The story of Bowe Bergdahl is also the story of six soldiers killed seeking a man who may have intentionally walked into the arms of the Taliban. Brian Williams glossed over the V.A. scandal during his interview of President Obama on Friday´s NBC Nightly News. Williams did devote time to the ongoing controversy surrounding the release of senior Taliban leaders in exchange for Bowe Bergdahl – specifically the White House failing to inform Congress 30 days before the Islamists were let go from Guantanamo Bay, as required by federal law. However, the anchor didn´t mention that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid revealed that he was informed of the trade for Bergdahl on May 27, 2014 – a day before it actually happened. Williams also forwarded the President´s

A number of plainly sensible arguments have already been raised in opposition to President Obama´s exchange of an American military prisoner for assorted Taliban terrorists. Wherever these arguments have centered on the expected creation of additional and possibly new risks to Americans, they have been compelling, even unassailable. Now, however, it should also be pointed out that there are certain vital and sometimes intersecting issues of U.S. law and international law involved in this matter. These specifically jurisprudential issues warrant immediate and informed clarification. First, however, a non-legal reaction. It goes without saying that any reassurances offered by the government

President Obama’s West Point speech proved telling in ways he probably didn’t plan. The commander-in-chief tried to use the commencement address to quell concerns over a foreign policy that has produced nothing but controversy and setbacks since the debacle in Benghazi. But the president scored more misses than hits with the audience, pundits and the press. Even The Washington Post acknowledged that the speech did little more than mow down a field of “straw men.” As far as policy goes, the speech may have been a clarion call for little more than muddling through. But for prospectors of presidential rhetoric,

President Barack Obama capped off the 70th anniversary of D-Day by sitting down for an interview with NBC Nightly News host Brian Williams. While the president did touch on the historic moment, what Williams and everyone else really wanted to know about was the decision to release five Taliban detainees in exchange for U.S. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. “When somebody wears our country’s uniform and they’re in a war theater and they’re captured,” the president said, “we’re gonna do everything we can to bring them home.” Echoing statements he made the day before, Obama said, “We saw an opportunity and we

NEW YORK - Rep. Charles Rangel charged in a debate Friday that his chief opponent in the Democratic primary for New York’s 13th Congressional District is running because he wants to be “the Jackie Robinson of the Dominicans in the Congress.” Rangel said state Sen. Adriano Espaillat should tell voters “just what the heck has he done besides saying he’s a Dominican?” Espaillat responded, “It saddens me that the congressman has to stoop and lower himself to these kind of unfounded attacks.” Rangel, Espaillat and a third candidate for the June 24 primary, Harlem pastor Michael Walrond, debated in the

FORT WORTH — Texas Republicans want to make a difference in the 2016 presidential race. So they changed their party rules Friday to create a process similar to what Texas Democrats have used. It’s known as the “Texas Two-Step,” a two-tiered system that awards delegates through both a popular vote on election night and also through post-election caucuses. Texas Republicans gave the OK to a new rule that calls for 38 of their delegates to the next national convention to be awarded to a presidential candidate — no matter which candidate wins the popular vote — based on a vote taken

Under early fire over his alleged affair with Monica Lewinsky, President Bill Clinton’s aides were urging him to avoid commenting on legal strategy and also to look more presidential, according to newly-disclosed White House documents the Clinton Presidential Library released Friday. In a one-page memo to the president dated Feb. 5, 1998, sent just 10 days after Clinton famously told the nation, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky,” Clinton aide Phil Caplan relayed this advice from White House counsel Chuck Ruff: “He recommends that you refrain from discussing any aspect of your legal strategy.”

It was a tale of two slow-jam-the-news partners last night on NBC. Nightly News host Brian Williams offered some very serious reporting on the video circulating of President Obama pumping iron. On the other hand,Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon offered a more humorous take on the video. Williams simply couldn’t fathom the privacy breach of such a video as the president’s work out regime is now being “critiqued” by millions -- well, probably more like billions. Gasp! Jimmy Fallon, seemingly more in tune with the American public, offered the more humorous – perhaps, more truthful side to the video, “I

Megyn Kelly hosted 6 members of Sgt. In their effort to speak out about Bergdahl’s time in Afghanistan, they have been characterized as “swift boaters” and “psychopaths” by members of Obama’s Administration, who have also added that the platoon did not know what happened the night Bergdahl left. The platoon mates are passionate about finding justice and take affront at the Administration’s repeated claim that

U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl at one point during his captivity converted to Islam, fraternized openly with his captors and declared himself a "mujahid," or warrior for Islam, according to secret documents prepared on the basis of a purported eyewitness account and obtained by Fox News. The reports indicate that Bergdahl´s relations with his Haqqani captors morphed over time, from periods of hostility, where he was treated very much like a hostage, to periods where, as one source told Fox News, "he became much more of an accepted fellow" than is popularly understood. Late in the afternoon of Saturday, May 31, Barack Obama strode confidently to a lectern in the White House Rose Garden flanked by the parents of Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, a soldier who had gone missing from his platoon in the mountains of Afghanistan in June 2009. “This morning I called Bob and Jani Bergdahl and told them that after nearly five years in captivity, their son, Bowe, is coming home,” Obama said. The president thanked service members who “recovered Sergeant Bergdahl and brought him safely out of harm’s way.” Obama also expressed gratitude to the diplomats who had handled the case,

Barack Obama has urged Scotland to reject independence, saying the United Kingdom is better off remaining together. Britain works “pretty well” as a “united” nation, the US President said, in major intervention in the debate over the future of Scotland. The President reiterated his call for Britain to remain in the European Union. The commemoration of D-Day shows Europe depends on Britain for its prosperity, and the UK will lose out if it excluded, the President said. The British people will make the “right decision” in an in-out referendum, he said. Alex Salmond said Scotland wanted its independence like the

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is improving daily at the military hospital in Germany where he is recovering, and psychologists there are helping him “regain control of his emotions,” a Pentagon spokesman said Thursday. Bergdahl’s medical condition was described as “stable and improving daily.” The spokesman, Col. Steve Warren, would not elaborate on the psychologists’ work. Obama administration officials have said that Bergdahl’s health was deteriorating rapidly, forcing them to move quickly in making a deal with the Taliban to secure his release after five years in captivity.

The Obama White House genuinely believed the release of the American soldier who disappeared in 2009 in Afghanistan would provide a triumphant moment for the president and a moment for national unity. Otherwise, there would have been no Rose Garden celebration featuring the president and Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s parents. Some in the White House surely saw the Rose Garden bit as a chance to play rope-a-dope with their political adversaries after weeks of getting beaten up over the Veterans Administration scandal. They might have calculated that a knee-jerk Republican offensive against the deal — Bergdahl in trade for five
