Silicon Valley´s Andreessen
Calls Snowden ´Traitor´

Breitbart California, by Chriss W. Street

Original Article

Posted By:Dreadnought, 6/8/2014 9:46:49 AM

Last week marked the one-year anniversary of former NSA contractor Edward Snowden’s epic revelations of the existence of numerous global surveillance programs run by the National Security Agency (NSA), the Five Eyes (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States) and the cooperation of U.S. tech companies. While the U.S. technology industry now seems desperate to try to reign in spying programs after the retaliatory blowback of losing huge amounts of foreign commercial and government business, top venture capitalist Marc Andreessen is standing alone in calling Edward Snowden a "traitor" for leaking government secrets.

When our government goes rogue, and violates the privacy rights of every American for its own benefit, I want to know, don´t you?
When the President violates, changes, ignores the Laws of the United States of America, I want to know, don´t you?
Or, is it OK when it is done to benefit socialists like you, Mr. Andreessen? Will you feel the same way when the President is Republican and Congress too?

Giving aid and comfort to the enemy is treason.

It seems like there´s a reasonable case that Snowden did this. The Rosenbergs were executed for revealing state secrets to the Russians.

True enough, #4. Which makes me curious why so many people want to focus on Snowden. Where are the accusations of treason for the numerous others who have and are now giving aid and comfort to the enemy? If Snowden is a traitor, he should have to take his place in line.

Whether he is truly a traitor largely depends on his motivation.

The majority of people who turn on their nation or organization do so for financial gain or as a result of a ´honey trap´. There is not much evidence that Snowden is now rich, or hooked up with some beautiful operative. On the other hand, some people turn for thrill or recognition. Historically, that is a small proportion.

It´s a different story if conscience is his motivation. If what he saw was/is a true violation of citizen´s constitutional rights, then perhaps he acted as an American who is loyal to the Constitution and principles of our founding. In such a situation, he had two options - find a path to become a legitimate whistleblower through whatever channels were available, or go public. It would be difficult to envision a situation where he could find a person he could trust within his organization - or someone in Congress, or (God forbid!) someone at DoJ.

Going public was his choice, with the consequence of becoming a traitor - but to what?

I think the overblown security apparatus created in the wake of 9/11 is an extreme danger to the US, but it´s not the only one. There are enemies outside our country that pose a great threat. I don´t which threat is worse. It´s like having to choose between the the Iraqis and the Iranians.

A cottage industry grew up following the revelation that Rosemary Woods, Richard Nixon’s secretary, performed feats of contortionism worthy of Barnum and Bailey in order to “accidentally” erase 18 1/2 minutes of a June 20, 1972, tape that most experts agree contained a conversation between the president and Chief of Staff H.R. Haldeman discussing Watergate. Here is Woods demonstrating her act: Perhaps some day we’ll have a similar photo of how Lois Lerner “accidentally” crashed her computer to erase nearly two years of emails. Every four years, large swaths of the world pause to enjoy the World Cup, a tournament of the 32 best national teams in soccer. Like clockwork, American sports writers and fans mark the occasion with loud commentary about how "stupid" they find the sport. Barrels of ink are spilled and vocal cords strained assuring everyone that our "football" is better than soccer and, more American. Project much? Setting aside whatever Freudian motivations necessitate such screeds, perhaps the question merits consideration. Is our "football" more American? I wish it weren´t true, but, sadly, I´m afraid these writers and fans are probably

President Obama spoke on Iraq earlier today, pledging to do nothing and essentially saying nothing, even as that nation is breaking apart, with Islamic militants overrunning Iraq and vowing to capture Baghdad. In light of the unfolding disaster in Iraq, which is linked to the unfolding disaster in Syria, which is part of a broader failure in the Middle East, which is only one part of an across-the-board failure in foreign policy, which is separate from the failures at home–including healthcare.gov and ObamaCare more broadly, chronically high unemployment, the stimulus and “shovel ready jobs,” a historically weak economic recovery, the

U.S. officials monitoring the fast-shifting landscape of al Qaeda-inspired militancy in the Middle East in recent years have been on the lookout for a single figure who might emerge to match the jihadist charisma and global mystique once held over Sunni Muslim extremists by Osama bin Laden. The name on many lips this week is Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi — the elusive, cutthroat and unconditionally feared leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, which is now wreaking havoc in Iraq. While al-Baghdadi has had a $10 million State Department bounty on his head since 2011, he remained largely

On June 10, President Obama said that the greatest frustration of his presidency was the failure to pass gun control legislation. It was the same day that Mosul, the second-largest city in Iraq, fell to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), a radical splinter of al-Qaeda. The next day, Tikrit was taken by the militants, who are now preparing for the battle of Baghdad. These gains followed months of ISIS conquests in western Syria, lending reality to the previously absurd pretensions of the group’s name. For an American president, the world is a banquet of frustrations. But the

The Iraqi army’s collapse this week marked a stark failure for the U.S. military that trained it and for Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s government, which has struggled to address leadership and morale problems that now threaten the force’s ability to defend the country. Although they far outnumbered the insurgents and had greater firepower, Maliki’s troops have fled by the thousands in the country´s north, allowing the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) to take the city of Mosul and start an ominous march toward Baghdad. Former U.S. military officials who oversaw the building of the Iraqi military placed much

President Obama inherited two wars on taking office, one he called “dumb” to his political benefit and the other he described more urgently as “the war we need to win.” It is the dumb one today that poses the most immediate challenge to his national security priorities and to his foreign policy legacy. Iraq is splintering, and with it both the original neo-conservative belief that a sectarian dictatorship could be made quickly into a stable democracy and Obama’s hands-off approach to the wider region. The Islamist insurgents now seizing cities across Iraq’s battered north grew up in Syria, whose civil

IRBIL, Iraq — Iraq was on the brink of falling apart Thursday as al-Qaeda renegades asserted their authority over Sunni areas in the north, Kurds seized control of the city of Kirkuk and the Shiite-led government appealed for volunteers to help defend its shrinking domain. The discredited Iraqi army scrambled to recover after the humiliating rout of the past three days, dispatching elite troops to confront the militants in the central town of Samarra and claiming that it had recaptured Tikrit, the home town of the late Iraqi strongman Saddam Hussein, whose regime was toppled by U.S. troops sweeping north

FOR YEARS, President Obama has been claiming credit for “ending wars,” when, in fact, he was pulling the United States out of wars that were far from over. BOSTON — Once fearing he would be viewed as "a loser for life" if he failed to win the presidency, Mitt Romney is trying to re-emerge as a force in Republican politics. Romney has quietly sought kingmaker status in the GOP´s fight for the Senate majority this fall and its quest to retake the White House in 2016. The effort at revival is fueling whispers about a third presidential run. But those closest to Romney suggest he´s more interested in shaping party politics by lending his name and record-breaking fundraising machine to what he considers the next generation of electable conservatives.
