Emirates airline announced it had cancelled an order for 70 long-haul A350 planes from European manufacturer Airbus. The decision was taken following "on-going discussions with the airline in light of their fleet requirement review", Airbus said on Wednesday. Airbus added that it was still very confident in the A350 programme and said there were almost 750 planes on the order book ready to enter service. "The programme of test flights for the A350 is progressing well and is on schedule for certification (by the Aviation Authorities) in the coming months," said Airbus. However the cancellation of such a big order would seem to be

Canceling an order this large usually has ripple effects all over the transportation industry and its suppliers.

The soon-to-be-functioning Airbus facility in Mobile, AL produces the 320 line. So hopefully this decision will not affect demand for the USA product.

Senate Loss: The Fight Will Continue

As Tea Party challengers grappled with the stunning news that Sen. Thad Cochran had beaten the odds to win his primary against Chris McDaniel, Tennessee candidate for Senate Joe Carr vowed that the fight would continue. “Make no mistake about it: the fight that Chris McDaniel started in Mississippi will continue here in Tennessee,” Carr announced in a statement to supporters late Tuesday night. Carr specifically criticized the Cochran campaign for working to drive out Democrat supporters to win the runoff election. According to the Associated Press, Cochran earned 50.8 percent of the vote, while McDaniel peaked with 49.2 percent.

Rep. James Lankford:

Rep. James Lankford said Wednesday that his victory in the Oklahoma Senate primary race should serve as a clear reminder that local tea party activists are not going to take their marching orders from the national groups that claim the mantle of the grassroots movement. Speaking on Ernest Istook’s radio show, Mr. Lankford said the idea of national tea party groups is an “oxymoron.” “It is a grassroots movement, or it is nothing. It is not a national movement. It is a local movement that bubbles up to the top,” the Republican lawmaker said. “Whenever there is a perception that a ‘national tea party’ group can come tell the grassroots

Vienna - As a team of Iranian negotiators parried with the West last week in increasingly heated negotiations over where the country will be forced to dismantle many of its nuclear facilities, one mysterious figure was conspicuously missing. Mohsen Fakhrizadeh is considered by Western intelligence officials to be the closest thing Iran has to J. Robert Oppenheimer, who guided the Manhattan Project to develop the world’s first nuclear weapon. For more than a decade, he has been identified as the relentless force behind on-again, off-again programs to design a nuclear warhead that could fit atop one of Iran’s long-range

Baghdad - Whether a person is a Shiite or a Sunni Muslim in Iraq can now be, quite literally, a matter of life and death. As the militant group the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, has seized vast territories in western and northern Iraq, there have been frequent accounts of fighters’ capturing groups of people and releasing the Sunnis while the Shiites are singled out for execution. ISIS believes that the Shiites are apostates and must die in order to forge a pure form of Islam. The two main branches of Islam diverge in their beliefs over which is the true inheritor of the mantle of the Prophet Muhammad. The Shiites believe that Islam was

Nasa, the American space agency, is going into the flying saucer business. The saucer will eventually be used for landing large payloads on Mars. Nasa had hoped to launch a test flight earlier this month, but was unable to do so because of poor weather conditions around its Kauai, Hawaii, where the trial was due to take place. The trial will initially entail using a helium balloon to lift the saucer to about 120,000 feet, after which a rocket will be used to take it up into the stratosphere at four times the speed of sound. Then the saucer’s decelerator and parachute will put through its paces. This will be done by freeing the saucer and firing

A Sudanese Christian woman who was sentenced to die for refusing to renounce her faith -- and then released -- has been charged on two criminal counts after trying to leave the African country for the United States, her legal team said Wednesday. Meriam Yehya Ibrahim, who was detained with her American husband, Daniel Wani, and their two children at an airport in Khartoum on Tuesday, is accused of traveling with falsified documents and giving false information, according to her legal team. The family is currently being held in a Khartoum police station and has been refused bail. Ibrahim's legal team told CNN that Daniel Wani is

Washington - In a major statement on privacy rights in the digital age, the Supreme Court on Wednesday unanimously ruled that the police need warrants to search the cellphones of people they arrest. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., writing for the court, said the vast amount of data contained on modern cellphones must be protected from routine inspection. The court heard arguments in April in two cases on the issue, but issued a single decision. The first case, Riley v. California, No. 13-132, arose from the arrest of David L. Riley, who was pulled over in San Diego in 2009 for having an expired auto registration.

Launched a year ago in New York and then extended to 10 other U.S. cities, it allows customers to watch over-the-air TV programs on a smartphone, tablet, or computer for as little as $8 a month. Selections can be viewed live or recorded for later viewing. Shortly after the service was launched, the nation's major broadcast networks filed a lawsuit claiming that Aereo illegally retransmited their programs without paying for them. President Obama is lining up ISIS targets in Iraq and may launch an attack on the militant Islamic militia that is threatening Baghdad even if he does not get an agreement with the Iraqi regime, Secretary of State John Kerry said today. Speaking in Baghdad after meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and other political leaders, Kerry said Obama is "each day" gaining more certainty of the targets he would strike if the United States decided on its own to take military action. "He has reserved the right to himself, as he should, to make a decision at any point in time if he deems it necessary strategically," Kerry said.

With a surprisingly wide margin of victory, Congressman James Lankford won the Oklahoma Republican U.S. Senate primary, defeating former Speaker of the State House of Representatives T.W. Lankford now becomes the prohibitive favorite to replace outgoing Senator Tom Coburn, who is retiring with two years remaining in his current term. This was a very different race from the one taking place in Mississippi. Despite negative ads run against Lankford by conservative groups, the Oklahoma contest was not an example of an “establishment” Republican or RINO versus a Tea Party candidate. In

Thad Cochran’s political resurrection began with a campaign shakeup and ended with a Hail Mary television ad. Just three weeks ago, in the dead of night on June 3, the Mississippi senator’s staff sat shaken and dejected, crestfallen at the results of a primary that deprived the six-term incumbent of an electoral majority. With Cochran forced into a runoff fight against an aggressive and energetic challenger, a dark mood shadowed his backers in Washington and Mississippi.Yet almost immediately, the Cochran coalition began bouncing back. Even on that gloomy night of June 3, Cochran adviser Stuart Stevens was insisting to staffers: “We’re

National conservative groups are angry after incumbent Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran pulled off a victory in the state’s GOP run-off — likely because of his campaign’s outreach to Democratic voters. “It’s disgraceful that self-described GOP leaders like Mitch McConnell, John McCain, the Chamber of Commerce and the NRSC would champion a campaign platform of pork barrel spending and insider deal-making, while recruiting Democrats to show up at the polls,” Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks said after the results came in. Tuesday’s closely-watched run-off came after conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel edged Cochran in votes in the initial election earlier this month.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has had a rough time of it ever since she asserted that both she and her husband were “dead broke” and “struggled” after leaving the White House in 2001. “A few weeks before they left the White House, the Clintons were able to muster a cash down payment of $855,000 and secure a $1.995 million mortgage,” Politifact observed. “This hardly fits the common meaning of ‘dead broke.’” Clinton might have taken the public backlash over this minor gaffe in stride, but she didn’t. Given the bitter nature of the runoff in Mississippi, this probably surprises no one, but it’s also unlikely to produce any further surprises. When the president receives letters like Rebekah´s, he "makes notes in the margins, and sits down to reply personally," the White House said.
