Hinds Sheriff´s Dept. denies

A sheriff´s department spokesman refutes claims by the Chris McDaniel camp that three staffers were let into the courthouse by "uniformed personnel" sometime after it closed late election night. Janis Lane, Scott Brewster, and Rob Chambers were found locked inside the Hinds County Courthouse early Wednesday morning. They allegedly gained access to the courthouse sometime shortly after 2 a.m., and when they realized they were locked in, they called Hinds County Republican Executive Chairman Pete Perry to ask for help. They were let out around 3:45 a.m. Brewster is a former coordinator of presidential candidate Newt Gingrich´s Mississippi operation and

*Geoff Pender and Jimmie Gates contributed to this report.

"The McDaniel campaign issued a statement late Wednesday deflecting the situation as an attack by Perry, who they accuse of being a close Cochran supporter, and stating that the three got in when they were directed to an open door by "uniformed personnel."

I believe the McDaniel campaign until and unless there is absolute proof otherwise.

If McDaniel wins the runoff, plan on the Ds and the media having a field day in the general, regardless of the facts.

This story does not jibe with another posted earlier that said they were let into the courthouse around 11 pm, after votes had been counted and the count finalized, to view results.

Found they were locked in and took 45 minutes to wander around looking for an open exit, then called Perry, who came at 2 am and let them out.

Someone is trying to use this to cause a ruckus and change the outcome.

Correction to #3. I posted Reply from memory - not a good idea - but this is still quite different from the article on this thread:

Local TV station WAPT reported how it apparently happened:

´Hinds County Election Commissioner Connie Cochran said security employees told her that Lane, Rob Chambers and Scott Brewster went to the courthouse about 12:30 a.m. to observe the election process.

The three walked around the building until they found an unlocked door, which locked behind them once they went inside, Cochran said. The trio claimed they walked around the courthouse for about 90 minutes looking for a way to get out and then called Perry, Cochran said.´

According to election officials, the ballots had been counted and stored by 11:30 p.m, an hour before the trio went in to observe the results.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2014/06/05/the-strange-case-of-the-mcdaniel-staffer-locked-in-the-county-courthouse/

Even the WaPo article gave data to show there didn´t seem to be anything fishy here... that the only reason for any interest at all was that this was a widely publicized, very close contest.

Geoff Pender is the Clarion Ledger Political Editor and Jimmie Gates is a Political Reporter as noted at the end of the article.

Surely the political editor would have double checked the information for mistakes before signing on as having contributed to the article.

Lots of curious and interesting things going on in MS. Hope truth and timing helps the voters of MS to make an informed choice.

A self-locking door with no emergency release bar from the inside is a safety violation and could result in fatalities if there was a fire. Unless there was a fire alarm attached to the door that the staffers didn´t want to trip.

Sounds like the courthouse needs a safety audit.

A Brazilian man whose parents were African slaves could be the oldest living person ever documented after receiving a birth cerficate showing he turned 126 last week, it was reported on Tuesday. Jose Aguinelo dos Santos was born on July 7 1888, just two months after slavery was abolished in Brazil - the last country in the world to outlaw the trade. Yet the batchelor, who never married or had children, still walks without a stick, eats four meals a day and has no health problems - despite smoking a packet of cigarettes a day for the last 50 years.

Sunken into the plaid couch of his cinder-block room, John Flentie spends nearly every waking hour obsessed with obtaining his freedom. “I merely want to go home,” he says. At 73, the once-affluent Parkville resident is not a criminal inmate, nor is he an enemy combatant. Instead — to the extreme frustration of Flentie, his lawyer and a cadre of former high school classmates who for two years have been advocating for the release of a friend they insist is as capable and highly intelligent as always — Flentie is a ward of the state of Missouri. Since April 2012, he has been committed to various nursing homes under the guardianship

As expected, the Seattle City Council this afternoon passed the historic $15-an-hour minimum-wage bill that Mayor Murray and the City has spent months hammering out. With all nine Council members in attendance (Councilmember Tom Rasmussen was late), the minimum wage bill was approved unanimously, even earning the endorsement of socialist Kshama Sawant by the time the dust settled. The vote followed the failed introduction of amendments favored by Sawant to quicken implementation of the bill (4-5), remove training wages (4-5), remove the tip credit (1-8), and speed-up the process for requiring big business

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. Where is the red line of impeachment? In theory, a red line might be located somewhere on a list of impeachable offenses – perhaps at the point where a certain number of transgressions is exceeded, or next to a specific instance because of its significance or impact. In reality, though, that red line exists along a spectrum of “political will.” As Andrew McCarthy explained: “You can have a thousand provable impeachable offenses, but before Congress may remove the president from power, there must be strong popular support – a public will that cuts across partisan and ideological lines.”
