Air pollution ´can cause changes in the
brain seen in autism and schizophrenia´

Daily Mail (UK), by Emma Innes

Original Article

Posted By:ruready?, 6/6/2014 2:39:52 PM

Early exposure to air pollution causes harmful changes in the brain seen in autism and schizophrenia, research has shown. The findings in mice follow previous research linking traffic pollution and higher rates of autism in children. As in humans, it was mostly male mice that were affected. Besides suffering physical damage to their brains, they performed poorly in tests of short-term memory, learning ability and impulsivity. In a series of experiments, scientists exposed mice to levels of air pollution typically found in medium-sized cities during the first two weeks after birth. Mice examined 24 hours after their last exposure displayed

I can believe brain damage of a sort, but I don´t know about autism and schizophrenia resulting. That sound a lot like a lump-it-in theory to me.

I went online to answer the question of what pollution. It appears it is ultrafine particulate pollution at 1 ambient levels. The photo in the article was the clue that this wasn´t average medium city pollution. Virtually any particle is hazardous if it falls into the right size range which is small enough to make it into the lungs but too large to make it out.

Las Vegas — I’m writing this column at the Freedomfest Conference, a gathering attended by 2,000 leading movers and shakers of the conservative/libertarian movement. The theme is limiting the power of Big Brother in Washington. The big topic of discussion: Is government so unwieldy and is Congress so broken that the only way to limit government is to change the Constitution? A big faction has concluded: This is our best and maybe only hope. The instigator of the idea is John Aglialoro, a successful businessman who has long been a major funder of free-market causes (he was the financier behind

Louisiana´s 2014 Senate race now has a contract. The question will be who signs on. Echoing a campaign tactic that worked famously for the Republicans in 1994, retired Col. Rob Maness will unveil his "Contract With Louisiana" later today in Houma. Maness acknowledged the Contract With America which helped clarify the Republican message in the 1994 mid-term elections in which the GOP took control of the House of Representatives for the first time in decades was on his mind when crafting his own. "Therefore, be it resolved that the South Dakota Republican Party calls on our U.S. Representatives to initiate impeachment proceedings against the president of the United States," the resolution reads.
