KARACHI, Pakistan — Gunmen in Pakistan attacked a training facility near the Karachi airport on Tuesday, forcing a temporary suspension of flights and triggering a brief shootout with security forces, just days after the brazen Taliban assault on the city´s busy airport shocked the country.Security forces managed to quickly repulse the attack on the complex, which serves as a training academy for airport security forces, officials said. Pakistani television stations showed images of security guards rushing to the scene and frantically taking up positions behind buildings or earthen berms in the neighborhood roughly one a half mile from Karachi´s Jinnah International

It´s that movie "Airplane" again, getting the Talibs all excited when they are out for their evening constitutionals, and they just have to release their anger at the movie by blowing up the airport.

What difference, at this point, does it make?

As it was when the U.S. pulled out of Iraq, President Obama’s vow to bring the war in Afghanistan to a responsible close at year’s end depends on reaching an agreement with the Afghan government to maintain a troop presence in the country. Obama has plans to keep a residual force there for a period of time in order to maintain stability and contain the Taliban, both in Afghanistan and across the border in lawless regions of Pakistan, where jihadis are active. But President Hamid Karzai has refused to sign a deal, and now the election to replace him is

American Apparel moved to fire CEO Dov Charney over allegations related to the 2011 case of Irene Morales, a former employee who accused him of making her his “sex slave,” The Post has learned. The clothing retailer’s board, which said in a public statement earlier this week that it was investigating unspecified “alleged misconduct,” resurrected the case in its surprise move to fire Charney at a Wednesday meeting, sources said.Specifically, the board this week accused Charney of allowing an employee at the Los Angeles clothing chain to post nude photos of Morales on a blog that was purportedly authored by Morales,

I have been listening all week to TV pundits lamenting that Lois Lerner’s hard drive has been destroyed, and therefore her e-mails are lost. This is simply not the case. I never cease to be amazed at the lack of understanding of how the e-mail system works. When you write an e-mail, it goes to your server to be sent to the person you e-mailed. Your server keeps a copy of that e-mail, and of all your e-mails – sent and received. When you create all the folders in your e-mail program that you use to save e-mails in...these are also

Benghazi committee probe looms

The special House committee probing the fatal Benghazi attacks has yet to announce whether former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be subpoenaed to testify, but the investigation nevertheless looms like a storm cloud over her potential 2016 presidential candidacy. Those running the committee are taking their time hiring investigators and staff. A source familiar with the committee told Fox News that public meetings and witness depositions are not expected to start until September. The schedule, it seems, threatens to leak into the unofficial -- and increasingly early -- start of the presidential campaign season. And it could undermine the launch of

Chris Matthews got confrontational with Senator Elizabeth Warren Thursday night over why the Democratic-controlled Senate and President Obama aren’t doing more to create more construction jobs all over the country. Warren said Democrats are fighting for things like that, but Matthews said, “I don’t hear you getting it done.” Warren talked about what the United States should invest more in, like education and scientific research, but all Matthews wanted to know is “what are the Democrats gonna do then?” He wondered why unions aren’t “bitching and moaning” more about getting more construction jobs and said, “The Democrats control the U.S. Senate.

Yes, it is true that there was no al-Qaeda in Iraq when George W. Bush took office. But it is equally true that there was essentially no al-Qaeda in Iraq remaining when Barack Obama took office. Which makes Bush responsible for the terrible costs incurred to defeat the 2003–09 jihadist war engendered by his invasion. We can debate forever whether those costs were worth it, but what is not debatable is Obama’s responsibility for the return of the Islamist insurgency that had been routed by the time he became president.By 2009, al-Qaeda in Iraq had been not just decimated but

What would an effective quick response to the catastrophic civil wars in Iraq and Syria look like? Sometimes in foreign policy, as in sports, it can be useful to visualize the right technique — and then hit the ball.Good policy here begins by understanding that the United States should not take the side of Iraq’s Nouri al-Maliki in his sectarian war against the Sunni insurgents. Sending U.S. fighters or drones to bomb the new extremist strongholds in Mosul and Tikrit would, as retired Gen. David Petraeus argued Wednesday, turn the United States into Maliki’s air force and deepen the Sunni-Shiite chasm.

The White House said the DACA recipients being honored are “success stories.” A spokesman for the

Republicans dropped a hammer on IRS Commissioner John Koskinen during a testy hearing covering the disappearance of emails tied to the agency´s tea party targeting scandal. The emails, covering the period January 2009 to April 2011, belonged to embattled former official Lois Lerner and could shed light on whether an expansive scheme to single out conservative groups for special scrutiny was guided by members of Congress or administration officials outside the IRS. ´The committee requested all of Lois Lerner’s emails over a year ago,´ said House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Noted management expert and Internal Revenue Service Commissioner John Koskinen was apparently called out of retirement — like the Ted Williams of evasive, unapologetic bureaucrats — to destroy what is left of his agency’s credibility. At immediate issue is two years of subpoenaed e-mails from former IRS official Lois Lerner to outside agencies, lost in a convenient computer crash. The possible involvement of other agencies is one focus of a congressional investigation into the heightened IRS scrutiny of conservative nonprofit groups before the 2012 election. In recent congressional testimony, Koskinen admitted that the e-mails

‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T,” the song goes. It is easy enough to spell, but for some vocal critics of President Barack Obama, it seems exceedingly hard to do. As the president moves toward the land of the lame ducks, his political enemies are calling for blood. That’s no shocker at this stage of a presidency. In this case, the cuts go deeper. For some, it is not enough to disagree. Some high-status public figures seem determined to demean, denigrate and ridicule the president of the United States. On June 12 the Speaker of the U.S. House stepped to a podium and insulted Obama for his handling of

There are times that I have senior moments and forget certain names and events but after the recent Obama Iraq war implosion, I´m convinced most political pundits are suffering from them as well. What is unusual is that this revision of history is being committed by conservatives who should know better. Recent commentary by Glenn Beck, George Will and Charles Krauthammer indicate that they have significant memory lapses about why we went to war in Iraq. They now suggest that it was a wrong decision whereas my complaint is that we took too long to invade and oust Saddam Hussein.

Women vote Democrat because they are smarter, Obama said to a White House audience Monday afternoon. He made the remark at the end of a talk at the White House Summit on Working Families. “Somebody asked: ‘Well, it’s well-known that women are more likely to vote for Democrats,’ to which I said, women are smarter,” Obama said. “This is true.” The rest of Obama’s talk centered on paid maternity leave, a minimum wage of $10.10, flexibility in the workplace, and access to childcare. He blamed Congress for moving slowly after he asked it to raise the minimum wage and when

US Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived in Iraq´s capital, Baghdad as Sunni insurgents expand their control of towns across north-western Iraq. In Egypt on Sunday, Mr Kerry warned that Sunni militants Isis´ "ideology of violence and repression is a threat not only to Iraq but to the entire region". On Sunday rebels--spearheaded by Isis militants--captured border crossings to Syria and Jordan. The strategically important airport in the northern Tal Afar has also fallen. The town controls the main road from the Syrian border to Mosul, Iraq´s second biggest city, which was captured by the rebels two weeks ago.

In this case, the bear in question is President Barack Obama, who has lately been comparing his yearnings to escape the White House security bubble to an animal breaking free from his cage.
