Kiev, Ukraine - The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said Saturday that pro-Russian separatists shot down a large military transport plane in the country´s unsettled east and that service personnel aboard were killed. The statement on the ministry´s website says the plane was downed at night as it approached an airport at Lugansk. The statement did not say how many people were on board the Il-76 transport plane, which was carrying service members as well as equipment and food. The statement said that the rebels "cynically and perfidiously" downed the plane using anti-aircraft guns and heavy caliber machine guns. It expressed sympathy

Comments:
This fighting will only get uglier and there is no way they can possibly beat the Russians. 0bama´s fault for not protecting them under our treaty agreements.

Beirut - Fears continue to spread in Lebanon about the presence of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) after the Sunni militant group claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s attack on a central Beirut hotel, the third such attack in two weeks. The militant group has expanded its operations in both Syria and Iraq, giving rise to fears that it could also seek to start an insurgency against the Lebanese government at a time when the country still has no president. In a statement published on Friday, ISIS announced that a Saudi suicide bomber had attacked the Duroy Hotel in central Beirut. Three police officers were wounded in the attack.

A California man decided to turn the fear that drones will be abused by law enforcement officials on its head by using the technology to monitor police behavior. “I don’t think it’s a substitute for a hand-held camera, but it’s definitely a complement,” Daniel Saulmon of Torrance told the Los Angeles Times. Mr. Saulmon said he has been filming police behavior with the technology for a month, typically monitoring DUI checkpoints to make sure police aren’t abusing their power. He added that he is careful not to run afoul of any laws while filming. “I have to use common sense with it,” Saulmon said. “It’s easy to fly.

It begins in the morning. The victim awakens feeling unwell. They’re without appetite. Their head aches. Sore throat. Fever. Chills. (Snip) The danger has never been greater in West Africa as the worst Ebola outbreak on record continues its deadly sweep of jungles and cities, hopping national borders and frustrating hundreds of doctors who parachuted in to vanquish the disease but have so far failed. As of Thursday, the pandemic with a 90 percent mortality rate has killed more than 367 people and afflicted 635 more in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, where it is believed to have begun. The toll is greater than the 280 dead in 1976,

Barnes & Noble, the struggling bookseller, saw its shares jump 8% Wednesday after saying it will spin off its Nook digital book business. The Nook business, which produced digital readers that were a constant also-ran versus offerings from Amazon, Google and Apple, required heavy investments from the company that it was ill-prepared to afford. Shares are up $2.13, or 10%, to $22.69 on the news. Former presidential contender Newt Gingrich has found a similarity between former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and reality television starlet Kim Kardashian: Neither dances well in front of others. Mr. Gingrich found the likeness while discussing on CNN’s “Crossfire” former President Bill Clinton’s defense of his wife and her comments that the family was “dead broke” when they exited the White House. “You have to understand the problem Bill Clinton has,” Mr. Gingrich said, Politico reported. “Bill is to politics what Fred Astaire is to dancing — he is just automatically amazing and he wants to have Ginger Rogers

Two senior Veterans Affairs Department officials will be stepping down this week as a personnel overhaul continues in the wake of the resignation of former VA secretary Eric K. Shinseki. Will Gunn, who has served as VA general counsel since 2009, will be stepping down from a job he’s held since the start of the Obama administration. And Robert Jesse, currently the acting undersecretary for the Veterans Health Administration, will be stepping down and rejoining the department’s medical ranks. The forthcoming changes are according to two people familiar with the shakeup who were not authorized to speak publicly about them.

On what she expects will be the "most exciting day of her life" next month, Jaclyn Cubillas will probably be working on a lush Northern California vineyard, surrounded by grapes destined to become fine Syrah and Zinfandel. Buenos Aires, Argentina - President Cristina Fernandez said Argentina can´t comply with U.S. court orders to pay $1.5 billion to winners of a decade-long legal battle over defaulted debt, the position her country was left in Monday when the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear her government´s final appeal. Delivering a nationally broadcast address Monday night, Fernandez expressed willingness to negotiate with the winners, but said there is simply no way that Argentina can pay in cash, in full, starting just two weeks from now, which is what the U.S. courts have ordered. "What I cannot do as president is submit the country to such extortion,"

Bears, beer and horse heads: What exactly is going on with the leader of the free world? On a single day this week in Denver, President Obama scarfed down pizza and drinks with strangers, shot pool with Colorado’s governor and shook hands with a guy on the street wearing a horse mask. His top staffers are promoting these stops on Twitter with the hashtag #TheBearIsLoose — a term one of Obama’s aides coined in 2008 when the candidate would defy his schedule. It’s true what they say about Michelle Obama. She has amazing arms. I saw this up close when she unfurled her bare right limb in front of me Thursday night, while the two of us were doing tapas at the jumping Barcelona on 14th Street NW. Clearly the first lady works out, clearly she moisturizes and clearly L’Oréal should hire her as its pitchwoman after she leaves 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. “Ma’am, you rock,” I wanted to tell her, even though I was seated a table away from her party of eight, which included White House chef Sam Kass, and was

That was when their adventure of a lifetime turned into a nightmare. It began with a fever, then a rash and then Lyra became lethargic. Glenn Beck has set up Mercury One Children and Family Border Relief Fund to help illegals coming into the United States. He’s already raised $600,000. Beck stated that Obama would not have to step in and ask for $3.7 billion if private charities would pick up the slack and give to the swarm of illegals crossing the border. Is he kidding? Do we really need more churches and non-profits enabling this blatant attack on America? Rich people and liberal elite billionaires have no skin in the game when it comes to the consequences of illegal immigration so what do they care? It’s the working class and middle class who will take the hit.

The facts are simple. The IRS systematically targeted conservative and Tea Party groups after their activism proved decisive in the 2010 midterm elections—Obama’s famous “shellacking.” The effects of this targeting were widespread. Some Tea Party groups were neutered in the months before the 2012 presidential election. Few of the explanations or justifications of this targeting provided by IRS leaders and Obama administration officials have held up. IRS officials at first denied that any targeting had taken place. That was false. They later claimed that the targeting had involved only low-level employees in the Cincinnati office. That was false. They argued
