Ted Cruz returns
to the Texas Republican
convention a conquering hero

Washington Post, by Karen Tumulty

FORT WORTH — The last time Sen. Ted Cruz showed up at a Texas Republican Party convention, it was as the scrappy insurgent who had come from nowhere to force the establishment’s anointed one into a run-off for a U.S. Senate seat. More than 8,000 Republicans gathered here again Thursday for their three-day biennial meeting. And just two years after he first appeared on their stage, the junior senator from Texas bestrode the world inside the Fort Worth Convention Center as a colossus. The story line of this primary season nationally has largely been one in which the Republican establishment

Not only is Ted Cruz a conquering hero he also sends out newsletters, questionnaires and invitations to coffees.

Sorry, couldn´t resist. I´m still laughing at the comment one of our resident RINOs made extolling the virtues of John Cornyn because he sends her newsletters, questionnaires and invitations to coffees.

Senator Ted Cruz flat owned this event. The buzz is that if you were skeptical of him going into the Convention, you were a dewy-eyed fan after hearing his three speeches. The long long lines snaking around to get a photo, any Cruz product or to hear him speak told the story. There were jokes and compliments from Senators such as Kelly Ayotte who was introduced by Senator Cruz. She told the crowd that nobody in D.C. wants to be the unlucky speaker to follow Ted Cruz!!!

It is amazing how this article called it like it was--I know, because I was there!

There was an earlier hit piece from Time mag that came out today and was quite a different article.

Like the "half empty, half full" old saw... so many elites and their willing accomplices in the media want Cruz to fail.

And then this article from the Washington Compost of all places... It is clear that Time "rag" has already established its point of view and cannot just write about what happened.

Disregarding the perpetual 7th grader on this thread, the other comments are correct. It appears Cruz is building a base. We´ll see what he can do with it nationally.

I already have my ´Ted Cruz President 2016´ bumper sticker. It´s in red, white, and blue, has a big star on the left. The letter along with the bumper sticker said it was in response to my signing up at the Draft Ted Cruz site. I live in Manhattan and don´t have a car but will make good use of the bumper sticker in other ways. Maybe I´ll purchase a bunch and put them all over the city.

President Obama told guests at the White House’s annual Iftar dinner tonight that “further escalation” in the Middle East “benefits no one, least of all the Israeli and the Palestinian people.” Faced with criticism from some Arab and Muslim activists who think he has been too friendly toward the Israeli side, Obama addressed the conflict near the end of his comments, which largely honored “the traditions of one of the world’s great faiths.” “For all of us, whatever our faiths, Ramadan is a reminder of just how much we share. Four out of five illegal immigrants seeking driver’s licenses under a new D.C. law have failed a written knowledge test — a rocky start to a program that in its first two months has issued 268 licenses, according to city officials. The failure rate of 80 percent compares with a 58 percent failure rate for people seeking traditional driver’s licenses, the Department of Motor Vehicles told a D.C. Council committee. In addition, a check of the DMV website this week shows a massive backlog in appointments required to apply for the District’s “limited-purpose license.” The first available date for an

President Obama has described his foreign-policy doctrine as an attempt to hit singles, doubles and the occasional home run. But at this stage of the game, it looks as though he has popped out, grounded into a double play and been hit by a pitch. His attorney general, Eric Holder, said Sunday that the threat of undetectable explosives from Syria is “more frightening than anything” he has experienced in office. And the Wall Street Journal ran a front-page article Monday reporting that “the breadth of global instability now unfolding hasn’t been seen since the late 1970s” and that “U.S. global

ASHKELON, Israel — The roar of sirens echoed across this sun-kissed city Monday afternoon, and in a heartbeat the woman in the pink bikini was out of the pool, shepherding her three young kids to the nearest shelter. Up above, the vapor trail of a rocket fired from Gaza, just 10 miles down the coast, ripped the clear blue sky. And then, a boom: The rocket had been shot down. The kids jumped back in the seaside pool, and their mother returned to her tanning. Through it all, the lifeguard had barely stirred. Such is the dichotomous reality this week

