On Bergdahl/Taliban swap,
too many bad explanations

Tampa Tribune, by Tom Jackson

Original Article

Posted By:Hazymac, 6/8/2014 9:16:37 AM

At this point, heaping criticism on the swap of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five hardened Taliban military leaders almost feels like piling on. And it would be if the whole fiasco weren’t this evolving, target-rich environment where each dawn presents fresh revelations — indictments, really — that look all the worse because President Obama surely should have known about all of them before he hugged Momma Bergdahl in the Rose Garden. For instance, most everything worth knowing about Bergdahl’s troubles in, and with, the Army (in which he freely enlisted) could have been discovered by typing the lad’s name

Comments:
I have maintained that Obama is in real trouble of being removed from office only if he loses a significant amount of Democrat support. After a series of incredibly bad presidential decisions, the reality of ignominious removal from office might finally be taking shape. There´s stupidity and there´s action that only an enemy would take. If enough citizens believe the latter, Zero will be finished, and Democrats will know that elevating him to the presidency was a horrible mistake that must be undone for health of the Party.

Florida Gov. signs bill

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Some patients in Florida are going to be able to use a strain of low-potency marijuana under a bill signed into law by Gov. Rick Scott. Scott on Monday signed the measure that allows the use of a particular strain for epilepsy and cancer patients. The measure passed with strong support in the Florida legislature after legislators heard stories of children suffering from seizures who could be helped by the strain known as charlotte´s web. Scott, who opposes a constitutional amendment to allow the use of medical marijuana, said in a statement that he does not want

Someone in the Obama administration has let it be known that the US Embassy in Baghdad will henceforth be reinforced by less than 100 Marines. (Snip) It is obvious that 100 men — about two platoons of Marines — is much too small a reinforcement to defend the facility for more than a short period. Moreover, the Zone may soon come under mortar, rocket and other indirect fire if the enemy advances. Unless Maliki can stop the al-Qaeda advance, the Green Zone’s fall is a foregone conclusion. Meanwhile “the Obama administration has decided to hold any military intervention in Iraq

Although men of the left profess a certain admiration for the spontaneous, unspoiled qualities of third world men, there is one iron rule they always observe. Never take them at their word. If for instance they say, “Islam will rule the world,” why, it must be a joke. If a third world regime declares it is acquiring nuclear weapons to conjure the return to earth of the 12th Imam the same rule applies. Believe them in all things, such as for example any complaint or accusation they might have against America, but disbelieve them in any threat they might make against you. Thus when the current leader of the al-Qaeda affiliated group now

Andrew McCarthy lays much of the blame for the disaster in Iraq on George Bush, whose greatest mistake he argues was lacking a clear vision of who the enemy was. Bush refused to see the problem was radical Islam. Instead of focusing on destroying it, Bush futilely tried to reform it. Failing that, he put a faction in power hoping it would ‘evolve’ as time passed. But as McCarthy implies, no evolution was forthcoming and the disaster was compounded by Obama. (Snip) Obama took the alternative strategic route of denying that Islam was a problem in need of reform; rather

Contractors are being flown out Iraq, according to the Washington Post, to remove them from the line of advance of ISIS. The al-Qaeda affiliate is well known for its practice of decapitating captives, a practice which prompted a warning from Ayman Zawahiri. According to the Economist, Zawahiri felt the habit of posting such atrocities on video was giving al-Qaeda a bad name. It contains what is probably a huge intelligence facility. “The

To understand the advance of ISIS in Iraq it may be necessary to go back to Benghazi, because Iraq is connected to Syria and Syria may be connected to events in Libya. (Snip) What makes Benghazi such dynamite is the outre chance that ISIS was somehow armed and supported in the first place by the Obama administration or its allies in a cockamamie scheme to advance the Arab Spring. Ernest Hemingway observed that people went broke gradually at first then all of a sudden. Barack Obama’s career, for so long without visible means of support, has now moved onto the “all of sudden stage” of bankruptcy. (Snip) Superficially Brat’s positions are not that much different from Cantor’s, except that they are less nuanced. But this contest was not decided on policy. It was decided on the question of governance. It was about ‘who decides’. It’s no longer about what ‘what is your position on tax credits’. It’s now about ‘whose side are you on?’ The biggest reason Cantor lost is probably because he’s an incumbent. The natives are restless. They are tired

At any other time, the growing crisis on the Mexican border, with tens of thousands of unaccompanied young people crossing illegally into the United States, might dominate the news. That was more than twice the share that named any other president. The other three presidents of the quarter century all polled about the same: 18% said they most admired President Barack Obama; 17% named George W. Bush; and 16%

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – It´s perhaps appropriate that President Barack Obama is vacationing this weekend in California, where the state flag features a roaming grizzly. The restless president, who has compared himself to a caged animal on recent wanderings by declaring the "bear is loose," took a long Father´s Day weekend away with his wife and older daughter. Anaheim, CA - President Obama, appearing emboldened after his recent move to cut carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants, on Saturday ridiculed members of Congress who deny climate change or plead scientific ignorance as an alibi for avoiding an uncomfortable truth. Speaking in gleefully sarcastic terms to a commencement ceremony at the University of California, Irvine, Mr. Obama likened those who deny climate change to people who would have told John F. Kennedy, at the dawn of the space program, that the moon “was made of cheese.” He saved his most scathing words for lawmakers who say they are not qualified to

Members of Congress called on President Obama Sunday to link up with Arab allies and quell a quick-moving crisis in Iraq, where Islamic militants swept toward Baghdad and left a bloody trail in their wake. Republican lawmakers said the administration has sat on the sidelines for too long as sectarian violence threatens to undo what U.S. troops accomplished during the war in Iraq. The bloodshed spurred by militants from an al Qaeda splinter group could topple the country’s fragile government while civil war rages in neighboring Syria, they said, offering a magnet for extremists from Iran and even western nations.
