´Devotedly, Dad´: Special letters from
my father, President George H.W. Bush

Fox News, by Dorothy Doro Bush Koch

Original Article

Posted By:Pluperfect, 6/15/2014 9:40:06 AM

This week I nervously watched my 90-year-old father parachute from a plane in Kennebunkport, Maine. I guess I should not have been surprised. He was the youngest pilot in World War II and now he is probably one of the oldest skydivers. He has always been a risk-taker, brave and courageous in my eyes. Throughout his life, he never shied away from taking bold steps. Whether it was serving in the military or as president of the United States, my father wanted to greatly contribute to our nation and to lead effectively. For my father, it was never so much about soaring rhetoric as it was about practicing what you preach.

What a beautiful piece. Thanks for posting this, OP.

FOX News aired a beautiful segment Friday evening, "The Bush Family Album", about George H.W. When one looks at the legacy of this family, their devotion to one another, the honoring of parents, the accomplishments of H.W. -- I mean everything-- and then contrast that to our current POTUS´ "legacy", there is absolutely no comparison. It´s shocking, really, and sad. How far we have fallen.

I made the mistake of scrolling through the comments below the article. There are some very sick people on the internet these days. This was a special tribute by a daughter to a father she loves very much. These commenters must have had miserable childhoods and must be abusive parents themselves. Our nation is falling apart day by day.

Yes #2 America is falling apart every day, deliberately, and the Bush´s, classy however, remain silent out of "respect" for the office. I for one have grown tired of the Bush´s and wish they would just disappear. Maybe Bush should take up golf more.

#3 If President Bush goes public and criticizes Barry-
he becomes the story .
The heat will be off Barry and the media focus will switch
to President Bush , WMD, Iraq war , etc, etc.
You know that Obama fervently wishes that President Bush
will speak out so all attention can be trained on Bush
instead of all his catastrophic failures.
I´m sure privately President Bush is apoplectic
because he took every death of US soldiers personally.
The Washington Times had a wonderful article
on December 22 ,2008 " Bush, Cheney comforted troops privately " which described the hidden and private outreach
both men extended to the families of the fallen
and the wounded.
President Bush spent " hundreds of hours " comforting the wounded and the families of the fallen without informing a single member of the media.
Obama spends hundreds of hours on the golf course.
President Bush wrote personal letters of condolence.
Obama uses a form letter
and an auto pen and signs them Barack.
He did however write a personal note to Michael Jackson´s family after he died.
And had it specially delivered.
The Fox special on President GHW Bush , narrated by Brit Hume was revealing in that many of
his accomplishments and decency
were hidden and unpublicized.
I´ll never understand the dripping hatred of President GHW Bush and
President GW Bush by both the far left
and unfortunately, the far right.

If you haven’t caught World Cup fever yet, this video may just do the trick. After a nail-biting series of matches in the group round, the United States soccer team will make their entrance in the knockout round on Tuesday afternoon. They will be taking on Belgium, which won all three games in its group round. The U.S. shed its underdog status last week, when it got out of a group that everyone said it wouldn’t. Now, with the rest of the world rooting for the other side, the players on Team USA plan to flip the script.

An alarming report released last week by Doctors Without Borders said that West Africa’s current Ebola outbreak is “out of control.” That should shock the governments of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia into action. It marks a frightening moment for a disease that has been contained numerous times before. The outbreak, already the deadliest in history, had killed almost 400 people as of Thursday. It began in March but then slowed, causing the Guinean president to declare to the World Health Organization (WHO) in April that “the situation is well in hand.” But all was not well, and complacency led to

ATLANTA — Mark Mayfield, a respected lawyer and tea party operative in Mississippi, has died after being accused of taking part in an unseemly, Watergate-like conspiracy to undermine long-time Sen. Thad Cochran’s campaign. No foul play is suspected around the self-inflicted gunshot wound, local police said. Mr. Mayfield left a note behind, but authorities have not released it. A tea party group board member, Mayfield had worked to get Sen. Cochran’s challenger Chris McDaniel elected. On Tuesday, Cochran narrowly won the primary. Mr. McDaniel has denied involvement, and has not been implicated in the scheme to photograph Cochran´s wife at a nursing

It has become a familiar lament, and a panel on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday reproduced it perfectly: Why does President Barack Obama seem so ill-equipped to meet the challenges of the moment. Amid sagging job approval ratings, prompted by a series of crises abroad and an economic recovery that more closely resembles a new recession, a panel of political veterans pondered all the reasons why Obama seems to be floundering. Vanity Fair’s Todd Purdum, the author of a book on the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, was asked by CBS host Bob Schieffer whether Obama has the mastery