In a stunning rebuke of President Obama’s tepid calls for Israel to show "restraint" in response to daily rocket fire on Israeli civilian targets by Hamas terror redoubts in Gaza, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, long considered Israel’s best friend and strongest defender, all but condemned President Obama by name for what he regards as Washington’s irresolute support for Israel during its time of grave crisis. In perhaps his most strongly worded statement to date, Prime Minister Harper proclaimed that self defense is "not merely an Israeli right" to be exercised only in the abstract, but an "Israeli obligation" that

Ponder for a minute what AFSCME has done. The union has severed ties with the United Negro College Fund because the Koch brothers contributed $25 million to the fund. Or rather, because the fund accepted the contribution. The money will pay for 3,000 scholarships and other needs. To read about this episode, go here. The hatred whipped up against the Koch brothers has become nearly frightening, I think. It is undemocratic, unsettling, intolerant. I’ve never liked it when left-leaning types say, “So-and-so scares me,” or, “This scares me.” There was a bumper sticker in the 2000s that said Bush Scares

Maybe it is time for a shake-up. President Obama’s second-term staffing was always going to be a risk. He abandoned his first term’s team of rivals for a closer-knit team of loyalists. The bet was that he was assured enough in the job to no longer need the in-house challenge — and that smooth-running consensus would compensate for the loss. The bet isn’t paying off. Overseas and at home, the administration seems besieged and befuddled. Obama is in danger of cementing an image of haplessness that would be hard to undo. The administration was surprised when Russian President Vladimir Putin

The dog days of summer are upon us, and with them, an extended slowdown in politics — as Americans spend their time working on their tans rather than studying up on the latest fights in the nation’s capital. Things won’t pick up in earnest again until after Labor Day, when the political campaigning reemerges in full force. As we head into this break, it’s worth pausing to review and figure out exactly what we’ve learned about the American political landscape — as it relates to the 2014 midterm and 2016 presidential elections, the hopes (or lack thereof) for legislative accomplishments,

GAZA CITY — Tens of thousands of panicked residents fled their homes in the northern Gaza Strip on Sunday after the Israeli military dropped leaflets from the sky warning those who stayed behind that they were risking their lives because a large, intense operation was imminent. Residents in Gaza were whipsawed by growing anxiety and frustration. More than 17,000 people poured into makeshift shelters as Israeli commandos entered the coastal enclave early Sunday to knock out a Hamas rocket-launch site. A brief gun battle with Hamas militants ensued and left four Israeli soldiers lightly wounded. The brief incursion by commandos

A Justin Lynch column ("Wartime Press") originally posted at the Weekly Wonk and republished at Time.com with a more foreboding title ("Bloggers, Surveillance and Obama’s Orwellian State") really ends up being an attempted justification by those Lynch quoted for having a close alliance between the government and "journalists" with "professional standards." Border crisis scrambling the

Until now, the politics of immigration have been seen as a no-lose proposition for President Obama and the Democrats. If they could get a comprehensive overhaul passed, they would win. And if Republicans blocked it, the GOP would further alienate crucial Hispanic and moderate voters. But with the current crisis on the Southwest border, where authorities have apprehended tens of thousands of unaccompanied Central American children since October, that calculus may be shifting. Republicans and even some Democrats have accused Obama of being insufficiently engaged in a calamity that many say he should have seen coming.

On April 1, the U.S. economy dropped a whopping 2.9 percent for the first three months of the year (no fooling). The American workforce participation rate fell to a 40-year low. One-third of people aged 18-29 have moved back in with their parents. Millions of Americans this summer will enjoy yet another “staycation”: They just can’t afford to go to the beach or the mountains, even for a week — again. Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff got an ‘F’ after the nation’s soccer team lost to Germany. Where is the red line of impeachment? In theory, a red line might be located somewhere on a list of impeachable offenses – perhaps at the point where a certain number of transgressions is exceeded, or next to a specific instance because of its significance or impact. In reality, though, that red line exists along a spectrum of “political will.” As Andrew McCarthy explained: “You can have a thousand provable impeachable offenses, but before Congress may remove the president from power, there must be strong popular support – a public will that cuts across partisan and ideological lines.”
