Bergdahl Was in Unit
Known for Its Troubles

New York Times, by Richard A. Oppel Jr. & Eric Schmitt

Original Article

Posted By:FlyRight, 6/8/2014 4:03:14 PM

The platoon was, an American military official would assert years later, “raggedy.”On their tiny, remote base, in a restive sector of eastern Afghanistan at an increasingly violent time of the war, they were known to wear bandannas and cutoff T-shirts. Their crude observation post was inadequately secured, a military review later found. Their first platoon leader, and then their first platoon sergeant, were replaced relatively early in the deployment because of problems. But the unit — Second Platoon, Blackfoot Company in the First Battalion, 501st Regiment — might well have remained indistinguishable from scores of other Army platoons

Ah, yes. A trougled unit. "Raggedy" - as though anything in northeastern Afghanistan was tidy.

Well, here´s another worthwhile read from the NYT. The book review of Sebastian Junger´s War, one of the most powerful war stories I´ve ever read. The real deal about a platoon with which he was embedded for a fair amount of time over one year in the Korangal Valley, also known as "The Valley of Death".

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/16/books/review/Filkins-t.html

Even this review will give you a sense of the absurdityof the posted NYT article. A baldfaced attempt to put Bergdahl in a better light and to slyly denigrate his Army comrades who have been critical of his actions. His desertion of duty. His breaking his oath.

War should be required reading. It should also be noted that the U.S. military finally abandoned the Korangal Valley in 2010.

Excuse additional post, but the title of that NYT book review is revealing:

‘Nothing to Do but Kill and Wait’

The ever-bored Bergdahl´s father said he went to Afghanistan to help the people. Peace Corps mentality. But his fellow platoon members said he was bored that they weren´t involved in active combat, i.e., killing.

The NYT cannot go bankrupt fast enough. They are despicable writers so in bed with the Administration it is sickening.

From declaring that Obama "tore up the strategy and imposed a surge" when he had to be dragged kicking and screaming into a surge that was understaffed, to finding the lone member of his unit that would defend him, this newspaper is nothing more than trash and an Obama kissbutt.

I´m so angry, I could scream.

Unbelievable. There are truly no limits on what the NYT will do to cover their guy´s behind. They go beyond simple bias. It´s now mostly lies since the garden variety of slanted reporting isn´t working anymore. Too many scandals now.

You have to wonder at the incompetence in the WH to think a photo op with the bearded father spouting Arabic would be favorable PR. This whole administration is completely out of touch with average Americans. They can´t relate to us at all and they wonder why their propaganda no longer works.

No doubt about it. This "hero" was too good of a soldier to serve with such a raggedy platoon of psychopaths, who eventually drove him crazy and to desertion. Good thing we can always turn to the times for the real story.

So it was the fault of the platoon to make it "too easy" for Bergdahl to walk off!

The it was Obama who would "tear up the military strategy" and order a "major surge"! If I recall correctly he was very reluctant to order a surge and as it was reduced the recommended numbers. Then to negate any advantage numerical superiority the original surge number might have had, much less the reduced he authorized, Obama instituted insane Rules of Engagement(ROE, very reminiscent of Vietnam.

This is a public relations fubar and no amount of circling of the wagons by the likes of the Gray Whore (NYT), slamming the Military is going to protect the man who happens to think the guy in the Dos Equis commercial was imaged after him.

Hey, Grey Whore. Where are the nightly pictures and memorials of all that have been killed or wounded in both Iraq and Afghanistan? You know them, the one that did Serve With Honor and Distinction!

The NYT way of protecting their hero - make things murky, "some said", . . ., "not all agreed" . . , Pleaders removed . . because of problems" . . . it looks like this was prepared/manufactured by dweeb "reporters" in the states and from interviews that were on TV or read in newspapers . . . doubt if any direct interviews were done.

