2014 US Open: Zach Johnson
made an ace and it was awesome

CBS Sports, by Kyle Porter

Zach Johnson is 7 over through his first 63 holes of the tournament but he might have just had the non-knickers moment of the 2014 US Open with this ace. The celebration was my favorite part. I thought he was going to lay somebody out but he gave a high five to everybody on the 9th hole, instead. Strangely, Kenny Perry was playing with Johnson. Why is that strange? Because Perry was playing with Peter Jacobsen in 2005 when he made an ace in the third round of the US Open on the same hole.

The hole in one was nice, but watching the ball roll right off the green and into a sand trap after a short chip, time and again is taking the fun out of watching this.

The USGA is setting up its championship courses intelligently by shortening short par 4s to drivable lengths and cutting holes in gathering zones where a slightly wayward shot might track down a fall line into the hole. Makes for great spectating. Golf is an impossible game to master, but it´s nice to enable players to expand the zone of perfection, if only for one hole at a time. It´s nice to have a bite of steak to go with the vegetables.

The Survivor How Eric Holder

Why the hell is Eric Holder still around? That’s a question many of Barack Obama’s political advisers have asked at various points throughout Holder’s tumultuous five years at the helm of the Justice Department. For most of Obama’s presidency, in fact, if there’s been controversy, Holder was likely to be in the middle of it, from the failed efforts to close Guantánamo Bay and to prosecute alleged Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in a Manhattan court to his inability to send Wall Street executives involved in the mortgage meltdown to jail. His detractors in the West Wing of the

NOGALES, Ariz.— The U.S. government is preparing to open a new facility in rural New Mexico to hold hundreds of unaccompanied children arriving from Central America as state officials call on federal authorities to do more to stop the migration. "Dang it, the federal government has got a job to do," Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said Wednesday in Nogales, where she toured a southern Arizona facility housing nearly 1,000 children apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border. The surge of border crossings has strained the limits of existing resources, prompting the Republican governor to renew her criticism of the Obama administration´s immigration

Federal Appeals Court:
Gays Have Right to Marry
Associated Press, by Nicholas Riccardi & Brady McCombs    Original Article

DENVER— A federal appeals court ruled for the first time Wednesday that gay couples have a constitutional right to marry, extending the movement’s legal winning streak and bringing the issue a big step closer to the U.S. Supreme Court. The three-judge panel in Denver ruled 2-1 that states cannot deprive people of the fundamental right to marry simply because they choose a partner of the same sex. The court dismissed as ‘‘wholly illogical’’ the notion that allowing gays to wed could somehow undermine traditional marriage. The decision by the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel upheld a lower-court ruling

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen contributed more than $85,000 to Democratic candidates and committees, MRCTV research has discovered - with a $5,000 donation to President Obama in 2012 and $19,000 to the Democratic National Committee from 1988 to 2008. This may explain the fawning "thank yous" Koskinen received for his public service from many Democrats last night on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. "You know when you´ve got a person who´s given what you´ve given and been brought into difficult circumstances..." said Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) to Koskinen during last night´s

When Hillary Rodham Clinton stepped in front of a podium this week to announce an initiative to train and hire unemployed young Americans, the background was plastered with familiar corporate logos, including JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft and Courtyard Marriott. These are household names to many Americans, but to former President Bill Clinton and Mrs. Clinton, they are known as big-ticket entries in their personal checkbooks. Long before getting behind Mrs. Clinton’s latest public service effort, all three companies enriched Mr. Clinton with six-figure speaking fees that turned the 1990s Arkansas middle-class family into

Shrinkage: Economists are writing off the sharp 2.9% drop in first-quarter GDP as a temporary contraction. Maybe. What isn´t temporary is President Obama´s massively subpar growth record over the past five years. When the Commerce Department said two months ago the economy had eked out a 0.1% gain in the first quarter, the White House and various economists said growth would have been higher if not for the bitter winter. When Commerce revised that number down to -1% in May, the same crowd again blamed Jack Frost. Now that it turns out the economy contracted 2.9% in the first three

President Obama will make the first in a series of trips across the nation to meet ordinary Americans who have written him about their struggles and concerns when he travels to Minnesota on Thursday. The summertime campaign-style travel, which comes as focus is intensifying on the coming midterm elections, will see the president tour communities and hold town-hall meetings on his domestic agenda. (Snip) And Obama will also have an opportunity to fundraise outside of Washington, D.C. On Thursday, the president will appear at a fundraiser benefitting the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. According to an aide, Obama has at least

Hillary Clinton doesn´t need anyone going to bat for her reputation, she said in an interview airing Wednesday - not even her husband Bill. "I shouldn´t have said the five or so words that I said," the former secretary of state conceded to "PBS NewsHour" host Gwen Ifill, referring to a comment she made that her irrefutably privileged family was "dead broke" upon its departure from the White House. "But my unartful use of those few words doesn´t change who I am, what I´ve stood for my entire life, what I stand for today." After a tumultuous couple of weeks

NEW YORK- A Chicago-area lawyer and accountant labeled by the government as history´s most prolific and unrepentant tax cheat was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison, and the judge bemoaned the "incredible greed" of some of America´s wealthiest people for taking advantage of the tax shelters he peddled. The lawyer, Paul M. Daugerdas, 63, was ordered to pay nearly a half-billion dollars in restitution and forfeit $164 million in cash and property, including a lakefront Wisconsin home, after he was convicted at trial last year of conspiracy, tax evasion and mail fraud. He must report to prison Sept. 18.

The Republican National Committee has selected Cleveland and Dallas as finalists to host the 2016 Republican National Convention. Denver and Kansas City were eliminated. RNC Site Selection Committee Chairwoman Enid Mickelsen issued a statement: “After extensive review the site selection committee has chosen Cleveland and Dallas as finalists for the 2016 convention. Cleveland and Dallas demonstrated their ability to host a phenomenal convention in 2016, and the RNC is excited about the prospect of hosting our convention in either of these great cities. After visiting both cities, I can say to my fellow Republicans that we should be excited for

Does the federal government have any systems at all to back its email archives? Maybe not, because the Environmental Protection Agency is now using the same excuse as the IRS is using in response to a Congressional subpoena: the computer ate our homework. In a hearing Wednesday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy said the agency was still trying to recover the emails from a now-retired employee who was involved in a controversial EPA evaluation of a proposed mine project in Alaska´s Bristol Bay. Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., asked McCarthy: "Were all of his

(Video) The White House press office misspelled the name of President Ronald Reagan twice in an email announcing President Obama’s Wednesday schedule. “Later in the evening, the President will deliver remarks at the League of Conservation Voters Capital Dinner at the Ronald Regan (sic) Building and International Trade Center. This event is open to pre-credentialed media,” the email said, The Weekly Standard reported. The email again misspelled “Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center” in the 7:10 time slot on the president’s schedule. The White House’s online post of the president’s schedule also remained misspelled as of Wednesday
