Elites Beware: Eric Cantor´s Defeat
May Signal a Populist Revolution

National Journal, by Ron Fournier

Original Article

WEST CHESTER, Pa.—Expecting House Majority Leader Eric Cantor to win his GOP primary in Virginia, I spent Election Day in Pennsylvania—interviewing angry Republicans, Democrats, and independents about the rise of political populism. I was in the wrong state, but I had the right topic. Cantor´s defeat has less to do with immigration reform than it does with an uneven movement that should frighten conservative and liberal political elites to their shallow cores. Americans see a grim future for themselves, their children, and their country. They believe their political leaders are selfish, greedy, and short-sighted—unable and/or unwilling to shield most people

Yes.
And?
Those of us in flyover country (I live 20 miles from the WH) are sick and tired of being disrespected. My two Senators and my Representative represent K Street, not me. They work untiringly for the latest progressive government program, ignoring all the government programs they have supported in the past that have bled money and done nothing.
Eric Cantor lost his District before he lost his primary. He drank the Kool-Aid, said one former constituent.
Throw the bums (all of them) out. Let us start over, with term limits.

The essence of the problem is the incessant move to the left. Republicans have not gained back any ground they ceded to Crony Capitalists and leftists. It requires educating these voters.

BTW, I found it interesting that one of the women was complaining about being on the verge of losing her house but was eating lunch out. Unless someone bought her lunch, seems like her priorities may be a bit mixed up.

Oh please, the world is not coming to an end just because Cantor was defeated. Only the inside-the-beltway crew could spend that much time and effort coming up with excuses for the defeat and for the future. Yes, he held an important position and I don´t know if Mr. Brat can fill the seat from Virginia. Maybe it is time to clean house and this is a start. We elect individuals because they are good for the country or at least that´s the way it should be. The Washington elite think the only way to govern is to get your friends and similar-thinking people elected so that you can all get your perks. It´s a big country club that will end America as we have known it.

In the animated movie "A Bug´s Life" the bad grasshopper points out - one rebellious ant was an annoyance. But if ALL the ants ever figured out that they did NOT have to gather food for the grasshoppers...well, that would be a serious problem indeed. Perhaps we ants are getting a clue...

In an interview with National Public Radio’s David Folkenflik, former CBS investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson said that the network discouraged her from pursuing stories on the Obama administration, and seemingly lost interest in her government watchdog stories to the point that they kept them off the air. Here are some excerpts from Attkisson’s interview: “You know, times I’ve been encouraged to begin covering stories about the Obama administration but then mid-stream I’ve been clearly discouraged from continuing to pursue them as the stories seem to start to get dicey, or as I seem to be able to turn up very good

I heard two explosions, one after the other, indicating that two Kassam rockets had struck my town, Sderot, Israel, at about 1:30 last Thursday morning. Having been through the big fire of last week, when a Kassam ignited a paint factory, I looked out my window for any sign of fire. I saw none. I considered going out to look for the damage, but I knew nobody would be in the streets at that hour. Nobody would be able to direct me in the direction of the bombing. I listened for ambulance or fire-engine sirens, but I heard none. I

Last week, conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt interviewed Zach Carter, who is The Huffington Post‘s senior political economy reporter. The interview’s purpose was to discuss Carter’s negative response to Hewitt’s previous interview of former Vice President Dick Cheney. The interview was lively and interesting but it did not go well for Carter, who was forced to admit his ignorance of the historical context of the situation in Iraq. Looked at one way, the interview might almost seem like pointless point-scoring. In response to Hewitt’s questions, Carter admitted he didn’t know who Alger Hiss was and that he hadn’t read The Looming

The story, published originally by Mail Online and then published, in part, by the Daily Mail, stated that the mother of Amal Alamuddin, who is engaged to Clooney, had opposed their forthcoming marriage on religious grounds. Clooney issued a statement accusing the Mail of irresponsibility in publishing what he said was "a completely fabricated story." It stated that Alamuddin´s mother, Baria,

Mark Zuckerberg’s immigration reform push had all the capital, connections and star power to merit success. But not even Silicon Valley could make this investment — and the Facebook founder’s first foray into national politics — pay off. Tech leaders poured millions into FWD.us, an immigration advocacy group that has dominated ad buys, launched elaborate hackathons and coddled conservatives in an effort to revamp the country’s immigration system. It galloped into the debate with the tech industry’s classic certainty but wound up facing the same obstacles that have halted reform for decades.

In 1976, the summer after my freshman year in college, I attended the Clarion Science Fiction Writers’ Workshop on the bucolic grounds of Michigan State University. It was a six-week program, chaired each week by a different published author. The two dozen or so attendees came from all over the country, most of them beginners like me. At the opening cocktail party I met a hip but very serious young man named Paul who looked like he had just walked off a commune (which I’m pretty sure he had): macrobiotically starved, with stringy hair, what looked like tree moss growing on

Exploding shells and rockets rattled me awake in the early hours of a misty Tuesday morning in Saigon. I scrambled to my hotel roof and watched as fireballs, smoke and debris burst across the city’s famous airport — once one of the busiest in the world, now shut down as thousands desperate to evacuate jammed the hangars. As dawn arrived, people rushed to the rooftops of nearby buildings, staring in shock at the sudden, savage attack from artillery encircling the city. Two older military transport planes made an attempt to climb into the sky, slowly twisting and turning to escape

It was not so long ago that “The View” was a coveted destination on the presidential campaign circuit. Proving that one could play with Barbara Walters and the gang was a badge of cultural honor, one that Barack and Michelle Obama, among others, proudly wore. But now “The View” is a mess. Barbara has faded into retirement from the show she created, and in a messy housecleaning, only Whoopi Goldberg remains. The latest round of firings by ABC means that the franchise is in jeopardy. The program has been slipping. When I asked Walters why she was largely avoiding politics this season, she

Sarah Palin wants to impeach Barack Obama. In an op-ed article published last week, the former Republican vice presidential nominee declared that the crisis on the southern border (where young illegal immigrants are being detained) "is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, ´No, mas´." The Republican Speaker of the House, John Boehner, thinks that´s loco. (Technically, he said, "I disagree".) For Republicans hoping to avoid the kind of drama that might derail what looks to be a very good midterm election year, this kind of call is both a nuisance and a trend.