WASHINGTON - A Marine who was declared a deserter nearly 10 years ago after disappearing in Iraq and then returning to the U.S. claiming he had been kidnapped, only to disappear again, is back in U.S. custody, officials said Sunday. Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun, 34, turned himself in and was being flown Sunday from an undisclosed location in the Middle East to Norfolk, Virginia. He is to be moved Monday to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, according to a spokesman, Capt. Eric Flanagan. Maj. Gen. TOKYO -- North Korea said Monday it is preparing to try two Americans who entered the country as tourists for carrying out what it says were hostile acts against the country. Though a small number of U.S. citizens visit North Korea each year as tourists, the State Department strongly advises against it. Investigations into Americans Matthew Todd Miller and Jeffrey Edward Fowle concluded that suspicions about their hostile acts have been confirmed by evidence and their testimonies, Pyongyang´s official Korean Central News Agency said in a short report. KCNA said North Korea is making preparations to bring them before a court. It

The central plains have seen some relief this spring with bands of heavy rains moving through, but the 2014 season has been the exception rather than the norm. The 2012 – 2013 drought season saw more and more people having trouble accessing potable ground water, or even sufficient moisture for agriculture. It’s long been known that this problem is exacerbated by expanding corn production, driven by a need to feed the government mandated ethanol market. But a recent study from an unusual source sheds some new light on this situation. The source for this study actually is the interesting part, as

Some commentators (Simon Jenkins, for example) say that the ISIS threat is exaggerated. As I outlined prior to the ISIS march on Mosul, that assessment is wrong. Supplied by a deep well of European recruits, supported by a war chest worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and driven by pure hatred, ISIS poses a major transnational threat. Because of its pernicious reshaping of regional political dynamics, ISIS must be challenged. That being said, over the long term ISIS is unlikely to retain control over vast swaths of Iraq and Syria. Here are three interconnected reasons why. CLASHING IDEOLOGIES Let’s be clear: The crisis in

NASA’s “flying saucer” device made a hard landing in the Pacific Ocean on Saturday, ending what the space agency deemed a successful test after attempts earlier in June were cancelled due to high winds. A large helium balloon lifted the device, called a low-density supersonic decelerator, 120,000 feet. During its descent, an inflatable so-called “doughnut” apparatus functioned properly, but a newly-designed supersonic parachute failed to deploy, causing the rough landing. NASA will hold a teleconference Sunday to release initial data from the test. The trial, which began at the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kauai, Hawaii, took about three

The Keystone Pipeline project was expected to create tens of thousands of high paying jobs in the oil industry. The project itself would create 20,000 construction jobs. And the pipeline would bring oil from Canada and North Dakota to refineries in the United States. The proposed project would have extended from Alberta, Canada to Illinois, transporting approximately 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Estimated cost is $1.7 billion. But Obama rejected the plan in 2011 and 2014. Democrats are beholden to the radical green movement – the poor and middle class be damned. Now this… Canada pulled the plug on Keystone and will

Here, in another exclusive excerpt, Klein describes how Bill’s health is a preoccupation of the Clintons. A pair of black, armor-plated SUVs swung into a suburban cul-de-sac and crunched to a stop in the driveway of the Clintons’ home in Chappaqua, New York. President Obama appears to have an Agenda for America that stinks worse than a Border Patrol bus depot crammed with urine-drenched illegals. On January 29, 2014, the Department of Homeland Security advertised for a vendor to escort 65,000 “unaccompanied alien children,” indicating that they not only knew the alien invasion was coming, they planned it.

Hillary Clinton is just too unlikable (remember that Barack Obama called her “likable enough” in one of the most memorable back handed compliments of recent political memory), and too transparently greedy, self-serving, and out of touch. Not to mention the appalling foreign affairs crises the United States faces in the wake of her term as Secretary of State. Her brand is tarnished. In a hastily scheduled statement this afternoon from the White House Rose Garden, Obama said he would ´greatly prefer´ Congress passing any sort of immigration reform legislation, even if it wasn´t the bill he supports, but he was done sitting around waiting for that to happen. The president said his administration would ´refocus´ its efforts on the border, and he would use his ´existing legal authority´ to do ´what Congress refuses to do´ and fix the broken immigration system.
