio and electricity. Tesla achieved local fame in the early 20th century when he worked for about 12 years in a Shoreham lab called Wardenclyffe, at Route 25A and Randall Road.

If you’re an American, you might not flinch when you hear a certain bumpy green citrus fruit referred to as a kaffir lime. But in many parts of the world—most notably South Africa—the common moniker for the fruit, best known as an ingredient in Southeast Asian cooking, sounds heinously offensive. As Veronica Vinje recently pointed out on Straight.com, kaffir is “a horrible racial epithet, akin to using the N-word in North America.” So why are these limes called by that name? The K-word has a long, complex history, but how it came to refer to a type of citrus fruit is a bit murky. The Arabic word kafir was originally used to refer to

The White House on Tuesday formally requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to deal with an influx of Central American minors along the southern border. But the proposal was quickly met with broad skepticism among Republican lawmakers, who were doubtful that the package would be approved quickly — if at all. Administration officials said the request is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at building more detention centers, adding immigration judges, and beefing up border patrols and air surveillance. President Obama has said he hopes such steps will both speed deportations and discourage adults from sending children on

Starting next week, House Republicans will launch a highly visible—and likely tumultuous—three-week process of bringing to the floor legislation to authorize their promised lawsuit against President Obama over his use of executive actions. "In theory, you could report out a resolution tomorrow and vote on it," said a House GOP aide on Tuesday. "But that is not the approach [the leaders] want to take." Rather, the aim is to display—if not actually engage in—a more deliberative process, even if amid controversy. This drawn-out script builds toward a potentially dramatic floor vote held just days, or even hours, before the House adjourns on

Fate hasn´t been kind to Hillary Clinton, at least not in its most recent phase. In 2008, when the plate was set for the national Democrats, she lost the nomination to Barack Obama, of scant years and no gravitas, who soared out of nowhere to wrench destiny from her on the unspecified promise of "change." Now, "change" has come, and people don´t like it. Iraq changed from a safe, stable ally (just ask Obama) to a terrorist haven, one of the reasons why, though no fellow Democrats seem likely to edge her, her chances of winning the White House seem dim.
