Grammy-winning producer Don Davis, a Detroit native who started as a session guitarist at Motown but became an influential producer, studio owner and business executive, died Thursday after a brief illness. He was 75. Mr. Davis began his music career playing guitar on some of Motown’s earliest sessions, including Barrett Strong’s “Money (That’s What I Want)” for Berry Gordy’s Tamla label in 1960. Mr. Davis often said how much he admired Gordy’s famous “quality control,” watching as he rehearsed his artists endlessly, when he was getting Motown off the ground. “Don was a classy man, such grace and poise,”

The seeds of what blossomed grotesquely in the Rose Garden last weekend — a celebration of the release of five senior Taliban military leaders in exchange for a U.S. sergeant purported to be a deserter — were sown a long time ago: on the second and third days of President Obama’s first term, to be precise. On his second day in office, the president signed an executive order directing that the Guantanamo Bay detention facility be closed. You can watch the cringe-inducing video of the signing ceremony on YouTube, as the president stumbles through a reading of the order to

The chairman of the Democratic National Committee accused Republicans of “grasping at straws” in their criticism of the Bowe Bergdahl case and “nitpicking” over the number of Taliban exchanged for his release. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) accused GOP senators, specifically Susan Collins (R-Maine), of saying “we should leave a member of our armed forces who was in the midst of an armed conflict, regardless of the circumstances that he will likely be tried for and considered innocent until proven guilty later.” “That she would leave a soldier in an armed conflict behind when we had intelligence from everything that I understand

HOUSTON, Texas — Breitbart Texas obtained internal federal government photos depicting the conditions of foreign children warehoused by authorities on U.S. soil on Wednesday night. Thousands of illegal immigrants have overrun U.S. border security and their processing centers in Texas along the U.S./Mexico border. Unaccompanied minors, including young girls under the age of 12, are making the dangerous journey from Central America and Mexico, through cartel-controlled territories, and across the porous border onto U.S. soil. The photos illuminate the conditions of the U.S. Border Patrol’s processing centers, as well as the overwhelming task Border Patrol is facing. Breitbart Texas Border Expert and

One of the most striking elements of the Bowe Bergdahl affair is word that top Army officers were so anxious to keep the matter a secret that they directed Bergdahl´s fellow soldiers to sign a pledge of silence about his 2009 decision to walk away from duty in Afghanistan. "Many of Bergdahl´s fellow troops…signed nondisclosure agreements agreeing to never share any information about Bergdahl´s disappearance and the efforts to recapture him," wrote CNN´s Jake Tapper, who first reported the agreements last Sunday. Now, with Bergdahl back in U.S. hands, many of those former soldiers are ignoring the agreement they signed. They

Among the most tantalizing mysteries surrounding Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s departure from his U.S. military base in 2009 is this: Was he trying to find the Taliban? Or did he simply wander away and get captured? Politicians and members of the military have criticized the Obama administration’s decision to swap five jailed Taliban leaders for Bergdahl, saying the soldier may have deserted. Until now, few details have emerged about the circumstances of Bergdahl’s disappearance from his base. But The Washington Post has reached Afghan villagers who spotted Bergdahl shortly after he slipped away from his base. To them, it’s clear something was

I don’t even know what to say. Via the New York Post (hat tip to NRO), more than half of the members of the New York City Council have served Walmart with a letter demanding that the company stop making millions of dollars in charitable donations to local groups: Twenty-six of the 51 members of the Council charged in the letter that the world’s biggest retailer’s support of local causes is a cynical ploy to enter the market here. “We know how desperate you are to find a foothold in New York City to buy influence and support here,” says

BRUSSELS— President Barack Obama said Thursday he "absolutely makes no apologies" for seeking the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in a prisoner swap with the Taliban, vigorously defending an exchange that has caused a furor in the United States and has dogged the president on his European trip this week. When it comes to getting soldiers back from war, Obama said, "We don´t condition whether we make the effort to get them back." He also said Bergdahl´s health had been deteriorating and "We were deeply concerned about it. "We saw an opportunity and we seized it. And I make no

U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl at one point during his captivity converted to Islam, fraternized openly with his captors and declared himself a "mujahid," or warrior for Islam, according to secret documents prepared on the basis of a purported eyewitness account and obtained by Fox News. The reports indicate that Bergdahl´s relations with his Haqqani captors morphed over time, from periods of hostility, where he was treated very much like a hostage, to periods where, as one source told Fox News, "he became much more of an accepted fellow" than is popularly understood. He even reportedly was allowed to carry a

Obama administration officials told a gathering of all 100 U.S. Senators on Wednesday that they were kept in the dark about Saturday´s prisoner swap because the Taliban warned that they would kill Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl if any information about the plan leaked to the public. But Georgia Sen. Saxby Chambliss, the senior Republican member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, says he and California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, his Democratic counterpart on the committee, were told ´months and months´ in advance when the Obama administration was planning to kill Osama bin Laden. ´It was like they didn´t trust Dianne and me,´ Chambliss said

Late in the afternoon of Saturday, May 31, Barack Obama strode confidently to a lectern in the White House Rose Garden flanked by the parents of Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, a soldier who had gone missing from his platoon in the mountains of Afghanistan in June 2009. “This morning I called Bob and Jani Bergdahl and told them that after nearly five years in captivity, their son, Bowe, is coming home,” Obama said. The president thanked service members who “recovered Sergeant Bergdahl and brought him safely out of harm’s way.” Obama also expressed gratitude to the diplomats who had handled the case,

Barack Obama has urged Scotland to reject independence, saying the United Kingdom is better off remaining together. Britain works “pretty well” as a “united” nation, the US President said, in major intervention in the debate over the future of Scotland. The President reiterated his call for Britain to remain in the European Union. The commemoration of D-Day shows Europe depends on Britain for its prosperity, and the UK will lose out if it excluded, the President said. The British people will make the “right decision” in an in-out referendum, he said. Alex Salmond said Scotland wanted its independence like the

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is improving daily at the military hospital in Germany where he is recovering, and psychologists there are helping him “regain control of his emotions,” a Pentagon spokesman said Thursday. Bergdahl’s medical condition was described as “stable and improving daily.” The spokesman, Col. Steve Warren, would not elaborate on the psychologists’ work. Obama administration officials have said that Bergdahl’s health was deteriorating rapidly, forcing them to move quickly in making a deal with the Taliban to secure his release after five years in captivity.
