Lindsey Graham’s Tea Party Teflon
Daily Beast, by Patricia Murphy

Original Article

The Tea Party hate machine has gone into overdrive in South Carolina, so how has Lindsey Graham survived so comfortably? Lindsey Graham has been the Tea Party’s Public Enemy #1 since the movement sprang to life in 2009. With a vitriol usually reserved for rapists and traitors, some of the most extreme Palmetto State conservatives have burned Graham in effigy and then flushed him down a toilet; derided him as a “war mongering, cowardly, fiscal liberal whore;” openly questioned the unmarried senator’s sexuality with the label “Miss Lindsey,” and promised Low Country voters a 2014 primary challenge against Graham of epic

Comments:
If Senator Graham would remain unhooked from McCain´s influence, he might be a senator most of us could like.

I´m surprised that so many folks from SC are so Anti-Constitution Anti-American to vote for this man.

The Communist Party USA adopted the word "Liberal" to cover up their true purpose and activities. I just wish Liberals had the guts to admit they are proud to be Communist Traitors. If they weren´t proud, we might regain our Constitutional Republic.

I will not condemn SC voters as being "anti-Constitution", "anti-American" or...surely the poster didn´t mean this...liberal "Communist traitors" for casting a Graham vote. South Carolinians are just as solidly American and patriotic as any of the rest of us. They know how to vote and they know how to make their choices.

As bad as progressives want to make it so, the Tea Party is a movement not an actual party. I can see how that helps the Murphy with the false arguments though, such as the polling comparison.

No, #5, it´s not a party--it´s thousands of small parties and six major ones, all asserting that they are the true, authentic Tea Party. Why did the various Tea Parties in South Carolina feel it necessary to field four different Tea Party candidates? Surely one would have been sufficient--if the Tea Parties are all on the same page, which obviously they´re not.

History is littered with political corpses of invincible politicians who no one thought could be overthrown.

Time is not on Graham´s side. Eventually as Graham continues to abet the destruction of the economy as well as ignore his oath of office, he will either be forced to retire, or be primaried out inevitably.

The reality is the Tea Party Movement is in its infancy, just starting to lay down its roots at the local level. It is quietly growing and learning how to defeat its opponents; those that use their position to enrich themselves and family through the control of taxpayer, use of law and regulation to bribe or threaten companies and groups for favors, and allowing the government to encroach into every citizens lives to keep themselves in power.

Though by doing this the Republican Establishment continuously feeds the Tea Party Movement the mothers milk that nourishes any cause; examples of what it is fighting against and in turn the reasons why the movement must exist.

The only way to defeat the Tea Party Movement is to become what it stands for.

That my friends is the most infuriating truth the Republican Establishment cannot avoid.

Got Tea?

I attended the first rally in my area of Texas many years ago. The group was having a good time, carrying signs, wearing banners and hats, listening to several state and local officeholder speeches, and were unified in purpose: fighting overbearing government and excessive taxes. We called ourselves tea partiers. Since that time, people have moved in on that informal movement, declaring themselves leaders and capitalizing the name. Our little tea party rally became variations of a Tea Party across the nation. Those Tea Parties (and there seem to be hundreds) raise lots of money and spend lots of money, hardly any of it going to fight overbearing government and excessive taxation. Instead, people´s well-meant donations go for salaries, advertising, literature, office rentals, travel, filing lawsuits for officeholder ethics violations and all the other familiar forms of grift. In too many places, a candidate termed "Tea Party" is harmed by the characterization because the name has been tarnished in so many ways. I will never become a Tea Party member. I remain, however, a devout tea partier as represented in that first small rally.

Got money? Then send it to your preferred candidate, not to the "Got Tea" groups.

I´ll attempt to answer in part the matter of apparent multiple TP endorsed candidates diluting overall efforts. First, there are several large, fake TP groups that have been around since the beginning. They raise a lot of money from small donors but give little or none of it to actual candidates. They mainly co-opt real TP efforts. They´re inclined to make ridiculous, incendiary statements both online and in front of the media. One group is completely embedded in the Beltway. This particular group has a PAC run largely by one guy. This guy actually selected the so-called TP candidate in the state of Ohio to run against John Boehner. The candidate of course was a clown. This is out in the open but nothing is done about it. Local TP groups have no money, are just interested citizens.

I spend my winters in SC, and I can tell you that for the past couple of months, the TV and radio waves have been overwhelmed with commercials for LG - it´s almost as though no one is running against him, and if they are, I surely do not know their names. There must be 30 t0 40 ads for LG EVERY day (& night). He surely does (or did) have a big war chest and his name is everywhere, and if name recognition is as important as they say..... It´s gotten so bad that I´m kind of looking to see if the dims are running anyone.

Simple: RINOs like Grahmnesty, Lamar(!), and others survive and seem to have teflon, due to a simple divide and conquer approach from the Establishment.

The counter is to come together into a new party (a new one - the Libertarians should join it, not be it). Come together - and win.

"With the House members on the sidelines, Tea Party groups could have come together to get behind one candidate as a single alternative to Graham in 2014, but that never happened."

Precisely.

I suppose all of the above is free and not one dime of Republican Establishment groups use money for the same reasons. How on earth are they supposed to exist and function if they are not paying for these things? Its almost comical that this is even an argument. I do not doubt some Washington insiders have used the Tea Party name to enrich themselves. Those deserve to be shut down. But to condemn every Tea Party organization for paying for the exact same services any other political organization pays for is idiotic.

Please define what constitutes graft? By what measure is it defined? Is Karl Rove´s salary graft? Are his PAC´s organizational costs graft as well?

You made the accusation. Defend it.

P.S. For the pinhead who thinks "graft" is not spelled correctly, look it up before you make a fool of yourself. Again.

NEW YORK — North Korea is a threat that keeps on threatening. Satellite imagery recently revealed increased activity at the Punggye-ri nuclear site. The government in Pyongyang appears to have completed preliminary steps for a fourth nuclear test. Its ballistic missile program continues to advance. And the man with his finger on the button is the 31-year-old Kim Jong-un, who seems even more erratic than his notorious predecessors. So far, the United States, South Korea, Japan and China — the main countries with a stake in stability on the Korean Peninsula — have responded by adopting a policy of soft containment.

President Obama on Tuesday will announce his intent to make a broad swath of the central Pacific Ocean off-limits to fishing, energy exploration and other activities, according to senior White House officials. The proposal, slated to go into effect later this year after a comment period, could create the world’s largest marine sanctuary and double the area of ocean globally that is fully protected. The announcement — details of which were provided to The Washington Post — is part of a broader push on maritime issues by an administration that has generally favored other environmental priorities. Hardly anyone accepts the IRS’ claim to have lost two years of Lois Lerner’s emails. Those most familiar with government record retention requirements, and the technology used, probably are the most skeptical. The supposedly lost emails cover January 2009 to April 2011, the period when Lerner is suspected of targeting conservative groups with heightened and invasive scrutiny. Those emails also pertain to communications Lerner may have had with agencies other than the Internal Revenue Service. That’s key, because many suspect that the Obama White House knew about, and may have coordinated, the targeting.