This is simply a variation of the OJ Simpson defense, which was if you happen to be arrested by an arguably racist cop then you are entitled to two free murders. In this case, it´s if you happen to be in a "raggedy" army unit then you entitled to a free desertion. I honestly don´t know why anyone pays attention to the NYT news pages anymore.

Read Rick Moran´s PJMedia children´s border invasion story below.
Now you see why the OBAMA JARED COMMIE CABAL
killed wounded vets, handed over terrorist generals to the enemy, left a Marine to rot in a Tijuana prison, one crime after the other.
It is all being done to distract the open border attack by uncounted thousands of children invaders, all invited by Obama´s cabal, all the way down to invade the Guatemalan border.
All of The Church Invasion is irreversible damage to our country. That´s the true insanity of the Obama Cabal.
And the Cantors, Boehners, Rubios, McLains are are all in on it, as if they were ALL demoRat commies, too.

The NY Times is the perfect example of a corporate journalistic Bergdahl. They left their duty stations and went over to the enemy long ago.

Can´t anyone in charge at the Times read the Constitution of the United States of America except that they can print any lie they choose to without risk. Bergdahl left his guard station, went over to the enemy and that is treason.

The President of the United States supports that position. What does that make him, except a bigger traitor.

The NYT can get access to this report , but, cannot get access to anything negative about The Deserter.
The NYT does not indicate the actual dates of the disciplinary action-just " early in the unit´s deployment ".
Obviously ,by the time Bergdahl deserted, the situation had been rectified.
It´s clear what the scummy and traitorous White House is trying to do.
The security was so lax at the FOB , that Bergdahl was actually captured.
It´s the fault of his lazy , undisciplined ,
raggedy fellow soldiers.
Also noted is that Bergdahl lied to his parents in an email about the trauma of seeing an Afghan child
being run over.
That never happened.
Nice try White House.
Bergdahl is a deserter and no amount of your filthy besmirching our our honorable soldiers will change that.

The Supreme Court led by Chief Justice John G. But they also set the stage for broader rulings, and liberals voiced concern about their long-term impact. Many rely on well-established rights, such as freedom of speech and free exercise of religion, but extend those rights for the first time to corporations, wealthy donors and

As it was when the U.S. pulled out of Iraq, President Obama’s vow to bring the war in Afghanistan to a responsible close at year’s end depends on reaching an agreement with the Afghan government to maintain a troop presence in the country. Obama has plans to keep a residual force there for a period of time in order to maintain stability and contain the Taliban, both in Afghanistan and across the border in lawless regions of Pakistan, where jihadis are active. But President Hamid Karzai has refused to sign a deal, and now the election to replace him is

The U.S. deported Honduran children as young as 1-1/2 years old on Monday in the first flight since President Obama pledged to speed up the process of sending back illegal immigrant minors from Central America. Fleeing violence and poverty, record numbers of children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala have crossed into the United States over the past year, sparking intense debate about how to solve the problem. Monday´s flight from New Mexico to San Pedro Sula, the city with the highest murder rate in the world, returned 17 Honduran women, as well as 12 girls and nine boys, aged

The Obama administration quietly announced on Tuesday that it intends to change the way Americans learn about natural disasters and other major emergencies during radio and TV broadcasts, giving the president the ability to flip a switch and address the entire nation at once. The Emergency Alert System, the latest version of a program first established in 1951, blasts out emergency messages in the event of local weather emergencies, but can also be used to warn Americans about terror attacks and major natural disasters. In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. John McCain, an immigration hawk. Who knew? Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin

Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous. School Shootings: Widely Reported Tragedies Since 2000 - Using firearm trace data from the ATF, as well as FBI homicide records, we determined the types of guns most often recovered from crime scenes and/or used in murders. The numbers are stark: According to the FBI's 2012 Crime in the US data, nearly 70 percent of homicides for which the FBI received weapons data involved the use

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

Attorney General Eric Holder encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country. “As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us.” Holder explained, “We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities.” Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act. “We must take into account not only the

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
