Why There are More

"I’m not young enough to know everything," Peter Pan’s creator, J.M. Barrie, observed, as if reflecting on the Great Commencement Speaker Flap of 2014. Even so, Jimi Hendrix was young when he reputedly offered advice heeded by too few students today – "knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens." Aware that wisdom comes from asking the right questions, not identifying the wrong answers, Professor Allan Bloom blasted American universities in 1987 for exacerbating youthful indiscretion. In his seminal book, The Closing of the American Mind: How Higher Education Has Failed Democracy and Impoverished the Souls of Today´s Student, Bloom argued that students were

The wisdom of Ben Franklin, quoted in the article:

“If everyone is thinking alike, then no one is thinking.”

jumped out at me.

Universities are supposed to be about exploring, evaluating, and expanding a universe of ideas. If they are not doing their job, then they need to be replaced with stand-alone STEM and other professional colleges.

It is time for our society to stop supporting liberal/statist enclaves that propagandize and indoctrinate to undermine it.

Another way of looking at it, is that we now have a very small adversarial media, Fox News, Rush, Mark Levin, Breitbart, (to name a few) that point out corruption the democrats do. In the past, the corrupt media would only highlight corruption from Republicans and ignore democrats who killed, maimed, molested or raped.

Who are the real ´extremists´

Imagine a Fourth of July tradition like Hollywood´s where each year the Oscars pay homage to fallen stars. Liberty-loving Americans would fete public servants who’ve honored Thomas Jefferson’s rule to "leave no authority existing not responsible to the people." Might celebrating trustworthy public stewards inspire Americans to rediscover our founders’ insights, ingraining a culture that prizes democratic accountability and lawful government, the one that transformed our risky political experiment into history’s freest and most prosperous society? We´d be celebrating two recently passed stalwarts who put country and constitutional order before party: Sen. Howard Baker, the Watergate committee´s ranking Republican who famously

If the CIA wanted to smuggle guns to Syria or interrogate al-Qaeda suspects in Benghazi, that was its business, not necessarily the administration’s. To the degree Obama was involved in overseeing events in Libya, his involvement was most likely limited to a vague warning that, in the latter part of the nip-and-tuck 2012 campaign, there must not be anything resembling a shoot-’em-up Mogadishu, which a beefed-up security presence in Benghazi might have made more likely by evening the odds. Better to keep a low profile amid increasing security threats and hope for the best. And, if the worst happens —

“You can’t handle the truth!” Jack Nicholson shouted at Tom Cruise during the climactic court-martial scene in the movie “A Few Good Men.” Caught in a lie that exposed his “above-the-law” mentality, Nicholson’s character, Col. Nathan Jessup, justifies his lawlessness by declaring, “I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it!” It’s a riveting scene, pitting security against the rule of law. But before agreeing with Jessup that lawfulness conflicts with freedom, think

Shouldn’t college students know as much about American civics as they do about pop culture? Media Research Center TV went to American University last month to find out, discovering few who could name a single U.S. senator or the number of senators from each state. But most knew the Oscar-winning song “Let It Go.” Equally surprising are polls showing only one-quarter of Americans can identify Joe Biden as the vice president or name more than one of the five freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment (religion, speech, press, assembly, petition). Just under a quarter of Americans could name all five family members

Since Teddy Roosevelt counseled, “Speak softly and carry a big stick,” U.S. presidents have mostly followed his advice, cautioning adversaries to resolve conflicts peacefully or suffer consequences. Even President Carter brandished America´s big stick upon learning that bad things happen when you´re not respected, prompting him to reconsider deterrence, given “the Soviets´ ultimate goals.” But today, after unilaterally “resetting” relations with repressive regimes, including Iran andRussia -- whose Ukraine incursion is “the gravest threat to European security and stability since the end of the Cold War,” proclaimed NATO´s chief -- America´s posture is more akin to “speak loudly and carry a toothpick.”

The U.S. deported Honduran children as young as 1-1/2 years old on Monday in the first flight since President Obama pledged to speed up the process of sending back illegal immigrant minors from Central America. Fleeing violence and poverty, record numbers of children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala have crossed into the United States over the past year, sparking intense debate about how to solve the problem. Monday´s flight from New Mexico to San Pedro Sula, the city with the highest murder rate in the world, returned 17 Honduran women, as well as 12 girls and nine boys, aged

The Obama administration quietly announced on Tuesday that it intends to change the way Americans learn about natural disasters and other major emergencies during radio and TV broadcasts, giving the president the ability to flip a switch and address the entire nation at once. The Emergency Alert System, the latest version of a program first established in 1951, blasts out emergency messages in the event of local weather emergencies, but can also be used to warn Americans about terror attacks and major natural disasters. In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous. It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
