Amid Iraq Crisis, Kerry Recites Poetry
Daily Caller, by Neil Munro

Original Article

Jihadis are advancing on Baghdad, and yet the nation’s foreign policy chief today flew to London for the chance to recite a poem by Maya Angelou. “Out of the huts of history’s shame / I rise / Up from a past that’s rooted in pain / I rise,” Secretary of State John Kerry intoned at the “Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict.” Kerry’s poetic foray capped off his scheduled speech at the long-planned summit, where activists and diplomats met to push for new spending programs to curb rape in warfare. “Thousands of years after rape was written into the lexicon of

I should be used to this utter and complete incompetence, but I just can´t stand it. Iraq is under attack and disintegrating and Kerry is reciting poetry and Obama is golfing and campaigning. It sure makes me feel safe and secure. NOT.

Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict? I´m sure Kerry and that group are doing everything they possibly can to protect women and children in Iraq. Maybe the Muslim soldiers have agreed not to behead the women until after they have raped them.

Juliet Eilperin at the Washington Post gained some amount of notoriety earlier this year after she penned an embarrassing and now-debunked attack on Charles and David Koch, the libertarian-leaning bogeymen of the left. And now she has authored what may be this year´s silliest puff piece for the Obama administration. His second term halfway over, President Obama is “trying to free himself from the constraints of office,” Eilperin wrote in an article on the front page of Friday´s paper. And despite Obama´s many critics who have questioned the wisdom of him crisscrossing the country to attend Democratic fundraisers rather than sort out the

Dick Cheney threw his support behind a candidate in Nevada. Rudy Giuliani and Donald Trump hosted a fundraiser for one in Florida. As President Obama finds himself accused by Republicans of executive overreach, prominent conservatives are emphasizing the importance of getting Republicans elected to attorney general in states across the country. “President Obama has proven he’s willing to violate all laws and the Constitution to enact his radical agenda,” Jessica Medeiros Garrison, the executive director of the group the Republican Attorneys General Association, told The Daily Caller. “That puts the attorneys general on the front lines to stop his power grab.” Well-known Republicans

A prominent Democrat on the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security seems to have two different interpretations of the situation at the southern U.S. border where tens of thousands of illegal immigrants from Central America have been apprehended. “I disagree it is in devastating condition,” Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee said of what some are calling a “border crisis” in an interview Thursday with MSNBC. “I think with now 21,000 border patrol agents is under control.” But her statement seems to contradict the one currently on Jackson Lee’s congressional website. “She believes that our country currently has deficient border security,

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Friday said it has closed two laboratories and halted some shipments of dangerous disease samples after discovering new safety breaches, including one that involved the dangerous avian flu. The CDC, which is already under fire for safety mishaps involving live anthrax, said samples that were sent in March to the Department of Agriculture for research were contaminated with the highly infections virus H5N1. The flu samples from the Roybal Campus in Atlanta were destroyed as soon as the CDC realized the mistake. CDC Director Thomas Frieden said he didn’t learn about the incident

The White House budget office on Friday projected the 2014 budget deficit would be $583 billion, about $66 billion less than projected earlier this year. In the mid-session review by the Office of Management and Budget, the administration found the deficit would be 3.4 percent of GDP and nearly $1 billion less than last year’s deficit. Acting OMB Director Brian Deese touted the recent decline in unemployment as a factor in the lower deficit projection. “Businesses have added nearly 10 million new jobs over the past 52 months,” he wrote in a blog post. Deese also cited rising home prices as lifting more

Remember those civics courses that taught "how a bill becomes a law"? Well, they need a follow-up called "how a law becomes a sham." The lesson would focus on the ways in which Congress — usually amid an uproar over some particularly sleazy activity — bars behavior that most people would know is wrong, law or no law. Later, when nobody´s looking, Congress backtracks. The latest example is the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act, which explicitly bars lawmakers and staffers from spreading or trading on inside information. The law passed in 2012 only after CBS´ 60 Minutes aired

Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis. The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns. But as the

President Obama’s ultimate weakness may be that he believes his own blarney. A year ago, Mr. Obama boasted in a “fireside” Web chat that his “is the most transparent administration in history.” There was not the slightest hint of irony. He may actually believe it. In a testy letter to the president on Tuesday, the group decried the “slick non-answers” and cold shoulders they’re getting from Mr. Obama’s representatives, who have restricted access to any information they consider embarrassing to the administration. “The stifling of free expression,” the signers
