Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was held for five years by an Islamic insurgent group in Afghanistan before the controversial barter that brought him freedom, was discharged from the Coast Guard two years before joining the Army, The Washington Post reports. The Post said it obtained a copy of Bergdahl´s records from a Bergdahl friend, Kim Harrison, who received them from the Army after Bergdahl was taken prisoner in 2009. According to the records, Bergdahl received an "uncharacterized discharge" from the Coast Guard after 26 days of basic training in 2006. Such discharges, according to Coast Guard regulations, involve separation for those

Comments:
Quite an oaf from the beginning. The army has only itself to blame for taking him a second time. What were they thinking?

Answer this for me--if Bergdahl was against these wars we are fighting, why did he join the Army?

Bennies. Bennies. Bennies. It´s all about the bennies. Plus, imagine him trying to get a job in the private sector, how much do you think he´d be worth to an employer, particularly in the Obama Economy with 24% youth unemployment. He wouldn´t be the one chosen.

...excuse me, but based on quotes from his journal, discussing ´voices´ and the ´darkness´ he deals with, it doesn´t take much thought on why, perhaps, that he was discharged from the Coast Guard...

...as for "unorthodox" spelling, it´s called bad grammar...

Good grief, what a f´ing loser. How do you wash out of the Coast Guard and even remotely think you have the right stuff for the Army? Am I the only one that thinks Bergdahl is just plain nuts?

Here’s my solution to halt
tide of illegal immigrants

There’s a very simple solution to this Obamanation that’s occurring on the southern border. Enforce the law. By which I mean, deport them. Deport them all, not just the latest huddled masses yearning to live for free, forever, in Section 8 housing on EBT cards. No, we must deport all of the 12 or 20 or 30 million illegal aliens who are turning this country into a Third World flophouse. Can we do it? Yes, we can. A few years back, Marsha Coakley famously said, “Technically, it’s not illegal to be illegal in Massachusetts.” The ways things are going, it won’t be long before

Tuxpan (Mexico) - A North Korean freighter that sailed from Havana has run aground off the Mexican port of Tuxpan on the Gulf of Mexico, officials said. The ship, Mu Du Bong, sailed from Havana and ran around Monday 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) from the port access, and there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, said Veracruz state civil defense emergency chief Ricardo Maza. Maza said the accident happened when the captain was disoriented. He said that the ship was said to be empty but carries 6,500 tonnes so "getting it off the gulf floor will require some specialized work"

McALLEN, Tex. — Jose Antonio Vargas, an undocumented Filipino immigrant who is arguably the most high-profile leader of the immigrants’ rights movement, was detained Tuesday morning at a Border Patrol checkpoint in the airport here before he could board a flight to Houston. He was handcuffed and taken for processing to the McAllen Border Patrol station, which has been teeming in recent weeks with undocumented immigrants from Central America, part of a wave of migrants who have been streaming over the border. Illegal immigrants are being secretly flown to Massachusetts and kept in local lockups in an under-the-radar operation that has alarmed lawmen who are raising health and security concerns amid recent spikes in detainees coming up from Texas during the latest border crisis. “We’re all becoming border sheriffs now with these people being carted all over the country,” said Bristol County Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson. “The blame goes all the way up. It’s a travesty and people ought to be upset,” Hodgson said. “This is un-American and has raised the stakes to the public health and public safety threat.” Hodgson said buses from his

Rio de Janeiro - Brazilians bitter about their team´s disastrous World Cup celebrated Argentina´s defeat to Germany in the final Sunday by dancing and launching fireworks, relieved that their arch-rivals failed to triumph on their soil. In Brasilia and Sao Paulo, fireworks exploded after Mario Goetze scored in extra-time to give the Germans a last-gasp victory at Rio de Janeiro´s Maracana Stadium. At a bar near the stadium, Brazilians chanted "Cry! Cry! Argentina!" in a nod to the song "Don´t cry for me Argentina." Riot police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse a group of rock-throwing vandals who disturbed a rally by Argentines celebrating their team´s gutsy performance in a 1-0 loss to Germany in the World Cup finals. Thousands of Argentines, saddened but proud, had gathered peacefully at the iconic Obelisk in downtown Buenos Aires to applaud their team´s best World Cup performance in 24 years. Police initially remained on the sidelines as fans poured into downtown Buenos Aires. But late Sunday night they began chasing down vandals. The youths, many of them with their faces covered and drinking heavily, responded by hurling

Globaloney: The United Nations´ International Court of Justice got a reality check this week when Chile rejected its jurisdiction over Bolivia´s claim to its northern coastline. It should be a precedent, given how irresponsible regimes are wrongly using the court to seek redress. ´I have made the decision to lodge an appeal against the ICJ´s authority to start with, by presenting preliminary objections on that court´s jurisdiction," Chile´s President Michelle Bachelet announced in a televised address Monday. "This decision is based on ... an unyielding defense of our territorial integrity and national interests. These interests are fully in line with the essential

It’s not often that North Korean-flagged freighters turn up near America’s shores, but when they do, they deserve attention. North Korea has a prolific record of arms smuggling, narcotics dealing, counterfeiting, terrorist ties and missile and nuclear proliferation. So, let’s hope U.S. authorities are keeping a close eye on a North Korean cargo ship called the Mu Du Bong, which late last month called at Cuba, then vanished from the commercial shipping grid for more than a week. This past Thursday, July 10, the Mu Du Bong reappeared at Havana, then began steaming north of Cuba, and as of this

An IRS employee was suspended for 100 days for using his job at the agency’s help line to try to convince callers to vote for President Obama, a government watchdog agency announced Thursday. The employee, whose name wasn’t mentioned in the announcement from the Office of Special Counsel, admitted to using his job for political purposes and agreed to the settlement that involved a 100-day suspension. “OSC’s complaint alleged that, when fielding taxpayers’ questions on an IRS customer service help line, the employee repeatedly urged taxpayers to re-elect President Obama in 2012 by delivering a chant based on the spelling of the

The Chilean government released a report about two high-quality photos it believes could indicate a close encounter. The particular incident under investigation occurred at the remote Collahuasi copper mine in Chile’s Atacama Desert back in April 2013, when four technicians working at the mine witnessed a disc-shaped object approach the area slowly, hover for about an hour over the mine before finally heading off to the east. The Committee for the Studies of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena (known by its Spanish acronym, CEFAA), is responsible for investigating any unexplained aerial phenomena within Chilean air space.

For first time in more than a decade, violent crime in Los Angeles rose during the first six months of the year, according to Los Angeles Police Department statistics. LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said the department was "very concerned" about the increase but also noted that overall crime, which includes property offenses such as burglaries, remains down. Violent crime was up 2.9%, with 8,610 crimes reported in the first six months of the year, compared with 8,371 reported during the first six months of 2013. The increase was driven by a jump in aggravated assaults, which were up 12% compared with

Brazilians cried, cursed their president and covered their faces in shame after their beloved football team´s humiliating 7-1 thrashing by Germany in the World Cup semi-finals Tuesday. President Dilma Rousseff twitted how sad she was with defeat but called on Brazilians “we won´t let ourselves stay down”. After the fifth goal, well before half-time, hundreds of people left their expensive seats at the stadium in the southeastern city of Belo Horizonte. A section of the crowd chanted obscenities against the players and President Dilma Rousseff, who during the cup had mostly enjoyed a reprieve from protests over the record 11 billion
