Exclusive: Bergdahl Explains in
Prison Letters Why He Vanished

Daily Beast, by Kimberly Dozier

Original Article

Writing from a Taliban “prison,” Bowe Bergdahl urged his family and his government to wait until they had all the facts before judging him for leaving his base. Then Bergdahl explained, at least in part, why he left his fellow troops in 2009.“Leadership was lacking, if not non-existent. The conditions were bad and looked to be getting worse for the men that where actuly (sic) the ones risking thier (sic) lives from attack,” he writes in a letter dated March 23, 2013 and obtained by The Daily Beast. It’s one of two letters sent by Bergdahl to his parents during

OP Comment:

The letters were given to the Daily Beast by someone in contact with the Taliban. They have been verified by U.S. officials as being the same letters he sent to his parents via the International Red Cross.

Yup, he deserted all right. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going? Not him. He abandoned the unit and his comrade died looking for him. Execution is the proper sentence.

I can´t buy this. Everyone else to a man in his unit says that other than the one Officer and one NCO that were recognized as being incompetent and replace by the Senior leadership. Says that the Leadership was great.
I think that he one of those guys that show up from time to time in every unit that has no business being there, much less in uniform. It got tough and he did not like it so he he just check him self out. That make him at best, a deserter and probably a traitor.
The lest he should get out of this, is life with out parole, in Leavenworth.

"The handwriting in the two letters—one from 2012 and one from 2013—does not match,
and the 2012 letter in particular transitions from greetings to the family into a long, rambling, almost lyrical philosophical missive about God and nature."

The many spelling errors are grotesque.
In addition to his pathetic rationale for desertion .
I suspect his Taliban buddies helped him compose his letters.

Those who question is airy-fairy philosophical meanerings, and his pathetic spelling, did not read the journal that was posted here the other day. Those are his meanderings and misspellings, and I´ll bet the varying handwriting is all his as well.

This guy is all over the map. On the one hand he faults his military leaders for not leading, thus causing him and his high ideals to desert and walk off his guard post in the night.

Some have said he wanted to go and "help the Afghan people" as though the U.S. Army was the Peace Corps. But men in his unit said he was bored that there was not a real war going on. That he hated just standing/sitting around. But then he was photographed asleep on duty in an armored vehicle. (Presumably he and the vehicle could have been picked off then.) So his punishment was to serve extra duty on a guard post. And he walked away.

These are the actions of a misfit who failed home schooling, rambled around like a rolling stone, was always welcomed home and forgiven because of his boyish charm, etc., ete. Enablers populated his life.

I don´t think he is a mental case. Just a very spoiled underachieving brat.

It will be difficult not to wonder how much of Bowe´s "writings" were actually written by Bowe now that he has been sucked into the spin machine.

However, the fact that he chose the name "Wandering Monk" on social media, and was said by his friends to talk about and attempt to begin various grand adventures that never seemed to pan out (French Foreign Legend, Coast Guard, etc.) makes me wonder if joining the military was simply another part of that grand adventure. He could have used the military to get him to where he wanted to be. He probably planned to desert at some point all along. Learning Pashtun while everyone else socialized would certainly be helpful if that were the case.

In an email exchange with a friend (privy to his plans of deserting from the beginning?) shortly before he actually deserted:

“Just don’t do anything stupid or pointless,” Kayla wrote back.

“you know I plan better then that,” Bergdahl wrote back.

In a file titled “If i’ve died_READ” dated June 8, Bergdahl wrote about the reality of his life as a soldier and the idea of a life as a “storyteller.”

If he wants fame he´s got it in spades, and this just may be the adventure of a lifetime for Bowe Bergdahl. But this part of the story is going to be written by the Obama Administration, because he has become part of the story of another "storyteller" [http://www.americanthinker.com/2013/09/obama_the_storyteller.html] who happens to be POTUS.
