Inside DiMaggio & Monroe’s twisted love
New York Post, by Maureen Callahan

Original Article

In the fall of 1954, weeks after Marilyn Monroe filed for divorce, a devastated Joe DiMaggio turned to the one man who understood: Frank Sinatra. Both were American icons, both were of Italian descent and had friends in the mob, and both had been publicly left, in spectacular fashion, by their sex-bomb wives. Sinatra had just hired a private investigator to trail Ava Gardner, his great obsession and soon-to-be ex. Sinatra offered the same services to DiMaggio. He had Monroe’s phone bugged, and when she moved into the Waldorf Astoria on Park Avenue, DiMaggio would wear a fake beard and hold The New

It seems to be a pattern. The more controlling and more violent the jerk, the more often the girl goes back.
Then after years of wishing she was dead, her wish is granted.

It´s interesting that Joe didn´t want Marilyn wearing revealing clothing. This is understandable. A husband generally doesn´t want his wife marketing her body to the masses. In any case, by that time, Marilyn had already decided that she was in the marketing business. It conflicted with her inner yearning for a stable life that eluded her during her childhood and adolescence.

This conflict between belonging to the masses and belonging to her one-and-only was always resolved in favor of the former in each of her 3 marriages - to James Dougherty, then Joe di Maggio and then Arthur Miller.

Most in my generation knew that DiMaggio was a Hall of Fame ballplayer, although his career ended before many of us were born. To us he was better known as Mr. Coffee. It´s disappointing to hear what sort of a fellow he was in private, but excessive possessiveness leads to bad behavior.

It´s a revelation to me that Joltin´ Joe had a life-sized pneumatic sex toy that matched the appearance and the dimensions of his ex-wife. I wish I didn´t know that. Both Jack and Bobby Kennedy used Marilyn like a warm-blooded sex toy, and DiMaggio harbored a bitter hatred toward both of them all the way to his own grave. If he believed that they had had her killed for threatening to go public about the affairs, he never said so out loud. Fame kills.

For those of us who loved Joe and Marilyn, this tabloid piece of negative, always negative, trash only distresses and angers us.

I saw Joe DiMaggio at an Old-Timer´s game many years ago. Of course it was a thrill. My family had a distant non-related connection to Marilyn Monroe during her teenage years, so there are a lot of Marilyn stories bouncing around among us. But "love" her? No.

It´s too bad #6 didn´t enjoy the story. I did.

I enjoyed it too. We knew poor Marilyn was quite ill with numerous mental health issues. However, the revelations of what kind of man DiMaggio was is truly jarring. It should be a continual lesson that no matter how we think we "know" who some of our favorite famous people are, we do not know who they really are at all. Many times the image is an utter lie.

Compared to some of the modern day Soap Operas, Joe and Marilyn´s Love Story is tame and enjoyable to read about.

My favorite Joe & Marilyn story is that shortly after their marriage, she appeared before troops in Korea, and later told Joe "You never heard such cheering!"

She was so self-absorbed, she didn´t seem to know he was famous, too.

The story of the British intelligence agent who rigged an election, installed a king loyal to the British, drew new borders—and gave us today’s ungovernable country. She came into Baghdad after months in one of the world’s most forbidding deserts, a stoic, diminutive 45-year-old English woman with her small band of men. She had been through lawless lands, held at gunpoint by robbers, taken prisoner in a city that no Westerner had seen for 20 years. It was a hundred years ago, a few months before the outbreak of World War I. Baghdad was under a regime loyal to the Ottoman Turks.

The Obama administration Monday abruptly halted plans to shelter some of the children surging across the border at a defunct college in rural Virginia, as the White House has continued to see its efforts to house the children throughout the country be thwarted by opposition from local officials. As many as 500 children were to start arriving this week at St. Paul’s College, a recently closed historically black college in Lawrenceville, Virginia. But the Health and Human Services Department’s plans were stymied, at least temporarily, after town and county officials objected to the short notice and complete lack of community

Getting directions on the road from Google Maps and other smartphone apps is a popular alternative to the expensive navigation aids included in some cars. The apps are also a gray area when it comes to laws banning the use of cellphones or texting while driving. The Transportation Department wants to enter the argument. The department is intensifying its battle against distracted driving by seeking explicit authority from Congress to regulate navigation aids of all types, including apps on smartphones. The measure, included in the Obama administration’s proposed transportation bill, would specify that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has the authority to

While Iraqi jihadists are slaughtering the masses, taking over major cities and engaging in the mass execution of Iraqi military in their march on Baghdad, you have to ask: How much sense does it make for Secretary of State John Kerry to be tweeting to Hollywood celebrities about the environment this past weekend? Or for President Obama to be working on his golf swing? Imagine the “optics” that sends to our foreign enemies. After all, when Islamist terrorists were attacking our U.S. Consulate in Benghazi in 2012 and murdering our people, the Obama administration looked the other way. Then blamed

Hardly anyone accepts the IRS’ claim to have lost two years of Lois Lerner’s emails. Those most familiar with government record retention requirements, and the technology used, probably are the most skeptical. The supposedly lost emails cover January 2009 to April 2011, the period when Lerner is suspected of targeting conservative groups with heightened and invasive scrutiny. Those emails also pertain to communications Lerner may have had with agencies other than the Internal Revenue Service. That’s key, because many suspect that the Obama White House knew about, and may have coordinated, the targeting.
